Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management POSITION DESCRIPTION The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (www.cfs,purdue.edu/HTM) at Purdue University (www.purdue.edu) is seeking a Department Head to provide leadership for a group of 28 multi-talented and diverse faculty and other professionals toward a common goal of excellence in discovery, learning, and engagement. The Department’s graduate and undergraduate programs include concentrations in foodservice, lodging, and tourism management. The Graduate Program offers researchbased programs that lead to a M.S. or Ph.D. Programs in the department have earned significant national and international recognition. The mission of the department is focused on developing future leaders for hospitality and tourism through rigorous learning programs, innovative and diverse engagement activities and cutting edge research. Hospitality and Tourism Management, with approximately 550 undergraduate and 50 graduate students, is one of four departments in the College of Consumer and Family Sciences (www.cfs.purdue.edu) QUALIFICATIONS The candidate must have an earned doctorate, a distinguished record of significant research, professional service, and effective teaching. In order to achieve the goals of HTM industry experience is a vital part of a portfolio of accomplishments. The candidate should have demonstrated effective leadership including but not limited to vision for hospitality education, the ability to influence others, strong communication, administrative and interpersonal skills, and a strong interest (and effectiveness) in corporate and alumni development. The candidate must currently hold the rank of full professor and/or have the credentials appropriate for rank of full professor at Purdue University. SALARY AND APPOINTMENT TERMS Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications. Purdue offers an excellent benefits package including TIAA/CREF retirement plan. The Department Head appointment is a twelve-month position. The preferred start date is July 1, 2009. THE DEPARTMENT http://www.cfs.purdue.edu/HTM Hospitality and Tourism Management has 17 faculty and professionals engaged in teaching, research, and extension in programs of foodservice, lodging, and tourism management. The Arthur Avery Foodservice Research Laboratory is dedicated to provide the industry with research in the areas of equipment, design and engineering, sanitation, and product testing/development.
