Project 2 Quiz: Friday April 27th, 2007
Study Guide
Format: This is a paper-and-pencil quiz. Any computer-related questions will have the
relevant dialogue box for you to write in your answers by hand. The quiz consists
entirely of short answer/show-your-work type questions. There are 8 questions in all,
with only one question having two parts.
Content: The quiz is focused around all major mathematical and computing aspects of
the project:

In particular, you should and are responsible for being able to explain all numerical
computations of cells in the sheet 1 ATM of the Queue Focus.xls. The worksheet we did
in-class on simulating 1 ATM will be especially useful as you study. You can expect a
very similar type of simulation to appear on the quiz. In addition, you should be able to
apply all relevant and necessary probability distribution and random sampling concepts
as they related to the project. This includes being able to use the exponential distribution
for Monte Carlo simulation of the time between arrivals of customers, bootstrapping with
the service times, converting histograms into approximate p.d.f. functions from a large
sample and estimating probabilities and expected values from those samples.
