Greetings:
The Theta Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is seeking talented high school
students (grades 9-12) with training and ability in music and the performing arts to participate in our Annual
Talent Hunt Competition. The competition is scheduled for Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 4:00 PM at the
Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, 2443 Highway54 West, Peachtree City, GA 30269. Preliminary auditions
are scheduled for noon Saturday March 29 at Thomas Crossroads Elementary School 3530 E. Hwy
34, Sharpsburg, Georgia 30277.
Cash prizes in the amounts of $500, $250, and $100 will be awarded to the top three overall contestants
respectively. All program participants will receive certificates of appreciation. Additionally, the winners at
the District and National Level are eligible for scholarship awards. The top two finishers at the state level are
eligible to compete at the District level in April 2014, and the District level winner advances to National
competition. The Fraternity will pay expenses associated with competing at higher levels.
Enclosed you will find applications and guidelines. Please share this information with your students.
Applications must be returned no later than March 28, 2013. The categories for competition are dance,
drama, and music. Please note that the music category is limited to classical, gospel, or what is considered

to showcase his or her talent.
As a matter of information, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity is a Greek Letter organization comprised of men
dedicated to what we call our "Four Cardinal Principles": Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift.
Founded in 1911 at Howard University in Washington, DC, we have chapters on college campuses in cities
throughout the United States and several locations outside the United States.
We solicit your support to encourage your students to participate in this scheduled event. This is an
opportunity for your school’s performing arts program to showcase their students’ talent before a live
audience of their families, acquaintances and friends. Attached are the appropriate forms for entry.

If you choose you may submit your application via e-mail to jkelseyallen@gmail.com by
completing the form and attaching it to an e-mail or by inserting the requested information in the
body of an e-mail. Do not attempt to send sheet music in the e-mail, if you e-mail your
application bring the sheet music with you to the competition.
GUIDELINES FOR OMEGA PSI PHI LOCAL TALENT HUNT
1. Competition is open to all high school students (grades 9 - 12).
2. The competition is open to the following forms of trained art:
A. Music: Vocal and Instrumental; classical, semi-classical, gospel, jazz, and "middle of
the road".
B. Dance: Interpretative movement to music; ballet, modern dance, tap dance.
C. Speech/Drama: Poetry, readings, orations, monologues, etc.
3. Selections performed must be memorized and should not exceed five (5) minutes. Failure to
memorize selection or exceeding five minutes will affect your rating.
4. Copies of music performed or Oral presentation being made must be provided prior to
performing.
5. If you require accompaniment you should arrange for it in advance of the performance.
6. Among the areas considered in judging your performance are: tone, stage presence, technique,
dynamics, and memorization.
7. Other than costumes for their performance, participants are expected to dress appropriately for
this occasion. Recommended dress is formal (females – long formal gowns, men – black tuxedos/black
tie). As a minimum, dress should comply with the standards established by the Coweta and Fayette
County School Systems or individual schools.
8. This competition is the first of four levels of Competition:
A. Local - Each chapter in Georgia sponsors a Talent Hunt
B. State - The first place winners of each local Talent Hunt in Georgia compete against each
other to represent Georgia at the next level of competition, the District.
C. District - The first and second place winners from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and
Mississippi compete for the Seventh District title.
D. National - The first place winner from each of twelve District Talent Hunts compete for
the National title.
The local chapter pays expenses to the State competition, the State pays expenses to the District
Competition, and the District pays expenses to the National Competition.
