Boston, one of the United States oldest cities, has a rich history that has immensely
influenced American culture. Two areas that Boston's history has influenced is education and
medicine. Another area which has been greatly affected is athletics. Tom Brady has gone from a
lowly ranked 6th round draft pick to possibly the greatest quarterback in the NFL through his
personal skills, teamwork and astouding coaching.
Tom Brady was born August 3rd, 1977 in San Mateo, California. He was the only son
born to parents Tom Senior and Galynn. He was the youngest child of four with sisters Maureen,
Julie and Nancy. Tom's sisters were all considered athletic, competing in sports themselves.
Tom, however was considered not. He was neither fast nor strong but this did not stop him from
racing kids in his neighborhood, despite losing everytime. Tom was a crazy 49er's fan. He was
fascinated by the game, especially how Joe Montana played ir.
Tom Brady attended the University of Michigan in 1995. Originally he received a
scholarship to play baseball, but decided to play football. He was also recruited by the Montreal
Expos. During his freshmen year of football, the 1995 season, Brady was red-shirted. During
the 1996 and 1997 seasons Tom was the 3rd string quarterback for the team. Although his 1997
season ended early due to an emergency appendectomy. The off season was not vacation time
for Tom. He spent this time studying for the upcoming season. His hardwork payed off in the
1998 season when he was named starting quarterback. However, in his final season of college in
1999 he had to share the starting position with sophomore Drew Henson.
In 2000, Tom Brady was drafted to the New England Patriots as a 6th round, 199th overall
pick. He was drafted as a 4th string quarterback. Brady saw no playing time until November
23rd, 2001 when Drew Bledsoe was injured. Brady continued on in the season, leading the team
to the Superbowl and taking the championship. Tom Brady was starting quarterback from that
point on. He has thrown over 3,500 yards every year except one, (2001). He has also thrown
over 20 touchdowns every year except one, (2001). Brady also has 3,217 passing yards and 20
touchdowns for career playoff totals. Not only has Brady broke records with passing yards and
touchdowns, he has many awards. He is a three time Superbowl champion, a three time ProBowler and a two time Superbowl MVP.
As busy as Tom was on the field, he was just as busy off. Tom Brady began dating
actress Bridget Moynahan in 2004. In 2004, Tom underwentr surgery on his right shoulder. In
2006, Bridget and Brady spilt, however she was pregnant. Tom's first son, John Edward Thomas
Moynahan was born August 22nd, 2007. By this time, Brady had began dating supermodel
Giselse Bundchen. Bundchen and Brady tied the knot February 26, 2009. Brady's second son,
Benjamin Rein Brady, was born December 8th, 2009 with Bundchen. Along with all the fame,
came success. Brady and Bundchen built their $20 million dollar dream home in Brentwood,
California that was 22,000 square feet on 3.75 acres. During the 2010 offseason Brady had
surgery on his right foot to fix a stress fracture.
Not only did Brady receive awards and honors on the field, he received them off as well.
When Brady first began appearing in the tabloids, all the girls went crazy, thinking he was
handsome. All the fathers wanted their daughters to date him. So, it was understandable when
People Magazine named him as one of the 50 most beautiful people. In 2002, Brady was invited
to Gary, Indiana by Donald Trump as a Miss USA judge. In 2004, he was a special guest at the
White House for President George W. Bush's January State of the Union Address. Sports
Illustrated name Tom “Sportsman of the Year” in 2005.
Tom Brady grew up with little to no athletic talent and turned it all around becoming the
greatest quarterback in the NFL. Tom practiced his footwork on the field at home in his
apartment after practices. This strengthened his personal skills. Also, with team support and
encouragement Brady imporved, feeling more and more confident. Another major part of
Brady's rise to the top was his coaching. Bill Belicheck can be seen as a great coach in the NFL,
which definitely worked to Brady's advantage. The more practice he got, the greater he became.
Tom Brady was a struggling 6th round draft pick athlete who with determination and practice
became the greatest quarterback in the NFL. Tom Brady is seen as a hero on and off the field.
