Evanston church co-hosts six-week study of the Bible, Qur’ran and Islam Beginning September 27, Dr. Carol Schersten LaHurd, interfaith lecturer and adjunct professor at LSTC, will facilitate the six-week study, “Children of Abraham: Christians Study Islam and the Qur’an,” at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1004 Greenwood, Evanston. Multicultural Center plans Hispanic Heritage Celebration A month-long collaborative celebration with DePaul University and McCormick Seminary starting in mid-September will mark the 40th anniversary of the creation of LSTC’s Hispanic Ministry Program. Interfaith Youth Core offers training sessions at LSTC The nationally renowned leadership training group, Interfaith Youth Core, returns to LSTC for an Interfaith Skill-Building Training Sessions at LSTC. On Friday, October 7, 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m., an Interfaith Youth Core representative will guide students and guests in practical ways to organize and facilitate interfaith activities. CCME presents lecture on Shariah in America On October 9, A Center of Christian-Muslim Engagement for Peace and Justice hosts tthe lecture, “Everyday Shariah: Islamic Law and American Life,” by American Muslim attorney Janaan Hashim. Learn about the background of traditional Islamic code of conduct known as Shariah and current legislation in the U.S. about it. Solemn service of remembrance and repentance Each year, the LSTC community holds a service of remembrance and repentance in observance of the anniversary of Kristallnacht, the pogrom carried out in Nazi Germany November 9 – 10, 1938.
