Course Summary:

This course teaches students about our legal system and how it directly affects them as a citizen of the United

States, as well as, its impact on business. Legal concepts are uncovered through case scenarios, mock trials, legal role-playing on film, and a visit to the court house to watch a real live case.

Course Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will know:

 Criminal Law and Procedure

 Civil Law and Procedure

 Contract Law o Offer and Acceptance o Genuineness of Assent o Consideration o Legal Capacity to Contract o Legal Purpose and Proper Form o Contractual Obligations and Their Enforcement

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

 Apply ethics in decision making

 Explain constitutional rights as a citizen of the Unites States

 Describe the structure of a court system at the local, state, and federal levels

 List and classify crimes and torts

 Explain procedures followed for the sake of justice

 Analyze a contract to determine if it is legally binding based on the elements it entails
