WEB>CLICKER OPTIONAL SYLLABUS ATTACHMENT NOTES TO INSTRUCTOR: If you would like to identify individual student responses and assign grades for student responses we recommend that you add i>clicker registration instructions to your syllabus. Students will then understand why they are purchasing i>clicker and how the devices will tie into your grading rubric. If you are using Web registration, the key to your success is deciding before registration which student ID will be used. If you are using a Learning Management System (LMS) to record grades (like Blackboard, ANGEL, Moodle), students should use their LMS ID. Include instructions in your syllabus with the specific ID you decide to use so that the students are clear on what ID they will be using to register. Decide upon a policy for students who cannot or do not register their clickers successfully. Do you want them to find you after class? In your office hours? Email you their remote ID and student ID for manual registration? Communicate clear expectations to students for bringing their i>clicker2 remote to class each day and what the consequences of not bringing it will be for your students. If you are assigning points for clicker use, you also may wish to specify how many in the syllabus. You might include an edited version of the following in your syllabus: GENERAL SYLLABUS INSTRUCTIONS: In this course, you have the option of using an i>clicker, i>clicker+, or i>clicker2 remote, or using web>clicker, which enables you to vote via a web-enabled device like a laptop or smart phone. PLEASE NOTE that web>clicker cannot be used in a course where your instructor has not enabled web>clicker. Check with your instructor to ensure that web>clicker is permitted in each course you take—otherwise, you may want to consider purchasing a remote so that you can use it in all your courses. Only purchase a web>clicker subscription if: 1. You will not be using i>clicker in another course that does not allow web>clicker as an alternative to purchasing a remote. 2. You do not plan to sell back a remote to the bookstore. 3. You have access to a wireless device (i.e. a laptop, iPhone, iPod Touch, or Android) running a browser that supports AJAX, JavaScript, and HTTPS requests such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari. Be sure to check with your instructor if you have questions about the possibility of using web>clicker in your course(s). SYLLABUS INSTRUCTIONS FOR WEB REGISTRATION: You are required to purchase an i>clicker remote for in-class participation. i>clicker is a response system that allows you to respond to questions I pose during class, and you will be graded on that feedback and/or your in-class participation. In order to receive this credit, you will need to register your i>clicker remote by [deadline set by instructor]. If you have decided to purchase web>clicker instead of a remote, please see below for registration instructions. You must have come to class at least once and voted on at least one question in order to complete this registration properly. Once you have responded to a question with your i>clicker remote, go to http://www.iclicker.com/registration. Complete the fields with your first name, last name, student ID, and remote ID. Your student ID should be [student ID chosen by instructor]. The remote ID is the series of numbers and sometimes letters found on the bottom of the back of your i>clicker remote. i>clicker will be used every day in class, and you are responsible for bringing your remote daily. If you have decided to use the web>clicker option, proceed with the following steps to purchase and register your web>clicker account: TO DOWNLOAD THE APP USING YOUR iPHONE OR ANDROID DEVICE: 1. By entering your student ID, you will receive credit for your web>clicker responses. If you have more questions on i>clicker registration, please visit www.iclicker.com for FAQs and other resources. SYLLABUS INSTRUCTIONS FOR IN-CLASS (“ROLL CALL”) REGISTRATION: *this method is not recommended for classes with over 30 students You are required to purchase an i>clicker remote for in-class participation. i>clicker is a response system that allows you to respond to questions I pose during class; you will be graded on that feedback and/or your in-class participation. In order to receive this credit, you will need to register your i>clicker remote in class. I will project a Registration screen with 3 steps to follow (look for your [student ID], which will alphabetically scroll down the screen). Once your remote is registered, your [student ID] will no longer appear on that scrolling list and you are registered for the entire semester. If you have more questions, please visit the Registration area of www.icicker.com. i>clicker will be used every day in class, and you are responsible for bringing your remote daily. (Note to instructor: [student ID] = the type of student ID that you have chosen to use, as noted in the instructions above.) OPTIONAL I>CLICKER POLICIES Sample of cheating policy for syllabus: I consider bringing a fellow student’s i>clicker to class to be cheating and a violation of the University Honor Code. If you are caught with a remote other than your own or have votes in a class that you did not attend, you will forfeit all clicker points and may face additional disciplinary action. Sample of forgotten clicker for syllabus: Please realize that we will be using i>clicker in almost every class and clicker points will make up [X%] of your final grade. Please remember that it is your responsibility to come prepared to participate with a functioning remote everyday. However, I do realize that difficult circumstances do arise, and for this reason I will drop the lowest [#] i>clicker session from your total participation grade. Sample of broken/lost clicker policy for syllabus: If you have lost or broken your i>clicker remote, you will have to purchase another one. Please email me with your new Remote ID so that I can manually register your new remote.
