Your Task:
Write a photo critique essay in which you discuss 1984 from the particular perspective of
the photo that is provided for you in the Photo Critique. In your essay, provide your
interpretation of the painting, why it relates to 1984, research the artist, relate his or her
life to the story of 1984 and support your opinion using specific references. However,
you must remember the conventions of standard written English. This means avoiding
first and second person (I, Me, You, We, Us), colloquialisms and other words that would
be considered inappropriate in a formal paper.
Guidelines:
Be sure to:
 Provide a valid interpretation of the photo.
 Use 1984 to support your opinion.
 Avoid plot summary.
 Organize your ideas in a unified and coherent manner.
 Follow the conventions of standard written English.
 Find out about the paintings shape, color and angles all play a role in these
paintings.
 Do research on the painting and painters and provide appropriate citations and an
appropriate works cited page.
 Plagiarism of any kind is unacceptable and will result in a zero for this paper.
