Please see additional benefits at the end of this document. Bachelors degree with residence life or related experience. Ability to interact effectively with students from diverse backgrounds. A commitment to a multicultural education and an understanding of the value of a women’s college experience. Enrollment in a graduate program in an area relevant to the position. Course load and other outside commitments must be appropriate to the time demands of the position. Resident Director Responsibilities & Objectives (approximately 20 hours/week): Administrative Duties 1. Ensure the maintenance and order within the residence hall. 2. Supervise the administrative duties associated with the operation of the residence hall (i.e. posting, bulletin boards, etc.). 3. Maintain appropriate management records and provide written reports and summaries as requested by the Director of Residence Life. 4. Coordinate the opening and closing of the residence hall in conjunction with the opening and closing of the academic year and various vacation periods. 5. Coordinate/approve all room changes within and regarding his or her residence hall. 6. Coordinate the residence hall property and inventory damage billing procedures. 7. Perform inspections of student rooms to maintain appropriate standards of health, safety, and maintenance. 8. Report needed repairs to custodial/maintenance staff and supervisor. 9. Maintain records of all student moves in and out of the building. Responsible for turning in completed RCRs throughout the year and at end of academic year. 10. Be present for (and coordinate if on duty) fire drills twice each semester. Professional Supervision 1. Supervise and establish performance goals for resident advisor staff in the building. 2. Conduct on-going weekly supervisory meetings and periodic staff development sessions with RA staff on a group and individual basis. 3. Assist the resident advisor staff in dealing with student concerns. 4. Assist in the recruitment and selection of residence advisor staff. 5. Assist in the development and presentation of resident assistant pre-semester training and inservices. 1 6. Evaluate resident advisor staff at least once per year or on an as needed basis. Student Development 1. Plan, organize, and direct student activities and programs on the residence campus. 2. Interpret and explain college philosophy, policies, expectations, and regulations to individual students, parents, and groups in the residence hall. 3. Become reasonably acquainted with residents to facilitate referrals to appropriate academic and/or administrative departments. 4. Provide appropriate counseling to students 5. Meet with students residing in the residence halls for judicial matters. 6. Present at the annual Colleges of the Fenway (COF) RA Training in winter. 7. Advise the residence hall council. Campus Life Responsibilities 1. Participate in professional and student staff selection 2. Advise a RA committee 3. Attend professional training workshops provided by Residence Life, Student Life, Human Resources, and Colleges of the Fenway. 4. Contribute to Campus Life Monthly Blog posts 5. Be present & provide support for Campus Life Quadside LATE NIGHT events. 6. All RDs will work on a campus life initiative. These assignments, in conjunction with other campus life work will require approximately 5 hours each week and will worked on during the ORL office hours. Specific assignments may be made with consideration of RD strengths and interests, as well as the needs of the campus life team. Initiatives include, but are not limited, to the following projects: Appreciation Athletics promotion COF promotion Conduct Graduate student support Off campus programming Quadside Weekend programming/Student Activities Student Leadership Selection Process Online communication coordinator/Web/Social Media Other 1. The Resident Director will have a minimum of 5 hours of designated and posted office hours per regular work week in his or her building. 2. The Resident Director will have a minimum of 5 hours of designated office hours per regular work week in the Office of Residence Life (ORL). 3. Participate in on-duty rotation 4. Participation in Professional Staff Training, August 8-17, 2012 5. Participation in Student Leader training, August 20-31, 2012 and opening weekend (Aug 31- Sept 3). The starting date is August 1, 2012 and ends May 31, 2013. The position requires some day, evening and weekend hours. In addition to 10 set office hours, Resident Directors must be available for an hour and a half for the weekly professional staff meeting, an hour each week for RA staff meetings, as well as 3-4 hours for 1:1 meetings with their Campus Life Coordinator supervisor and RA staff. RDs will also need to be available on other important dates as scheduled in the Residence Life operational calendar. We encourage participation in 2 programs and activities outside of the job description for professional development, however these involvements will be considered above and beyond required job requirements. Resident Directors enrolled in a graduate program may not have more than 15 hours per week combined internship/practicum and/or part-time employment on or off campus (outside of the Simmons RD position). Resident Directors must live within their assigned apartment full-time and may not have pets. Resident Directors must vacate their apartment by the end of their contract, May 31st. Returning staff and outgoing staff have the option of staying on campus during the summer in exchange for summer duty. Last date in residence for outgoing staff is July 10th. Staff may be asked to relocate depending on availability and needs of the professional staff apartment in which they reside. All Resident Directors must pass a criminal background check. The Resident Director position is for 1 year, renewable.
