Class of 1960 --
Prepare for June 2010
February 1, 2009
Planning for our BIG 50th is coming along very well. We are expecting a record crowd turnout
for this – our biggest reunion ever! We are working to build our Class Gift which will be
presented to Notre Dame during our Reunion in 2010. Dick Corbett has made a very generous
matching gift to Notre Dame for our Class of 1960 Scholarship Endowment. Dick will match all
classmate gifts up to $3 million (maximum of $250,000 single gift) for all gifts by from
classmates between December 1, 2008 and June 30, 2010. Details for any multi-year pledges are
not yet finalized but multi-year pledges may be made for to any area you may want to contribute.
All of your gifts between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2010 will be counted for the total Class Gift.
The Class is doing well, but we certainly have our work cut out for us to reach our participation
and dollar goals. We offer our condolences to the family of Wayne A. Sullivan who died
December 18 in Burr Ridge. He is survived by his wife, Marianne, four children and 11
grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Thomas Hospice, 8230 South
Madison St., Burr Ridge, IL 60527. Jerry Murphy reported Robert Dini and Mike Ehrenreich
visited him in November 08. A good tome was had by all. Patrick Reilly reports “that I am
retired after 43 years of law practice in Springfield, Ill. So now it is a bit of volunteer work
helping the homeless and men coming out of our prisons, with golf, tennis, duplicate bridge and
yoga for recreation. Recently at ND, after being dropped off at the bus stop supposedly close to
the stadium from the remote parking lot, I needed directions to the stadium, the vision of it being
completely obscured by all the new structure surrounding it.” A note from our Class Chaplain,
Rev. Rivers Patout: “I continue as Chaplain - Houston International Seafarers Center and am
pastor- St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. At 70, life is getting busier. My parish is constructing a
1.3 million dollar education and community center building. I now serve on our Archdiocesan
Presbyteral Council. The seafarer’s center serving the largest port in America keeps growing.
Seafarers still suffer under homeland security restrictions. I am hoping that our new government
folks will be more respectful to the "strangers" that come to our shores. I serve not only as
chaplain to the class of '60 but also to the Alumni Club of Houston. Last year our new Cardinal
Daniel DiNardo offered the Club mass at our parish of St. Alphonsus.” Nancy and Jim Peters
are retired in Sun Lakes, AZ. Jim retired from the Vice Provost New York Medical College in
1991. They enjoy golf & travel. Reading the November class letter reminds me of how much we
have to be thankful for. Health excellent, we play golf 4-5 times per week. Spend summers at
cabin in PA, about half hour east of State College. Our oldest granddaughter graduated SMC in
2008. Jim ‘89 and wife Jenny are in Peru, IL with four little ones. “I am very active with our
local Praesidium of the Legion of Mary, presently serving as President. Also active in Pro life
activities including weekly rosary at abortion mill. Thanks to you, Joe, and others who hold our
class together. The good Lord willing, we will see you in 2010.” Ed. Due to the word limit on the
article, we will get another class newsletter out soon. JJ.
