Report of the Diocesan Lenten Collection and Allocation Committee 2014 Lenten Appeal The theme of the 2014 Lenten Message is: “愛是信的圓滿 Faith comes to perfection with love”. 2. Cardinal John TONG, in his pastoral letter, reminded us to purify ourselves, pray fervently, be concerned for the poor and abstain from living a materialistic lifestyle. By improving our relationship with others, with God and with ourselves, we may enjoy a deeper understanding of the Resurrection. Funds Collected 3. In response to the appeal, a total amount of HK$7.048 million has been raised as compared with HK$6.946 million raised in 2013. A slight increase of 1.47%. On 30 July 2014, the Committee sent out invitation letters to 53 parishes, 87 Catholic secondary schools / tertiary institutions and 7 agencies for application for Lenten Funds for various charitable activities. In response to the invitation, 16 parishes, 37 secondary schools and 7 agencies submitted their applications. Allocation of Funds 5. The Committee held its meeting on 26 November 2014 to consider these applications. Parish Relief School Community Projects 1.3% Overseas Relief The Lenten Charitable School Award Competitions The Lenten Organising Committee had promoted the Campaign by organizing a “Lenten Charitable School Competitions” scheme by inviting students to participate in Drawings, Colouring, Photo, Blog writing competitions to express the meaning of Lent. A briefing was held on 22 February 2014 at the Rosary Church Hall, Kowloon. A total of 883,337 entries from 93 schools were received. The prize winning presentation was held at the Rosary Church Hall on 24 May 2014. Those winning entries are posted at the Lenten website : “www.lenten.catholic.org.hk”. Acknowledgements 10. The Committee wishes to thank all those who have helped to promote the campaign, contributed generously to the Lenten Fund with their sacrifices to help the sick, the aged, homeless, the handicapped and the underprivileged.
