Rho Gamma Gamma Chapter The men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Rho Gamma Gamma Chapter are proud to announce its 2008 Rho Gamma Gamma Memorial Scholarship contest. This scholarship program seeks to recognize relatives of Rho Gamma Gamma chapter members who exhibit the qualities of Scholarship – one of the four cardinal principles of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. The objective of this program is to provide financial assistance to college freshman who exhibit a diligent commitment to fulfill life’s goals through education. REQUIREMENTS Applicants must meet the following requirements: - Be a consanguineous relative (i.e. related through blood) of a financial member of Rho Gamma Gamma Chapter. (Said member must be in good standing and fully-financial with the chapter, Tenth District, and the fraternity for the 2007-2008 fiscal year.) - Be a gradating senior at a Chicago or suburban public or private high school. - Submit official high school transcripts. - Submit A.C.T. / S.A.T. Scores. - Complete an Application Profile (see page 4 of application). - Submit a typewritten essay (500 words maximum) on the following topic: Senator Barack Obama is a candidate for President of the United States of America. Although Black candidates have run for president in the past (most notably Shirley Chisolm in 1972, Jesse Jackson in 1984 and 1988, Al Sharpton in 2000 and 2004, and Carol MosleyBraun in 2000), many describe Senator Obama’s campaign as being historical because he won the 2008 Iowa Caucuses and national polls have him ranked either #1 or #2 behind Senator Hillary Rodham-Clinton. In your assessment, is America ready for a Black man to become President of the United States? - Supply three (3) letters of recommendation. The letters of recommendation shall attest to the applicant’s character and commitment to higher education. - Submit an official acceptance letter from an accredited college or university. AWARD Two (2) Rho Gamma Gamma Memorial Scholars will be selected. Each scholar will receive an award of $1,000.00 payable at a rate of $500.00 per semester.
