Four Assignments For the Course

If you already have gotten 10/10 on the plagiarism test and have a copy of the resulting plagiarism certificate then you may submit PDF of this plagiarism certificate.

To generate your plagiarism certificate:

1. Go to the URL http://www.indiana.edu/~istd/iutest/plagiarism_test.phtml

2. Get 10/10 on the plagiarism test (don't worry you can take it multiple times)

3. When the plagiarism certificate is generated print out a paper copy of the plagiarism certificate

4. Write in your information on the paper copy of the plagiarism certificate

To submit your plagiarism certificate:

1. Type in the date that you handed in the certificate to me or into my blue tub

Assignment 2: PowerPoint Presentation

Assignment Instructions

As a teacher, you will create and give many presentations. The most common tool to use for these presentations is PowerPoint.

For this exercise you will need to create a PowerPoint presentation on a topic of your choice but something you could use in teaching. You will NOT have to present to the class. Use this an an opportunity to showcase your PowerPoint skills.

Guidelines:

* pick a topic that teaches something

* use an appropriate number of slides

* use graphics, charts, and/or pictures

* use multiple layouts in the presentation

* a background or design template applied

* make sure your text is readable (e.g. dark grey tiny text on a black background is not readable)

Submission:

1. Upload your PowerPoint presentation into your folder under "My Workspace" >

"Resources" > "W201". Make sure that the name of the PowerPoint file only contains letters and numbers (no spaces or special characters).

2. Paste the URL into the textbox below and submit the assignment

Assignment 3: Beta Professional Web Site

Scenario:

As a teacher, you will need to use many web resources. More and more schools are requiring that you have your own class web page so that students and parents may know what is going on for assignments. Even more important to you right now, is that in order for you to get a job as a teacher you will need to demonstrate that you know how to make a web site. This project will get you started along the path of creating your own professional web site.

For this exercise you will need to create a professional web site with information about yourself. Key elements that employers are looking for is evidence that you a competent teacher and that your philosophy of teaching matches those of the school administrators and other teachers within that school. A professional web site and portfolio are the tools you will be creating during your tenure here in the Teacher Education Program.

Specifications:

Use a HTML editing tool (e.g. Dreamweaver) to create a web site that contains the following three web pages

"index.html" should include

* Your name

* A professional picture of yourself (make sure the picture file is located in the same directory as your "index.htm" file and that it contains no special characters)

* A link to an external website that is related to teaching

* A navigation area that has links to your "experience.html" and "philosophy.html" pages

"experience.html" should include

* A listing of jobs or volunteer positions that you have held

* Links to examples of your work including but not limited to your PowerPoint presentation from assignment 2

* A navigation area that has links to your "index.html" and "philosophy.html" pages

"philosophy.html" should include

* Include a brief overview of your teaching philosophy and why you want to be a teacher

* A navigation area that has links to your "experience.html" and "index.html" pages

Submission:

1. Create a folder in "My Workspace" > "Resources" > "W201" called "Beta"

2. Upload all your files to your "My Workspace" > "Resources" > "W201" > "Beta" folder

3. Click on the "Revise" link beside your "index.htm" file in Oncourse and copy the

URL

4. Paste the URL you copied into the textbox below and submit the assignment

Note: Ensure that your URL is correct. Since my username is "afbarret" my URL for this assignment would be...

"https://oncourse.iu.edu/access/content/user/afbarret/W201/index.htm"

If your URL starts with "C:" or contains a long sequence of numbers and letters then something is wrong.

Assignment 4: Gold Professional Web Site

Assignment Instructions

This assignment cannot be started until you have received feedback from your assignment 3.

This assignment requires that you implement a "gold" version of your professional website based on the feedback that I provided on your "beta" site and feedback that you get from a peer.

Note: Gold means that everything works including pictures and links.

Instructions:

1. Make the required changes to your website based on the feedback that I provided in assignment 3

2. Replace the files in your "Beta" folder with the updated files

3. Test your beta site to make sure there are no spelling mistakes, broken images, or broken links

4. Have a peer

* Confirm that all links and pictures work

* Confirm that there are no spelling mistakes

* Identify at least three things that you did well on your site

* Identify at least three things that you should improve on your site

5. Make at least one change to your site based on the feedback from your peer

6. Replace the files in your "Beta" folder with the updated files

7. Test your beta site to make sure there are no spelling mistakes, broken images, or broken links

8. Create a folder in "My Workspace" > "W201" called "Gold"

9. Copy all the files in your "Beta" folder to the "Gold" folder

10. Test your gold site to make sure there are no spelling mistakes, broken images, or broken links

11. Get the URL to your gold site's index.html page and paste it below

12. Explain what changes you made to your site based on the peer feedback
