Birthday-Female-Age 18-Hope is the thing with feathers.one
Poem by Emily Dickinson: “Hope is the thing with feathers. That perches in the soul. And sings the tune
without the words. And never stops at all, . . .” From RR: “As you embark upon your voyage into
adulthood, never lose sight of your goals.”
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I’ve heard it in the chillest land
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.
—Emily Dickinson (1830–86)
As you embark upon your voyage into adulthood, never lose sight of your goals. Keep them firmly in
mind, and always strive to reach them.

Birthday-Female-Age 26-Silly little ditty.one
Here’s a silly little ditty that I think is sort of pretty . . .
Here’s a silly little ditty
That I think is sort of pretty!
This morning as the sun arose
A little bird stretched out his toes.
He winged his message far and wide:
“Happy Birthday!” he loudly cried.
I heard him shout as I awoke.
I saw him there, and to me he spoke—
Very quietly, to sleepy old me:
“It’s «Salutation»’s birthday, you see!”
So I leaped out of bed and picked up the phone
And I dialed your number, but no one was home.
That’s why I’ve sent you this piece of mail
With a wish that I hope is not too stale:
“Happy Birthday, «Salutation»!”
Have a great day! I hope that you have a fabulous birthday!

Birthday-Female-Age 31-Recommended birthday investments.one
Graphics of noisemakers, confetti, fireworks, and birthday cake. Recommended investments for your
birthday.
The following are recommended investments for your birthday.
[Graphic of noisemakers and confetti at left]
I encourage buying and holding some noisemakers, to
annoy your co-workers and neighbors. You may
wish to diversify with silly party hats, so as to also
annoy your guests.
Purchase several thousand pieces of confetti and a few
dozen balloons. You should definitely diversify as to
shape and color of both investment types.
[Graphic of balloons and confetti at right]
[Graphic of fireworks at left]
If legal in your jurisdiction, fireworks add “bang”!
The downside is increased risk of interaction with
government watchdogs, such as the fire department.
By federal law, all birthday portfolios include birthday
cake. Decorate with candles—depending on your
tolerance for risk, use up to your age in years!

Birthday-Female-Age 34-I wanted to make this cake.one
Humorous. Couldn’t make glorious cake because of kitchen accident. “P.S. All right, if you must
know:” “P.P.S. JUST KIDDING!”
For your birthday, I wanted to personally bake you a delicious birthday cake in your favorite flavor. My
grandmother gave my mother a terrific recipe that she passed on to me. This cake is the ultimate—moist,
full-flavored, great frosting. It’s always been my favorite, too.
Well, as I was saying, I wanted to make this scrumptious cake for your birthday. Unfortunately, I had a
bit of an accident in the kitchen . . . just one of those run-of-the mill, everyday, garden-variety kitchen
accidents.
So as an alternative, I’ll simply wish you a very happy birthday! I hope you have a good celebration.
P.S. All right, if you must know: While I was licking the beaters on my mixer, my thumb accidentally hit
the ON button and . . . well, anyway, I’m okay now!
P.P.S. JUST KIDDING! But not about this: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, «SALUTATION»!

Birthday-Female-Age 38-Rum cake recipe.one
Birthday rum cake recipe. Humorous.
Let me begin by wishing you a very Happy Birthday.
Please find on the enclosure a very special birthday cake recipe that has been handed down in my family
for generations. According to the family legends, my great-great-great-great grandmother, Brunhilda,
who was never very stable, created it.
I hope you enjoy it! [Page break]
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUM CAKE
1 cup sugar
2 liters of rum
1 cup dried fruit
2 cups brown sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup of butter
2 large eggs
1 tsp. baking powder
lemon juice
2 cups walnuts
Before starting, sample rum to check the quality. Good, isn’t it?
Now proceed.
Select large mixing bowl, measuring cup, etc. Check rum again. It must be just right. To be sure rum is
of proper quality, pour one level cup of rum into a glass and drink it as fast as you can.
Repeat.
With an electric mixer, beat one cup of butter in a large and fluffy bowl. Add one seaspoon of thugar and
beat again. Meanwhile, make sure rum is still all right. Try another cup. Open second liter if necessary.
Add eggs, 2 cups fried druit and heat until high. If druit gets stuck in the beaters, pry loose with a
drewscriber.
Sample rum again, checking for tonscisticity. Next, sift 3 cups of pepper or salt, (really doesn’t matter).
Sample rum again. Sift ½ pint of lemon juice. Fold in chopped butter and strained nuts. Add 1
babblespoon of brown thugar or whatever color you can find.
Wix mell.
Grease oven. Turn cake pan 350 degrees. Pour mess into boven and ake.
Check rum again and go to bed.

Birthday-Female-Age 40-Another milestone. one
Birthday #40 is often referred to as “hitting another milestone.”
Birthday #40 is often referred to as “hitting another milestone.” Knowing today was a milestone for you,
but wanting to be more certain what “milestone” meant, I decided to look it up in my Merriam-Webster
Dictionary and here’s what I found:
Main Entry: mile·stone
Pronunciation:
Function: noun
Date: circa 1746
1 : a stone serving as a milepost
2 : a significant point in development
I really like that second definition. What a wonderful place to be—at a “significant point in
development.” I truly hope this birthday develops into a significant celebration! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

classics and heed their words when applicable, or otherwise just enjoy them. So here are some inspiring
words from a classic writer to wish you a very happy birthday!
Yet Hope again elastic springs,
Unconquered, though she fell,
Still buoyant are her golden wings,
Still strong to bear us well.
—Charlotte Bronte
I hope you have a wonderful birthday!

Birthday-Female-Age 43-Life has a way of surprising us.one
“May your birthday and the year ahead be filled with those special surprises...”
Sometimes life has a way of surprising us with a new opportunity, an especially rewarding day, or the
realization of a dream.
May your birthday and the year ahead be filled with those special surprises that show you again and again
just how good life can be.
Have a Happy Birthday, «Salutation»!!

Birthday-Female-Age 44-What is one wish worth.one
If a picture is worth a thousand words, what is one wish worth?
If a picture is worth a thousand words, what on earth is one wish worth? More than a penny for one’s
thoughts (at least I should hope). So what is one wish worth? I think that there is no price tag high
enough, no amount of money large enough, when you send a wish across the air from one person to
another.
So here is my wish to you.
Enjoy your birthday! May it be the best one to date!

Birthday-Female-Age 51-Glad our paths crossed.one
I am glad that our paths happened to cross over.
When you were a young girl and you dreamed of what your life would be like, did you ever imagine the
people you would meet, or the lives that you would touch?
And when you were a teenager, did you ever imagine you would make it this far?
Funny how life tends to change you as much as you change during your life. The friends you have made,
the friends you have yet to find, the people you have left behind, and the ones still on the path to where
you are going.
I, for one, am glad that our paths happened to cross. I hope that you have a wonderful birthday. And in
the years that follow, may more of your dreams come true and may life go just according to plan!

Birthday-Female-Age 52-Hope.one
Quote from Vaclav Havel. Here is hoping you have a great birthday and a prosperous year!
Hope is a state of mind, not of the world.
Hope, in this deep and powerful sense,
is not the same as joy that things are going well,
or willingness to invest in enterprises that are obviously heading for success
but rather an ability to work for something because it is good.
—Vaclav Havel (1936–)

Birthday Letters
“I want to share with you a poem that has been shared by many people for many years:”
In honor of your birthday, I want to share with you a poem that has been shared by many people for
many years:
Wouldn’t this old world be better if the folks we meet would say,
“I know something good about you!” And then treat us just that way?
Wouldn’t it be fine and dandy if each handclasp warm and true
Carried with it this assurance, “I know something good about you!”
Wouldn’t life be lots more happy, if the good that’s in us all
Were the only thing about us that folks bothered to recall?
Wouldn’t life be lots more happy, if we praised the good we see?
For there’s such a lot of goodness in the worst of you and me.
Wouldn’t it be nice to practice that fine way of thinking, too?
You know something good about me! I know something good about you!

Birthday-Female-Age 93-What A Hug Can Do.one
I hope your birthday is full of lots of hugs.
[Fancy font throughout:]
It’s wondrous what a hug can do.
A hug can cheer you when you’re blue.
A hug can say “I love you so”
or “Gee! I hate to see you go.”
A hug is “Welcome back again!”
and “Great to see you! Where’ve you been?”
A hug can soothe a small child’s pain
and bring a rainbow after rain.
The hug! There’s just no doubt about it—
we scarcely could survive without it.
A hug delights and warms and charms;
it must be why we all have arms!
Hugs are great for fathers and mothers,
sweet for sisters, swell for brothers,
and chances are some favorite aunts
love them more than potted plants.
Kittens crave them. Puppies love them.
Heads of state are not above them.
A hug can break the language barrier
and make the dullest day seem merrier.
No need to fret about your store of ’em;
the more you give, the more there are of ’em.
So stretch those arms without delay
and give someone a hug today!

Sunsets to warm your heart.
Gentle hugs when spirits sag.

Birthday-Female-Age 95-One Song Can Spark A Moment.one
You deserve the best. I hope your birthday is a special one.
We Only Need One
One song can spark a moment, one flower can wake the dream.
One tree can start a forest, one bird can herald spring.
One smile begins a friendship, one handclasp lifts a soul.
One star can guide a ship at sea, one word can frame the goal.
One vote can change a nation, one sunbeam lights a room.
One candle wipes out darkness, one laugh will conquer gloom.
One step must start each journey, one word must start each prayer.
One hope will raise our spirits, one touch can show you care.
One voice can speak with wisdom, one heart can know it’s true.
One life can make the difference, you see it’s up to YOU.

Birthday-Female-Age 97-Two Ways to Live Your Life.one
There are two ways to live your life... as if nothing is a miracle, and as if everything is. I like to live as if

Albert Einstein once said:

As if everything is.
I prefer Einstein’s second choice. On your birthday, «Salutation», please appreciate life as a great
miracle. Enjoy your day!

Birthday-Female-Age 98-Smell the roses.one
My birthday wish for you is that you take time to stop and smell the roses.
So often in our lives we take for granted the little things that make life worth living. So here is a little
story as a reminder.
As the sun comes up over the horizon, the first of its rays light the dew in the garden. The
flowers of one rosebush glisten fresh and full, their red as radiant and vivid as any ever seen.
This bush has lived in this particular garden for more years than anyone can remember, through
summer barbecues and weekly weedings. This bush has watched young sweethearts declare
their love, and heard children cry who didn’t know how to handle a rose. [Colored graphic of
red rose at right]
Its flowers are beautiful to behold. Their petals are as soft as cotton. The exhilarating fragrance
can overtake a person with delight.
My wish for you is that you take the time to stop and smell—and see and feel!—all the roses in your life
on your birthday.

Birthday-Male-Age 15-Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.ONE
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar achieved his goals. Consider how you might achieve yours.
I bet you’ve heard of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar? Just to refresh your memory—and mine!—he was AllAmerican three times at Power Memorial High and on the honor roll. His team’s record those years was
95–6. From 1967–69, he won three national championships with UCLA. He played for the Milwaukee
Bucks until 1975 and then the L.A. Lakers (on parquet floors!) until he retired in 1989.
That man did things on the basketball court that nobody had done before, and that a lot of players after
him imitated and perfected. He made it his goal to be the best player he could be. And he achieved it.
I can’t be sure what your ambitions are in life . . . and there aren’t all that many openings in pro sports
. . . but whatever your goals are, your birthday’s probably a good time to consider how you’re going to
reach them.
However, don’t think so hard about your future life that you forget to

Birthday-Age 33-All sorts of cavorting.one
Light verse asserting that “Ever on one’s birthday, a person must cavort!” Prose: “May your birthday be
filled with all sorts of cavorting!”
High on a mountaintop, very far away,
I went to see a wiseman to hear what he would say.
Simple were his words and surprisingly short:
“Ever on one’s birthday, a person must cavort!”
All the journey home, his words rang in my head,
And I knew his wisdom deserved to be spread.
I’d find myself a platform to stand on and exhort,
“On any given birthday, go out and cavort!”
When the car is full of oil and when it’s down a quart,
Playing tennis in the backyard or on famous Center Court,
Checking out the latest fad (and trying not to snort!),
Rafting down a river, at a swanky beach resort,
Examining the ruins of some abandoned fort,
Listening to the evening news and drafting a retort,
Singing in the bathtub or jazzing at Newport—
No matter where we find ourselves, we ought to cavort!
Birthdays are to celebrate, to sing and eat and sport.
So always on your birthday, you really must cavort!
May your birthday be filled with all sorts of cavorting! Have a great day!

Birthday-Male-Age 40-Benefits and responsibilities.one
I heard of your recent/pending admittance into the Big Four-Oh Club. What a feat! With the acceptance
into this club come several benefits and responsibilities.
I heard of your pending admittance into the Big Four-Oh Club.
What a feat! Congratulations.
You should be aware that with acceptance into this exclusive club come several benefits and responsibilities.
First, the responsibilities:
1. Make sure you take the time to appreciate the simple things in life, things like family picnics
and fishing. Try not to let the duties of life get in the way of the enjoyment of it.
2. Over the 40 years of your life so far, the world has seen a lot of good things, and a lot of bad
things. Use your experience to decide what kind of world you want to leave for human
posterity. Please try to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative. Try to create a
world that’s a little bit better than it would have been without you.
3. Develop and/or maintain a sense of humor. Life can be difficult enough without making it
more so by focusing on the bad stuff. Point out to yourself at least one humorous thing every
day. You’ll be better off for it.
Now, the benefits:
1. You don’t have to listen carefully anymore, to anyone. People expect your hearing to decline
when you hit 40; they’ll be patient. Go ahead, ask them to repeat themselves. It’s OK!
2. You can laugh frankly at the fashion and the music of younger generations. You may have
been “hip” once, but face it, you’re old now. Kids these days are going to think you’re an old
fogey whether or not you say what you think, so you might as well get it out in the open.
3. You get one totally free consultation with me! For instance, I can advise you on the
suitability of various best red convertible sports cars for YOUR midlife crisis. After all, every
investor’s situation is different. With individual attention, and the help of an expert, you can
make the decision that best fits YOUR particular needs.
In all seriousness, «Salutation», I just wanted to take the opportunity to write you a letter on the occasion
of your 40th birthday, and to wish you all the best on this day and throughout the year.

Quote from Kalidasa, Hindu poet and playwright: “Look to this day for it is life, . . . For yesterday is

Have a great 50th birthday!—and many more to come!
Look to this day for it is life,
the very life of life.
In its brief course
lie all the realities and verities of existence,
the bliss of growth,
the splendor of action
the glory of power.
For yesterday is already a dream
and tomorrow is only a vision,
but today, well lived,
makes every yesterday a dream of happiness
and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!
Such is the salutation of this dawn.

Convair B-58 Hustler in flight
Hunting around the Internet for something interesting to share with you about “58”—and not really
expecting to find much—I was delighted to discover the Convair B-58 Hustler!
The Hustler was the first supersonic jet bomber. In October 1959, one of the first few B-58s off the
assembly line exceeded Mach 2 (twice the speed of sound) for more than an hour. In March 1962, a B58 flew round-trip, non-stop, from Los Angeles to New York in 4 hours 16 minutes—2:00:56.8 going
east, and a leisurely 2¼ hours heading back to LA. In October 1963, a different crew took 8:35:20.4 to
fly a Hustler 8,028 miles from Okinawa to London via Alaska, setting a world speed record: 938 mph.
Really makes you proud to become a 58 yourself, doesn’t it?
Okay, so maybe it doesn’t! Particularly since in March 1990, an SR-71 Blackbird flew from LA to
Washington in just under an hour and 8 minutes, slightly over half the time of the Hustler’s recordbreaking flight in 1962 . . . Anyway,
Have a very happy 58th birthday—
and don’t lose your hustle!

Poem by Thomas Gray It’s your birthday! In celebration of this “special” day, I’d like to share a poem.
In celebration of your birthday, I’d like to share a bit of nostalgic poetry that an Englishman wrote about
his boyhood school.
Ah, happy hills, ah, pleasing shade,
Ah, fields beloved in vain,
Where once my careless childhood stray’d,
A stranger yet to pain!
I feel the gales, that from ye blow,
A momentary bliss bestow,
As waving fresh their gladsome wing,
My weary soul they seem to soothe,
And, redolent of joy and youth,
To breathe a second spring.
—Thomas Gray (1716-71)
I hope your special day is filled with many touches of momentary bliss, and often breathes a second

Birthday-Male-Age 79-Brightest yet.one
Quote from Helen Keller Throughout life, birthdays should always be bright spots.
The marvelous richness of the human experience
would lose something of rewarding joy
if there were no limitations to overcome.
The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful
if there were no dark valleys to traverse.
—Helen Keller (1880–1968)
Throughout life, birthdays should always be bright spots. Here’s hoping your 79 th birthday is the
brightest yet.
Happy Birthday!!!

Gee, time flies when you’re having fun! I’ll bet it seems like just yesterday that you were graduating
from school, kissing your first love, or driving your first car.
Memories add up and run together for all of us.
I hope the upcoming years will give you as much fun and memories as the past eighty have.
I wish you a wonderful birthday and many more to come!

Birthday-Male-Age 84-Good Memories.one
Here’s a tidbit of information to share with friends and family when they ask how it feels to be 84 years
old...
On your 84th birthday, you have lived thirty thousand, six hundred, eighty-one days. The way I look at
it, if you pile all those days into one heap, some of them are bound to slide off and provide you some
good memories.
I hope you have many more great memories to come.
Have the happiest 84th birthday!

On your birthday, I thought you might like to reflect on these words from Robert Browning
How good is man’s life, the mere living! How fit to employ
All the heart and the soul and the senses forever in joy!

May your heart and soul and senses be always employed in joy.
And especially on your birthday, «Salutation»—happy birthday!

Quote from Edward Everett Hale: Wise words written a long time ago.
To look up and not down,
to look forward and not back,
to look out and not in, and

—Edward Everett Hale (1802–1909)
On your special day, I thought you might appreciate these wise words. On the other hand, there’s nothing
wrong with looking back if that’s not all you do—is there?
Anyway, I hope you have a truly wonderful birthday!

As the years go by, our priorities shift many times. However, when I reflect on my past, I realize that
through all the changes life has brought, one thing has always stayed consistent:
[Fancy font:]
On my birthday,
I want the biggest piece of cake!
Naturally, I realize that everyone else has needs, too. Nevertheless, on my birthday, I come first, and I
want the most chocolate! And I’ve never quite outgrown it.
So I not only want to wish you an extremely HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I also want to let you know how
much I think YOU deserve the biggest piece of cake—chocolate or otherwise!
So have a wonderful day, and remember:
[Fancy font:]
It’s your special day
and you come first!

Birthday-Male-Age 89-Common Greeting.one
I am afraid we all too often say Happy Birthday in passing and the meaning can be lost. Let’s find it.
[Fancy font for these and other two bold italic words:]
Happy Birthday!
About now, you’ll be hearing this several times. It’s the common greeting in our society that we use
annually. Of course, I want to add my own “Happy Birthday” to the chorus. But I’m afraid that we all
too often say it in passing and the meaning can be lost. So let’s try finding it.
Happiness The joy, delight and wonder of life that makes it worth living. The sweet smell
of a light spring shower, dancing at your child’s wedding, your first one true
love, helping someone out of a predicament. When you know this elation, you
know what I mean by happy.
Birthday The celebration of your being here. The public acknowledgment of the wonder
that is you. The one of 365 days each year that’s yours and yours alone. The
time we set above others to rejoice in you.
As I said, you’ll hear “Happy Birthday” a lot this time of year. But when you hear it from me, I want
you to know exactly what I mean!

It is so often difficult to find a person just the right thing for their birthday. As yours approached, I was
left with this same puzzle. What would the perfect thing be?
[Small graphic of lifter at left] A weight set was the first thing that came to mind. It is so easy as we get
older to let our bodies go. Just think, every morning getting up and pumping iron! Of course, you look
pretty good already, and I realized you might already have an exercise program that you like. So I kept
on thinking.
[At right, small graphic of person examining . . . something] My next thought was some art. Art is a gift
of distinction and taste. I knew if I found the right piece of art it would go over well. The only problem
with art is that it’s so subjective. The art I like might not be the art you like. I decided it would take
more thought than I had originally planned on. So I kept on thinking.
[Small graphic of person leaping and clicking heels at left] Dancing lessons were next on the list.
Everyone likes to dance, right? I made some calls and found a place. When I asked them what they
taught, they listed the waltz, foxtrot, mambo, the boot-scootin’ boogie, and the lambada. But when they
told me the lambada is also called “the forbidden dance,” I thanked them and kept on thinking.
Finally, I decided on a wish for a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY instead. But I do hope your birthday is full
of dance, beauty, and weight sets.

Why is it that as people get older they seem to care less and less about their birthdays?
I may not have a large party and stay up all night opening gifts anymore, but I do take time to reflect on
my life and the year that has gone by! I think about my accomplishments and my blessings. I muse over
the things I wanted to do and never did. And finally, I remember what it is that makes me happy and
promise myself that I will do as much of it as I can.
I love my life, and while the days may get lost in routines, I know that one day of the entire year is all
mine to enjoy. I hope you’ll spend your special day reflecting on your own life of accomplishments and
blessings.

Nowadays, life can be hectic. Daily frustrations, needless worry, friends pushed aside, not enough

So I wanted to take this time to send you a simple note, wishing you all the best on this very special day.
Happy Birthday! And keep life simple . . . if you can.
