Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Endoscopy Unit
1. Gives the patient their appointment and explain to them the preparations needed for
upper and/or lower endoscopy.
2. Sees to it that the patient is fully prepared on the day of the appointment with consent
signed and laboratory results available in patient’s file.
3. Bring the patient to the procedure room and explain what is to be expected before,
during and after the procedure.
4. Ensures that every equipment is working and materials needed are ready and prepared
prior to procedure time.
5. Provides patient comfort and safety at all times by such measures as: proper
positioning and suctioning out of secretions to prevent aspiration.
6. Anticipates the doctor’s needs and sees to it that before the patient leave the unit, he
or she is well instructed on when to resume food or fluids.
7. Cares for the sedated patient, monitor vital signs until stable and inform the physician
for any abnormalities or deviations.
8. Demonstrate competency in cleaning the scopes with the solution and handle it
tenderly.
9. Check the scope before and after the procedure for leakage, inform the Charge Nurse
if leakage is present.
10. Always give a tender loving care to the patient and always bear in mind their safety.
11. Transfers acute patient for Admission to ward and gives accurate verbal and written
report to the receiving Unit Charge Nurse.
12. Performs on call duty.
