REPORT ON TRAINING RACES 20 & 21.
A further week of daily training under their belts and the official basketing list appeared on the SCMDPR web
site on Friday 13th January 2012 for TRAINING RACE 20, which was due to take place on Saturday 14th
January from 82km (approx. 51 miles) and this showed a total of 3,521 pigeons were competing (yet another
record entry for this race) and this figure included 2,989 International, which included 271 from the United
Kingdom and 36 from Ireland, plus 532 pigeons from South Africa. The liberation then took place at 07-40 in
clear, overcast and cool conditions, 19c (66f), with little to no wind and a good race was anticipated by the loft
managers and Zandy Meyer (Race Director).
CONGRATULATIONS on winning 1st OPEN and “FLYING THE FLAG FOR THEIR COUNTRY” went to FRANK
LACANTE from UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with pigeon named PERFECT ALTERNATIVE which was officially
clocked at 08-32-26.26 to record 1726ypm (59mph), 2nd Open went to Robert Marjanovic from Austria, 3rd
Open to Lowe Lofts from United States Of America, 4th Open to D Fleschenberg + B Wolter from Germany, 5th
Open to Johnny May from United Kingdom, 6th Open to Nulle – Wijgaerts Race Team from Netherlands, 7th
Open to Hans and Evert-Jan Eijerkamp from Netherlands, 8th Open to Heinz u Ute Fenten from Germany, 9th
Open to Rick Mee and Tony Hatoum from United States Of America, 10th Open to Easy Company from United
Kingdom, 11th Open to Sauer-Wang Syndicate from Germany, 12th Open to Team Sylt 2000 – Wienekamp from
Germany, 13th Open to Josef Lang from Germany, 14th Open to Paul Poole and Son from Ireland, 15th Open to
Hanna u Horst Flege from Germany, 16th Open to AH Stander from South Africa, 17th Open to Andre Carelsen
from South Africa, 18th Open to The Farriers from United Kingdom, 19th Open to Koopman Racing Team from
Netherlands and then 20th Open to Rising Hope from Germany. These top 20 pigeons were all clocked within
21.13 seconds of the race winner. Then the top 50 pigeons were all clocked within 51.68 seconds of the race
winner and the top 100 pigeons were all clocked within 1 minute 11.13 seconds of the race winner. WHAT A
FANTASTIC INTERNATIONAL RACE RESULT WITH 6 COUNTRIES REPRESENTED IN THE TOP 20. A total of
1,716 pigeons were officially recorded by 08-40, then 2,423 by 08-45, then 3,182 by 08-53, then 3,319 by 0900, then 3,399 by 09-23, then 3,408 by 10-02, then 3,456 by 12-08, then 3,475 by 13-21 and finally 3,482
clocked by 17-31 leaving 39 still to make it back to base camp. A further 29 return early the next morning
leaving just 10 to return to the lofts in Sun City.
CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st UNITED KINGDOM, 5th OPEN and “FLYING THE NATIONAL FLAG” went to
JOHNNY MAY, with pigeon named KIRKNER 1 which was clocked at 08-32-33.86, just 07.40 seconds behind the
race winner. Then 2nd UK, 10th Open to Easy Company with a pigeon bred by Damien Fleming from Todmorden,
3rd UK, 18th Open to The Farriers with pigeon bred by Brian Greenley from Malton which had previously won a
1st and 2nd Open and also won the Cascade Challenge, 4th UK, 25th Open to Manchester Maestros with a pigeon
bred by Crehan & O’Connor from Salford that has now won 38th, 92nd, 169th, 32nd, 7th, 12th, 71st, 67th, 69th,
14th, 176th, 21st, 26th and now 25th Open, plus 3 x US$1,000 Car Race Hot Spot cash prizes and literally
thousands of pounds in Nomination winnings in this race series. This pigeon must come into the running of one of
the greatest pigeon ever to compete in the SCMDPR series and I sure hope it continues in its winning ways and
“FLIES THE FLAG FOR THE UNITED KINGDON”. Then 5th UK, 28th Open to Geordie Boys and with a pigeon bred
by Ian Stafford from Tyne & Wear, 6th UK, 32nd Open another for Manchester Maestros with another pigeon bred
by Crehan & O’Connor from Salford, this pigeon is actually the nestmate to pigeon that won 25th Open in this
race, 7th UK, 47th Open to Steve White from Wilmington, 8th UK, 71st Open to Paul Smith Syndicate,
administered by Paul Smith from Stansted Mountfitchet and with a pigeon bred by Jimmy Richards from Laindon,
9th UK, 88th Open to The Liver Birds with a pigeon bred by J + L. Davison from Liverpool, 10th UK, 104th Open
another for Steve White from Wilmington, 11th UK, 106th Open to David Hinkel from Wimbledon Common, 12th
UK, 112th Open to Syndicate Lofts UK with pigeon bred by Peter Fox from Bangor, this pigeon actually has flown
very well and won 1st UK in the previous race, 13th UK, 120th Open to P and D Clarke from Sevenash with yety
another pigeon that has scored numerous times in this race series, 14th UK, 134th Open to the Stretton Family,
15th UK, 137th Open to Harbro Rowdies and with a pigeon bred by Ken Chapman from Leicester, 16th UK, 159th
Open another for the Geordie Boys and again bred by Ian Stafford from Tyne & Wear, 17th UK, 166th Open to
Guys Lofts with a pigeon bred by Graham Guy from Wolverhampton, 18th UK, 168th Open to N+A Evans and
Cuthbert from Wolviston, who have once again had a great race series winning a brand new motor Car in Car Race
Hot Spot 1, 19th UK, 186th Open another for Paul Smith Syndicate with another pigeon bred by Jimmy Richards
from Laindon and then 20th UK, 230th Open to Myrtle Lofts – Evans + Walker with a pigeon bred by Mark &
Dickie Evans from Whitley Bridge, this partnership won 3rd Open in the Final Race in the 2010/11 Race series.
Another truly fantastic result for the United Kingdom Team and a total of 137 UK pigeons were officially clocked
by 08-40, then 195 by 08-45, then 246 by 08-53, then 252 by 09-00, then 260 by 09-23, then 265 by 11-52, then
267 by 13-21 with no more making it back on the day, making it 4 UK were still missing at nightfall. Another 3
returned early the next morning, leaving just 1 missing.
CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st IRELAND, 14th OPEN and “FLYING THE NATIONAL FLAG” goes to PAUL
POOLE and SON with his pigeon named THE DUB No 1, which was clocked at 08-32-39.84, just 13.38 seconds
behind the race winner, 2nd Ireland, 56th Open to Maurice O’Donnell, 3rd Ireland, 165th Open to Gery Daly –
Beaumont Birds, 4th Ireland, 741st Open to Fays, 5th Ireland, 834th Open another for Fays and then 6th
Ireland, 884th Open to Gerry McCourt who is the Irish Race Team Shipper. A good team result for the Irish
Team who had 20 pigeons officially clocked by 08-40, then 29 by 08-45, then 35 by 08-53 then all 36 clocked by
09-03.
GLOBAL NOMINATION for TRAINING RACE 20 showed a total of 237 pigeons entered and with 790 nominations
and this included 30 United Kingdom and 8 Irish pigeons and flying for a total of US$7,099-20c (approx.
£4,733). The UNITED KINGDOM TEAM members THE FARRIERS took 18th OPEN with pigeon named AIMEE
LEES STAR and bred by BRIAN GREENLEY from MALTON won a cool US$1,496 ( £998) for its effort and then the
MANCHESTER MAESTROS took 25th OPEN with pigeons named PLUTOLOGY and bred by CREHAN & O’CONNOR
from SALFORD and walked off with a cool US$3,281 (approx. £2,188), this pigeon has already picked up a
considerable amount of Nomination money, plus 3 x US$1,000 Car Race Hot Spot cash prizes in previous races
in this race series. MANCHESTER MAESTROS also had PLUTOLOGY nestmate SPANISH IDENTITY taking 32nd
OPEN and winning another US$306 (£204). ONCE AGAIN FANTASTIC TO SEE THE UNION JACK FLYING HIGH ON
THE NOMINATION RESULT SHEET. ANOTHER GREAT UNITED KINGDOM TEAM PERFORMANCE.
The CASCADE CHALLENGE was a new competition introduced two years ago and it has created a great deal of
interest. It is basically a SINGLE PIGEON NOMINATION and any pigeon can be entered for just US$10 (approx.
£6.50p) but the “POT OF GOLD” can only be won if one of these nominated pigeons actually wins 1st OPEN, if
not it is like the National Lottery, it just rolls over to the following nomination race or until somebody finally
wins the jackpot. You do not have to enter the same pigeon in every nomination race, the choice is yours.
CASCADE CHALLENGE for TRAINING RACE 20 showed a total of US$13,500-50-c (approx. £9,000) and had
attracted 184 nominations which included 17 from the United Kingdom and 2 from Ireland. Once again this
cash prize was not won and will now be carried over to TRAINING RACE 22 which will now takes place on
Saturday 21st January from 131km (81 miles). The nearest UNITED KINGDOM pigeon took 18th OPEN for THE
FARRIERS with his consistent pigeon named AIMEE LEES STAR a past Cascade Challenge winner in this race
series and bred by BRIAN GREENLEY from MALTON. The nearest IRELAND pigeon took 56th OPEN for MAURICE
O’DONNELL with his pigeon named PANACKY PEET, yet another pigeon that has flown very well in this race
series. WELL DONE TO THESE TWO FANCIERS.
The SUN CITY OVERALL GRAND AVERAGES after 24 races shows as follows:- 1st to RMC LOFT from UNITED
STATES OF AMERICA with pigeon named DOUBLE DELIGHT which has a combined flying time of 44-01-05.93
and is currently leading this classification by 30 minutes and 14.02 seconds. There are currently 4 different
countries represented in the top 10. The first UNITED KINGDOM pigeon holds onto 2nd OPEN belongs to
BLANEFIELD LOFTS with their very consistent pigeon CAYSIE JO with a combined flying time 44-31-19.95.
It is fantastic to see the UK team doing se well in this category actually have 7 pigeons in the top 45 in this
classification, which really is a remarkable achievement. The first IRISH pigeon holds 289th OPEN and belongs
to PHILIP + MARK SMITH with their pigeon named SILVER WINGS, which is currently leading this classification
by well over 6 hours. WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED.
TRAINING RACE 21 then took place on Wednesday 18th January from 82km (51 miles). A total of 3,535 pigeons
were competing (yet another record entry for this race) and this figure included 3,000 International, which
included 272 from the United Kingdom and 36 from Ireland, plus 535 pigeons from South Africa. The convoy
were liberated at 05.55 in fine and clear conditions, light head wind and with a temperature of 17c (63f) and a
steady race was anticipated by the loft managers and Zandy Meyer (Race Director).
CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st OPEN and “FLYING THE FLAG FOR THEIR COUNTRY” went to CHARLIE,
LES and DJ from SOUTH AFRICA with pigeon named SUPA QUICK, which was clocked at 06-47-06.10 to record
1726ypm (59mph), 2nd Open to Diederiks Racing Team from Belgium, 3rd Open to Ahmed and Nadia from South
Africa, 4th Open to Victory Lofts from Malta, 5th Open to Steve White from United Kingdom, 6th Open to Team
Germany - Groene from Germany, 7th Open to Chris Wouter Jabus from South Africa, 8th Open to Go Go Girls
from Poland, 9th Open to Sauer-Wand Syndicate from Germany, 10th Open to Dudley Brothers from United
Kingdom, 11th Open to Roman Stoppa from Poland, 12th Open to Hanna u Horst Flege, 13th Open to Champion
Fribbo from United Kingdom, 14th Open to Koopman Racing Team from Netherlands, 15th Open to RG Spaans
from Netherlands, 16th Open to Josef Lang from Germany, 17th Open to Pluta Slawomir from Poland, 18th
Open to Zdenek Pavlik Racing Pigeons from Germany, 19th Open to Crammond and Langstaff from United
Kingdom and then 20th Open to Theodor Backs from Germany. These top 20 pigeons were all officially clocked
within 50.70 seconds of the race winner with 6 different countries being represented in this top 10 and the top
6 all going to pigeons from different countries with the top 50 all clocked within 1 minute 05.05 seconds of the
race winner and the top 100 were all clocked within 1 minute 19.65 seconds of the winning pigeon. A total of
3,435 pigeons were officially electronically clocked by 09-11, then 3,453 by 11-57, then 3,464 by 13-19, then
finally 3,484 by 18-43, leaving 51 still to return to the lofts.
CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st UNITED KINGDOM, 5th OPEN and ”FLYING THE NATIONAL FLAG” went to
STEVE WHITE with pigeon named NAVIGATOR 5 bred by STEVE WHITE from WILMINGTON which was clocked at
06-47-47.20, just 41.10 seconds behind the actual race winner, this pigeon has won 75th, 174th, 104th and now
5th Open in this race series. Then 2nd UK, 10th Open to Dudley Brothers, 3rd UK, 13th Open to Champion
Fribbo, with a pigeon bred by Lee Fribbins from Frating who is The Editor of The Racing Pigeon and The
Pictorial. This pigeon named after his wife has already won 41st, 154th, 132nd, 71st, 55th and now 13th Open
in this race series, 4th UK, 19th Open to Crammond and Langstaff from Fontwell, who have had an excellent
race series so far and also had a spectacular racing season in England in 2011, winning a record breaking 1st,
2nd, 3rd & 4th National Flying Club in the same race, 5th UK, 27th Open to Gallows Hill Kid with a pigeon bred
by Dave Murphy from Ripon, 6th UK, 28th Open to Gribbles Choice with the same pigeon bred by Phillip Bond
from Torquay that won 1st Open Car Race Hot Spot 3 and a Brand New Motor Car, Philip also won 1st Open
RPRA One Loft Race and nearly £20,500 (US$31,000) in Prize & Pool Money. It is interesting to note that both
these pigeons were the same way bred, 7th UK, 37th Open to Myrtle Lofts – Evans + Walker with pigeon that has
also been flying well in the race series and is bred by Mark & Dickie Evans from Whitley Bridge, this partnership
came 3rd Open in the 15th SCMDPR, 8th UK, 53rd Open to Mr and Mrs Andy Gregson from Preston, who always
flies a good pigeon in these SCMDPR races, 9th UK, 57th Open to Syndicate Lofts UK, with pigeon bred by Peter
Fox from Bangor, who always flies a good pigeon in this event and who won 6th Open in the Final Race a few
years ago, 10th UK, 63rd Open to The Farriers with a pigeon bred by Brian Greenley from Malton that had
previously won 2nd, 1st, 157th, 21st, 207th, 172nd, 50th, 115th, 197th, 18th and now 63rd Open, it also won
the Cascade Challenge when it won 1st Open, 11th UK, 68th Open to Keeping Up With The Jones with pigeon
bred by Robbie Jones from Coxford who has had a fantastic 2011 racing season back at home, 12th UK, 84th
Open to Johnny May, one of his other pigeons won 1st UK, 5th Open in the previous race, 13th UK,87th Open to
Gray and Fannan from Yourk with a pigeon bred by C. Vasey which has already scored a few times so far in this
race series, 14th UK, 89th Open to Sunnylofts with a pigeon bred by Alistair Hogg from Winchburgh, who
actually came 10th Open in the Final Race a few years ago, 15th UK, 90th Open to Stretton Family, 16th UK,
100th Open to N+A Evans and Cuthbert from Wolviston, who won Car Race Hot Spot 1 and a Brand New Motor
Car in this 2011/12 races series and who came 11th Open in the 15th SCMDPR, 17th UK, 102nd Open to Fin
Jim with pigeon bred by James Finlay from Pudsey, 18th UK, 110th Open to Pet Shop Boys and Girls with a
pigeon bred by John Alderslade from Bridlington, 19th UK, 118th Open to Mark Gilbert from Windsor who has
also had another very successful racing season in England and then 20th UK, 119th Open to Van – Vaizey with
a pigeon bred by Steve Vaizey from Portsmouth. Another really great result for the United Kingdom Team. A
total of 264 UK pigeons were officially clocked by 08-39, then 265 by 10-15, then 268 by 11-57, then finally 269
by 18-43, leaving just 3 to return to the lofts.
CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st IRELAND, 64th OPEN and “FLYING THE NATIONAL FLAG” went to
MAURICE O’DONNELL with his consistent pigeon named PANACKY PEET which was clocked at 06-48-16.60, just
1 minute 10.50 seconds after the race winner, this pigeon has already won 11th, 13th, 1st, 81st, 56th and now
64th Open, 2nd Ireland, 134th Open to Philip + Marl Smith with their pigeon that is currently leading the Irish
Team Averages, 3rd Ireland, 237th Open another for Philip + Mark Smith, 4th Ireland, 272nd Open to Gerry
McCourt who is the Official Irish Race Team Shipper, 5th Ireland, 363rd Open to Gery Daly – Beaumont Birds
and then 6th Ireland, 498th Open to Fays. Another excellent result for the Irish Team. All the 36 Irish pigeons
were officially clocked by 08-39.
The SUN CITY OVERALL GRAND AVERAGES after 25 races shows as follows:- 1st OPEN to RMC LOFT from
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with pigeon named DOUBLE DELIGHT with a combined flying time of 44-55-37.23
and leading this classification by just 30 minutes 12.49 seconds. This great pigeon has won 20th, 70th, 119th,
231st, 25th, 112th, 135th, 73rd, 54th, 2nd, 103rd, 283rd, 6th, 39th and now 343rd Open. There are a total of 4
different countries represented in the top 10. The first UNITED KINGDOM pigeon is currently holds 3rd OPEN
and belongs to BLANEFIELD LOFTS with pigeon named CAYSIE JO and it is leading this classification by a
reasonable amount of time and this pigeon has already won 115th, 55th, 244th, 153rd, 55th, 85th, 83rd, 30th
and 290th. It was interesting to note that quite a few UK pigeons are holding onto positions in the top 100
which is quite an achievement in a race such as this. The first IRISH pigeon belongs to PHILIP + MARK SMITH
with pigeon named SILVER WINGS and is leading this classification by a considerable margin. WELL DONE TO
ALL CONCERNED.
*****THE FOLLOWING RACE PROGRAMME***** Saturday 21st January Training Race 22 from 130km (81 miles)
and then of course “THE FINAL RACE” will then take place on SATURDAY 28th JANUARY 2012 from 550km
(342 miles). Of course the weather conditions will have to be right for all of these races to take place on the
appointed days, if not they will be basketed and liberated on another day when the weather forecast is
favourable and the Race Director’s decision will be final. The object of this great race from day one has always
been to get as many pigeons to “THE FINAL RACE” on 28th JANUARY as possible and give all
fanciers/competitors/entrants a fair chance in the “FINAL RACE”. Only races of 50km (approx. 31 miles) will
count towards the SUN CITY OVERALL ACE PIGEON AVERAGES, which has a total of three cash prizes of
US$10,000 (approx. £6,666), US$5,000 (approx. £3,333) and US$2,500 (approx. £1,666) for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in
this category.

City Million Dollar Pigeon Race, which had been arranged and fixed for Saturday 26th January 2013 will now
take place on SATURDAY 2nd FEBRUARY 2013, as the FCI Pigeon Olympiad in Slovakia has now been arranged
on our original race date. Of course, I will confirm all details when official confirmation is received from Air
Sport Internationale.
The next race will be TRAINING RACE 22 on SATURDAY 21st JANUARY from 130km (81 miles) when it looks

***”PIGEONS FOR SALE”. RESERVE PIGEONS CAN BE PURCHASED BY ANYBODY NOW FOR US$1,000 (£675):If you would like to be part on the Final Race, you can purchase any of these “UN-ACTIVATED PIGEONS” that
are now currently listed on the SCMDPR web site www.scmdpr.com under the heading “AVAILABLE FOR
ENTRY”. All these pigeons have flown the full race programme and many will have scored good positions in
earlier races but the original owners for some reason have not purchased them. Once you purchase any of these
that are still “UN-ACTIVATED” you are then classed as the owner and you get all the Prize Money that the
pigeon/s you purchased wins in the Final Race. Over US$1 Million American Dollars (£667,000) can be won and
there are 300 cash prizes up for grabs. Each year many of these “UN-ACTIVATED” pigeon actually score in the
Final Race as I well know because one I purchased a few years ago actually came 2nd and won a staggering
US$120,000 American Dollars (£80,000 Sterling). Another one also came 2nd for another UK syndicate, plus a
few years ago a Dutch pigeon was offered for sale on the web site, nobody in the world purchased it and yes what
happened, it arrived home 1st and never won a penny, with the pigeon that actually came 2nd walked of with
“THE POT OF GOLD”. Surely if they were good enough to send to start with and they have completed this very
tough race programme of over 6,500 miles of training and 26 races, then they must worth having a gamble on.

scores of emails from fanciers in numerous other countries that currently do not enter this great race. So why
not get in touch with me as soon as possible and see if you can act as a Country Shipper for fanciers in your
country. We are always looking for more entries, especially from countries that have never participated. Since
this race started way back in 1997 around 45/50 different countries have already participated, but we as race
