MILITARY TIME In a laboratory setting, military time is commonly used to document time. The following chart shows you regular time and what the military time conversion is. When reading military time, there are some rules to follow: The first 2 digits refer to hours The second 2 digits refer to minutes If you need to report a time with seconds (as with timed tests), you will add the seconds at the end of the military time following a colon. Some professionals prefer to write or say hours after the time. Example – 2:15am and 28 seconds is documented as – 0215:28 hours. Verbally it would be stated as zero (or O) two hundred fifteen hours and twenty-eight seconds.
