Adoption of Standing Orders

Chairman’s Address
The Chairman opened the meeting by mentioning that when he was elected as Chairman of the Club two years
ago there were two major trophies that the Club had not won -U15 Football Championship and the Senior
Hurling Championship. Last year we won the U15 Football Championship and finally, we have now
completed the collection with the acquisition of the senior hurling Championship a few weeks ago. And we all
know we are not finished yet and the aim is to be receiving the All-Ireland Trophy on the steps of Croke Park
on St Patrick’s Day. The Chairman thanked the many hundreds of coaches who played their part over the last
37 years, and the local schools that also did their bit over the years to keep hurling strong in the area. The
Chairman thanked the players, all 34 on the panel, who have worked extremely hard over the last 12 months to
get to this stage. The Management team of Liam Hogan, Jim Kilty, John Kirwan, Robbie Lambert, Gerry
Aherne and Vincent Teehan and the army of other helpers who have put in a huge amount of time and effort.
Go raibh mile maith agaibh go leir.
The Chairman referred to the other hurling teams who with their managers and mentor’s, kept going about
their business and too had a relatively good year with the Intermediate team doing particularly well. The
Chairman thanked the Chairman, Eddie Finn, Secretary, Richard Condron and his Committee for their work
over the last 12 months.
In listing the achievements of the Club over the 12months, he mentioned the success of the Senior Ladies
Football team in reaching and winning their 8th Senior County Final and their 5th Leinster title this year. As
Liam Delaney stood down during the year the Chairman wished Pat McGrath every success in the coming
year. The Chairman mentioned that the Senior Camogie team showed true grit again this year and were
unlucky not to advance to the County Final. The Chairman thanked Ciara Hayes and Sinead McNeela and the
Camogie Committee for their continued hard work. The Senior Footballers had a good start to their
championship but went down once again to Kilmacud. The Chairman wished Dan O’Sullivan the best in his
retirement and thanked Peter Shovlin and his Committee for all their hard work.
The Chairman referred to the success of our Juvenile Section and thanked the Chairman, John Ryan, and his
committee. The Chairman thanked Brian, Paul and their cohort of workers for their commitment to the
Nurseries on Saturday mornings.
The Chairman commented on the lack of volunteers to fill the Executive was a source of worry. This year
there is no nomination for Club Registrar and there are three vacancies on the Committee.
The Chairman referred to the Treasurer’s report and without going into too much detail mentioned that the
current spending of the Club is very much under control. He thanked all playing sections who accepted the
4
need for cutbacks and the self financing of teams.
As in all Clubs, fundraising is a source of income and necessary to boost the coffers. The Lotto plays a bit part
in Club fundraising and in the past few years Punchestown and the Night at the Dogs proved to be very
successful. The Chairman thanked all involved in these Committees for their hard work and also a Big Thank
you to Danny Griffin, who after 17 years has to step down this year.
The Chairman mentioned the bar has been a regular source of finance over many years. However, this year the
income has dropped again and he encourages all to use the lounge.
The Chairman referred to the work at Sancta Maria which was now taking shape. Unfortunately, ongoing
problems with the Council’s planning department delayed progress on the all weather pitch. During the year
the Chairman advised that we had negotiated with the Sisters of Mercy to release the Club from the obligation
to build the sports hall for a consideration of €800,000. The purchase of Colaiste Eanna for €900,000 had
fallen through.
The Chairman thanked Tara Durkin and Paul O’Brien for their contribution to the Skills Wall.
Sudden Adult Death Syndrome is something we are hearing more and more in recent days. The Chairman
advised that the Club have purchased a Defibrillator and thanked Niall Sudway for his contribution to same.
Anne Marie Sudway, Sinead Ryan,Louise O’Regan, Donie Kerin and Noel Sheridan have taken on the task of
training up people on the use of same.
The Chairman mentioned that the Senior Citizens Network Group had been set up during the year thanks to
Fintan Walsh and his team.
The Chairman referred to the Strategic Review Report being headed by Terry O’Neill and his sub committee
and that we await their report.
Daithi Scolard who was one of the founders of the Club was stepping down as President and the Chairman
thanked him for all his support throughout the year. The Chairman looked forward to working with Liam
Coffey in the coming year.
On a final note the Chairman thanked all who helped and supported him throughout the year in fulfilling his
role as Chairman.

Intermediates
Report by Conor Doolan
Mentors: Conor Doolan, John Galvin, John Archbold
After avoiding the relegation play offs last season the team got off to a good start and had gained 6 points
from their first four matches. However the team struggled with the approach of summer due to exam
commitments and student holiday visas. A couple of wins in September saw them move out of the relegation
zone but are still not clear.
In the championship, the Intermediates lost to na Fianna 0-16 to 0-9 and looked to be gone from the losers
round when trailing St. Sylvesters 2-6 to 0-1 at half-time in Parnell Park. A spirited second half performance
saw them snatch a draw with practically the last kick of the game. The replay in O’Toole Park finished level
0-11 apiece and went to extra time. Sylvesters got the upper hand with a goal at the end of the first period of
extra time and went on to win by 5 points. In the championship relegation play off the team won at the first
attempt overcoming Round Towers of Lusk by 0-13 to 0-8.
The team completed in the annual Templeogue/Synge St tournament, winning their group before going down
to St. Brigids of Offaly in the semi-final by 2 points.
Congratulations to David Hughes on making the Dublin Junior panel.

Junior A
Report by Conor Hand
Team manager: Conor Hand
Selectors: Denis Donohue and Tommy Flynn
In division 6, the team has played 13 games so far, winning eight, drawing one and losing four. We have two
remaining games against Thomas Davis and St Peregrines. We still have an outside chance of promotion,
depending on our final games and results from other games. Promotion was our major goal again this year but
it may just escape us yet again.
We are in the final of the Stacey Cup. We drew with St Annes in the final at St Annes ground and now face
them in the replay. The drawn match was very keenly contested with our team making a very strong recovery
in the second half.
We also reached the quarter final of the Championship.
We have a very good squad of players, producing good attractive football. Injuries at critical times upset our
rhythm. This team is good enough to compete at division 5.
We are indebted to Paddy Bates and Niall Brennan for sponsorship during the year.
Update report on Stacey Cup replay (report from Boden website)
Junior A vs St. Anne's
Sunday, 9th November 2008
Result: 2 - 7 to 0 - 6
The Junior A's won a second Stacey Cup Final after a hard fought replay win over St Annes. The A's started nervously in a low
scoring first half and found themselves 2 points down after 10 minutes. The gap could have been wider but for a brilliant save
from Alan Kennedy, who had to leave the pitch injured soon afterwards. However, Boden started getting on top and two frees
from Stephen Fee and a terrific first point of the season from wing back Karol Cronin gave the Juniors a deserved lead. With a
minute to go, Annes one a harsh penalty but former Senior Star Ger Flaherty reeled back the years to save it and keep the Boden
ahead at half time.
Ballyboden started the second half where they left off and a screamer from Ronan Donohoe gave them a 5 point lead with 8
minutes to go. Annes responded well and got the deficit back to 3 before a superb Liam O Dwyer free and a Ciaran Dempsey
goal clinched it for the club.
Team captain was Aaron O'Reilly.
Team: A Kennedy, A O'Reilly(c), B Young, J Fleming, K Cronin, J Corrigan, S Hogan, D Saville, R Donohoe, C Nevin,
A Gardiner, J Marrinan, S Fee, C Reade, G Ward. Subs Used: G Flaherty for Kennedy (inj.), C Dempsey for Reade, L
O Dwyer for Marrinan, P Bates for Ward, P O Connell for Fee.
Well done to Conor Hand, Tommy Flynn, Denis O'Donoghue and the players involved.

Junior B
Report by Niall Kelly
This team competed in Junior division 9 league, Sheridan Cup and the D championship. The team was
managed by Niall Kelly, Noel Lynn and John Doyle.
The team reached the Sheridan Cup semi final, losing by one point to Erins Isle after extra time. There was a
second round exit in the championship and we will finish in the top half of the league.
The team had a strong panel at the start of the season but a lot of players went away during the summer which
left us short for a number of games. This, I believe, is where we lost the league, being beaten by teams we
knew we could have beaten with our full panel. A small number of players who gave up playing for the club
returned and are playing a full part in the panel.
To secure the future of this team a number of this year’s minors must be drafted to the panel on block as a
number of players will not be playing next season. I was unpleasantly reminded of the practice of managers
from other teams telling players they are now on their panel, without contacting the management of the team
they are taking the player from.
I would like to thank the three dual players that played with us- Moss Nagle, Ciaran Twomey and Conor
McCormack and also the football committee.
On a final note, I would suggest the in-coming committee should highlight the problem of poor fixture
planning during the season. On a number of occasions we only played two matches during a month and some
months we only played one. If we played every week we could have finished our competitions much earlier.
As it stands we have three league matches to play at the worst time of the year.
Minor A
Report by Jim Keane 1 November 2008

The Minor A’s played a total of 26 games in 2008, winning 21, drawing 1 and losing 4. The following is the
breakdown of the games:
League: We played 7 - wining 5, drawing 1 and losing 1. We lie in 2nd place and await news of a playoff for
the league championship.
Championship: We played 5 games and won all but were beaten in the County semi-final.
Challenge Games: We played 15 games winning 12 and losing 3.
14
Minor B
Report by Dave Mellon 24 October 2008
The Minor B team played 12 games and won six approx. We have a very committed bunch of players.
Enjoyed a trip to Armagh and played St. Patricks of Newtownhamilton. We won by 8 points. The
management team was strengthened with the introduction of a former inter-county Kildare footballer - John
Archbold as head of squad development and joint manager. Not enough competitive games was an ongoing
problem.

Health and Welfare Issues
Concern had been expressed at recent AGMs about the working of the injury scheme. As a result it was
decided that a dedicated person should administer all injury forms across the sections. Jody Moran is
performing this task and we thank Jody for his efforts in this important area of player welfare.
In the course of the year, the club purchased a defibrilator. A number of persons have been trained to use it
and again our thanks are due to all who give of their time.
Representative honours
Congrats to Conal Keaney, Colin Moran and Declan O’ Mahoney who represented the club on the Dublin
senior football team. Also to Davie Hughes and Darren Homan who represented us in the Dublin junior
football team who won the All Ireland. Stephen Hiney and Simon Lambert represented us on the Dublin
hurling team. Darragh Nelson, Seamus Keane,Sean Gibbons were involved in the Dublin minor panel.
Congrats to other sections
Many congratulations to the senior hurlers who retained the county championship. Also to the senior camogie
team who captured the championship and went on to win the Leinster Championship, and the Ladies
footballers who yet again retained the Dublin championship. Brilliant year to win three out of four premier
championships. Hopefully next year we can strive to make it the clean sweep.
Thanks
The club depends on the voluntary efforts and goodwill of so many people. On behalf of the Football
Committee I would like to thank all who contributed towards the Adult Football Section in the year:


To the players particularly for all their efforts. We hope they enjoyed their playing year.
To the managers and mentors for the sacrifices they made and the time they put into preparing the


all those who helped with jobs including putting up and taking down nets, preparing the fields for
matches, scoreboard keeping, gate duty, giving lifts to matches, washing jerseys, making sandwiches
etc.
to Jody Moran for his administration of player injuries claims for the club
to all those who took the time to get trained up in the use of the defibrillator and hoping that the
expertise you acquired will not need to be called upon.
to Ned Slattery, Peter and the bar staff for their help and support through the year
general manager, Noel Sheridan, who is always available and helpful
the Executive under Paddy Walsh, for their support

HURLING
Chairman:
Vice Chairman:
Secretary:
Eddie Finn
Jimmy Galavan
Richard Condron
Chairman’s Address
Your are all very welcome here tonight, as another year comes to a close with the holding of
our A.G.M. and what a fabulous year 2008 has been for Ballyboden St. Enda’s
Senior “A”
Pride of place must go to our Senior “A” hurlers who retained the Dublin Senior
Championship, beating Crokes by a ten points margin in the final. As I have often said it
takes a good team to win a championship, but it takes a great team to win two on the trot.
The Dublin Championship was a long drawn out affair, starting in April and the final wasn’t
played until November, its not easy to keep the momentum going over such a long period.
Having played championship games on four successive weeks prior to playing Birr, the team
was naturally tired and flat on the day, and did not do themselves justice. Now with winter
here I’m sure the team would like a break, regroup next spring and prepare for 2009.
At this time I want to say a big thank you to Liam Hogan and his fellow mentors for a job
well done.
Senior “B”
Our Senior “B” team reached the semi final of the championship. This game was played
under atrocious conditions in O’Toole Park. It must be heart breaking for Emmett and his
fellow mentors Philip, Michael and Brendan and the team to have to play a county semi final
after months of dedicated preparations under such conditions.
22
Junior “”A”
The Junior “A” team under manager Johnny Kenny reached the semi final of the
championship and were narrowly beaten by St. Brigid’s. This team played in the AHL 3
league (old intermediate league).
Junior “B”
The Junior “B” managed by Seamus Vaughan narrowly failed to reach the play off of their
championship. They were unlucky to be deducted points by the CCC after an investigation
into a crucial league game with Crumlin. The points from this game would have left us in a
position to contest the league final.
Minor “A”
I always say and will continue to say championships don’t come easy and the Minor
Championship this year was no different, all the games were hard fought often under very
poor conditions but our gallant young men fought to the bitter end and in a great final
defeated Cuala by one point.
This team was managed by Francis Sharkey and ably assisted by Paul Daly, Conor Sheehan
and Donal Ryan.
Again a big thank you to all.
Minor “B”
The Minor “B” team managed by Dave Hartford and mentors Eddie Finn, John Small and
John Ryan have reached their county final after victories over Cuala and Kilmacud Crokes in
a replay. They now meet St. Vincent’s in the final. The team initially struggled for numbers
but fulfilled all fixtures with the help of the Under “16” players. Again a fine bunch of lads
and don’t want to know anything about defeat.
23
Under “16”
This team does not come under our jurisdiction, however as we fielded two minor teams and
at times were down in numbers the U “16” management in true club spirit and cooperation
came to our rescue, and what a success this proved to be for all.
Congratulations must go to John Small and his mentors for putting together a superb U “16”
squad, they battled their way to the County Final and after sixty minutes of top quality
hurling they beat a very good St. Jude’s team. John Ryan, being the coach here and what a
fine job John has done.
Finally I wish to say these are great times for Ballyboden hurling. Three championships
won, and more to come, fielding five adult teams and two minor teams. Long may it
continue, as they say in rural Ireland you couldn’t beat it with a stick.

Over 40: Brian Kelleher
I will outline the competitions and results that hurling teams participated in for 2008
under individual team reports.
Fixtures 2008
Our adult, minor and under 21 teams participated in over 90 competitive games in Dublin
during 2008 and challenge games around the Country.
The league/championship offered good quality competition to our teams.
The championships for our 4 adult teams were played on a round robin system
The senior A team had 4 teams in their group, the Senior B, Junior A and Junior C teams had
6 teams in their groups.
Players who were eligible to play Senior B, Junior A and Junior C at the start of the season
were not allowed to step back down if they played one game at a higher grade in the
championship during the year. This rule stretched our resources.
All adult teams were forced on a few occasions to fulfill league fixtures with limited
numbers due to inter county duties and holidays.
Great credit is due to the team managements for maximizing player resources.
The CCC attempted to re-write the rules in mid season to stop players from our second adult
team stepping up the normal three games for the senior A team. This was opposed
successfully by the club. The second unsuccessful rule change by the CCC was to declare our
2 senior league teams separate clubs
Our hurling committee made representation to the GAC to spread out fixtures over the
hurling week. This was carried out where possible.
25
Other clubs are also making representation with their own agenda.
I would like to thank
Paddy Walsh, Annette Sheehan and the executive for their assistance and encouragement
during the year.
Jody Moran for the efficient way that he dealt with the player injury scheme
Danny Griffin for his fund raising efforts on behalf of the adult hurling section.
Noel Sheridan for his co-operation on all club matters.
Ned Slattery and his bar staff.
John Cummins for his hurley repair service.
Our club PRO Gerry O’ Sullivan for his assistance with updating hurling section information
on the web and the club notes in the daily papers. Mentors should pass on information to
Gerry for inclusion in his updates.
The hurling section is fortunate to have groups of dedicated mentors. Each group is well
organized and have realistic ambitions of winning their own league and championship.
2009
The senior A team will compete in the senior A championship, league and possibly the
Leinster hurling league.
0ur second adult team will compete in the Senior B championship and the Senior A league.
The Junior A team will compete in the Junior A championship and division 3 league.
The Junior C team will complete in the Junior C championship and division 6 league.
This level of competition for our adult teams combined with demands for Dublin inter county
panels will stretch our resources to the limit again in 2009. This will require maximum cooperation between groups of mentors to achieve all our aims
I would like to also thank all the players and organisers for the very special St Stephen’s day
last year where we had a memorial trophy for Declan Maguire. We look forward to a similar
event later this year.
Many of our adult players already help out with juvenile teams and they are an advertisement
as to how players should conduct themselves.

Thanks to all the coaches/mentors with teams and also coaches in Cherryfield and
Hermitage nurseries. Thanks also to Paul McLoughlin and Brian O’Regan for all
their help throughout the year. Appreciation to all the Committee members for
their work throughout the year.
TEAM REPORTS
HERMITAGE NURSERY
Eimear Ring, Lorna McMullen, Barry Murray, Donal Regan and Kim Doyle
The coaches prepared two teams for the new season. The panels are small and they may
have to join up with the Cherryfield teams. There was a good turn out at the training
sessions. We are grateful to Barry Murray, who is new to the club, for all the work that he
did during the season.
A special thank you to Kim and Lorna for their assistance during the year.
CHERRYFIELD NURSERY
Adeline Coffey, Martin Hamm
Cherryfield U10 Teams
Mentors Loraine Faughnan, Edel Tevlin
The girls born in 1998 separated from the nursery in September 2007. Training initially
continued at Cherryfield but then transferred to Sancta Maria all weather facilities from
9.45 to 11am on Saturday mornings as winter arrived. Danielle Brogan coached the girls
until the summer break.
Edel Tevlin and Loraine Faughnan helped with coaching and became mentors for the A
and B teams for the 2008 season. Terry O’ Neill and Gerry White also helped with
coaching for the latter part of the season. All parents helped with lifts to away matches
and jersey washing throughout the
season. We are very grateful for all this help.
In all, we had 25 registered players divided into 2 panels for the 2 group U10 league. Two
other players have joined our group in September but have not played league matches.
Both teams had a wonderful season, playing 12 league matches in all, 10 wins and two
losses each. There has been a marked improvement in the girls’ skill level throughout the
season.
As this season draws to a close, we continue to train on Saturday mornings at Sancta
Maria. We have now been joined by the girls born in 1998 from the Hermitage nursery.
Both groups will be mixed for the 2009 season at U11 level.
36
U11A Team
Mentors: Pat McKeon, Brid Kamvar, Gerry O’Meara, Raz Prendergast, Pat Stack
The team had a good year finishing fourth in the League. Now training with the team
from Cherryfield, hopefully to field two teams again next year.
U11B Team
Mentors: Roísín Ní Shuilleabhain, Sinead Murphy, Fergus Anderson, Mary
Costello, Gerry White
The U11B team had a terrific 2008. Prior to this year, none of the girls had played any
competitive camogie. We had a panel of 21 committed girls. We played 16 league games
and won 12,..finishing just 2 points behind the eventual winners Naomh Mhearnog.
In the championship we had great victories over Na Fianna and Kilmacud Crokes, before
losing the semi-final to Naomh Mhearnog.
All of the girls deserve great credit for the effort and commitment they showed
throughout the year.
We are now joining up with the U-11A team from Hermitage and will have a mini-league
together before Christmas, and hopefully have enough numbers to field U12A and U12B
teams next year.
U12A team
Mentors: Marie Moffatt, Deirdre O'Dwyer, Michael Aylmer, Terry O'Neill
The U12A team had a very busy season starting with the league in February. The team
finished midtable winning 7 of their 14 games with all games very competitive. The team
had a great championship beating Na Fianna after extra time in the semi final. Our final
was against a very talented Lucan team who prevailed on the day despite a fantastic effort
from our girls.
The girls showed great commitment to training and developing their skills during the year
and the team has a bright future. The U12A and B teams trained as a collective unit
during the year and thanks is due to a great group of parents for their support.
A highlight of the year was the U12s weekend trip to Antrim in April where we played
Ballycastle and enjoyed visiting the Giants Causeway. We also hosted Monageer of
Wexford in August.
37
U12B Team
Mentors: Michéal Bryson, Karen Featherstone, Orla Mullaney, John O’Hanlon, Tom
Page, Gerry White
The Team performed well in the league and we finished with 20 points putting us in 4th
position, having played 15 and won 10. Following last year’s win at U11 B we did very
well again this year in the Championship eventually beating Whitehall Colmcille in a
hard fought final, with our captain Doireann Mullaney named as player of the match.
The U-12 A and B teams trained collectively as one group and the players have made
great progress during the year. In addition to the league and Championship, the U-12s
travelled to Ballycastle in Antrim for a weekend in April and also hosted Monageer from
Wexford at the end of August.
We started the year with a panel of 24 players, but for a variety of reasons, including
match and training times clashing with other activities, our panel number diminished to
19 by mid March. The team struggled to field a full team from week to week and would
not have done so without playing up U11 and U10 players. As we progressed in the
Championship our training attendance and team availability for matches improved, which
I believe demonstrates that success creates a desire to belong to a team and strengthens
the individual team member’s commitment to the team. If we wish to continue with a two
team policy we will need to address the issue of County Board not permitting any
flexibility of allowing fringe A players play on B teams .
U13 Team
Mentors: Robbie Lambert, Aoife Hughes, John O'Toole
Hermitage & Cherryfield teams combined at the start of this season as both were
struggling with numbers. The year began with a panel of 27 players, but has now gone
down to just 19. With only 4 other teams in the division, the girls got on well having their
first win over St. Vincents in the league. Commitment levels were high throughout the
year at both training & in matches. Not once would they give up the fight during a match
& always left the pitch smiling. Their determination in the semi-final over Oliver
Plunkett's sent them into the final were, unfortunately, they were beaten by Lucan.
Getting to the final was a great accomplishment for the girls & well deserved. For some it
is their first Championship medal. Well done to all involved. Many thanks to the parents
who have given their support throughout the year. With the Feile coming, 2008-2009 will
undoubtedly be another great year for the team.
U14 Team
Mentors: Gerry O’Sullivan, John Ryan, Ken Giles, Fiona Ní Shúilleabháin, Ciara Scallan
The Under 14 team had a mixed year with the high point being reaching the semi finals of
the Dublin Féile na nGael where the team performed creditably before going down to the
eventual All-Ireland champions Lucan Sarsfields. The team had league wins over Erins
Isle, Naomh Fionnbarra and Kilmacud Crokes and defeats to Lucan Sarsfields, Kilmacud
Crokes, St. Oliver Plunketts and St Vincents. In the championship, a weakened team
38
went down to Lucan Sarsfields. The team also participated in the Summer League with
the Under 13 team. The team also attended a National Hurling League game in Nowlan
Park and played Dicksboro in a challenge game.
The commitment of a number of players to the club and the game is not what it should be
but hopefully this will improve in the years ahead.
The team management would like to thank Robert Lambert, Aoife Hughes, John O’Toole
and the players from the U13 squad for their great support during the year. The regular
assistance of Bill and Anne Doyle, Tom and Mary Sexton, Angela Ryan and Sheila Giles
is acknowledged.
The team enjoyed a very successful trip to St John’s Belfast in February and hosted a
reciprocal visit in October. A fund-raising event with the HEE BEE BEE GEES was a
great success. Many thanks to Ken Giles for his support.
U15 Team
Mentors: Sinead McNeela, Jane Hogan & Tricia Cantwell
During the winter season, we trained in Sancta Maria on the all weather pitch, and
heading into the league season we saw the fruits of the winter season training.
We competed in all our league games, and finished forth in our league table. In the
championship, we reached the quarter finals and were beaten by our rivals Na Fianna.
Many thanks to all the girls for their commitment and I complement them on their
progress made throughout the season. Also, we are very grateful to the U14 management
who allowed girls to sub up to assist us on a many an occasion, particularly Alyson Doyle
& Amy Ryan.
Congrats to Sheena Garvey, Emma Doyle, Dianaimh Greene and Ciara Ruddy who
represented Dublin during the year.
Our much appreciation is also shown to the parents of the team who provided transport,
established fundraising activities for the team and that all important encouragement on the
slide lines. Also to the parents who assisted with nets and flagging the pitch – many
thanks. To Gerry Cantwell, thanks for the post match reports.
Finally many thanks to Tricia Cantwell for arranging the phone calls, texts, washing the
jerseys etc, without her services, we could not have kept the team ticking over!
We wish all the best to Jane & Darragh who, in March 2009 plan to tie the knot.
The girls have made significant process during the season and we are all looking forward
to the 2007/2008 season.
U16 Team
Mentors: Sinead McNeela & Tricia Cantwell
39
Following much deliberation at the start of the season, we decided that we would enter
the U16 league. While we had 15 players on paper, effectively this team had 10 players
and were hugely supported by the U15 team in ensuring that we could field a team each
week. For that I say a big thank you to the U15 team. The girls trained with the U15
squad an benefited from focused training and have improved during the year. Again
thanks to Tricia Cantwell who ensured that the gear was there at training, the jerseys
washed etc.
Congrats to Aisling Keane, Ciara Donavan & Lauren Edward who represented Dublin
during the year.
This team will move forward to Adult Camogie for the 2009 season.
Intermediate Team
Mentors: Patricia Higgins and Pádraig Ó Duibhir.
2008 was a reasonably successful year for the Intermediate team that secured runner-up
position in the League and were defeated in the Championship semi-final. This was
achieved through generally well attended training sessions and the development of a very
good team spirit. The return to competitive action of our experienced captain Irene
Kirwan and other experienced players contributed greatly to this. The commitment shown
by the players was excellent as was their growing skill as the year progressed. Many
matches were close affairs that were won by narrow margins that illustrated the
determination of the team.
The support of under 16’s who helped us field a team during exams, holidays and other
times of need was greatly appreciated. Our thanks go to Sinéad McNeela, Under 16
mentor, for her support in organising under 16 players to sub-up.
We would also like to thank the parents in general and John Burns in particular for their
continued support.
Senior B Team
Mentors: Martin Donohue, Jane Hogan
We started the Season with 35 players registered at this grade. 4 of these were brought up
to the A panel from the start of the season and 2 on the list never attended. Throughout
the year we gained 3 more players but lost another 9 through injury & travelling but we
always had a very healthy panel for all games. This was a huge change from last year
when we struggled to field a team on a number of occasions. The girls have put in a huge
effort this year and there is a great team spirit. We finished middle of the table in the
league and although we didn’t make it out of our group for the championship we were
automatically then entered into the shield competition. After a long season, which started
with training in February and after a lot of dedication by the girls, on Oct 22nd we won the
40
Senior B Shield beating Thomas Davis in the final. This is a brilliant achievement by the
girls, as every team we met this year was the first or ‘A’ team in their club. We hope to
build on this success next year and hope all of the girls will be back again to achieve this.
We would like to say a very special thank you to Pádraig Ó Duibhir & Trish Higgins
from the intermediate team management & the 3 girls Irene Kirwin, Siobhán O’Dwyer &
Eimear Ring who helped us out hugely in our shield success. Also, during the year Martin
was unable to train the girls for a number of weeks due to an accident at work and during
this time we had a lot of people give us ‘a dig out’ for training sessions – Mick Glynn,
Don O’Neill, John Ryan, Ciarán Maguire, Darragh Spain & Paul Daly. We would
sincerely like to thank them for their time and to let them know that we really appreciate
it.
Finally from all the players & management of the Senior B team we say a huge
congratulations to the Senior A team on their brilliant achievement of winning both the
Dublin and Leinster titles. Well done!!
Senior A Team
This panel of players earned every victory that came their way this year. 51 weeks of
training at 3 nights a week has brought the Open Cup and the Senior Championship back
to the club again. More importantly, this level of work and committment from the players
has delivered the Leinster Club title to Ballyboden for the first time in our history. We are
also the first Dublin club to have won this title in the 15 a side game, which makes me
very proud.
The panel of players and management travelled to Limerick on a tough training weekend
during the year. This was a very beneficial exercise for us and we reaped the rewards at
the end of the season.
None of this could happen without the help of many people.
- Paddy Walsh and the Club Executive for their support throughout the year.
- Sinead McNeela and the Camogie Committee for their ongoing guidance, support and
encouragement
- Noel Sheridan for his great help all season
- To Danny Griffin a huge thank you for all his effort and support with sponsorship
throughout the campaign. Nothing was ever too much.
- The Ladies Football Committee without whose help and support we could not succeed.
- Martin Masterson for the very successful early training sessions in Knocklyon School.
- Dermot Hughes and Paddy Conway for putting up nets and flags for home matches.
- Donal and Cathal Reagan for their help all year.
41
- Paddy Brady for the fabulous meals provided after matches.
- Bernard Curtis for his assistance on match days.
- To the fantastic water girls - Hannah Hyland, Aisling O' Leary and Emer O' Leary
- Nancy Donghue,Mary Keaney, Enda Hughes, Nuala O' Sullivan and Caitriona O' Leary
for their help throughout the year.
- Hammi our fantastic physio. Thank you for all your support and help both on and off the
pitch.
- I would like to thank Ciara Hayes and John Dineen for their friendship, hard work and
committment over the last year.
The final word must go to the players. What a fantastic year. This panel of players were a
delight to work with. Their level of committment and comradeship is second to none.
They were led by an outstanding captain in Roisin Keaney. Her belief and enthusiasm
was contagious and spurred the team on all season. Within this magnificent team we had
a nominated All Star and Club player of the year, Rachel Ruddy.
Finally, on behalf of the management team, I would like to thank the girls for everything
and wish them and future management all the best in 2009.

TEAM REPORTS FOR 2008
Nursery
Nursery is developing well with Brian O’Regan and Paul McLoughlin’s new planned
structure, with a weekly attendance of approximately 65 to 70 children. All girls in the
newly formed Academy get to experience both football and camogie and the feedback
from both the girls and the parents has been very positive.
U 10 Div 1 and U 11 Div 3
Mick Higgins, Tom Ball, Pat Conway and Mike Fitzpatrick.
We started out the year with 38 girls registered at under 10 level and 6 or 7 girls for the
under 11 team. Basically to try and ensure that all the girls got the opportunity to play
football we decided that we would try and mix the under 10’s with the under 11’s to make
up a team as the under 11 girls would not have been getting any football.
Practically all of the under 10 girls played under 11 at some stage during the year. The
girls trained every Thursday in Sancta Maria with just a few days missed due to holidays
and horrific weather. When there were no games on a Saturday the girls also trained. In
all we often had up to 46 girls training and once actually had 54 girls. This is not
sustainable and there will have to be a change for the coming year whereby there will be
enough girls at under 11 to put out 2 teams.
Through the great work of Mick Higgins, Mike Fitzpatrick and yes, Barry Coll I expect
that there will be enough girls to make a Div 3 under 12 team for next season.
One big issue facing us next season will be the need for more parental help and someone
to take on the organizing of the second team. We expect to field 2 teams at U11 next
season along with an U12 Div 3 team. We cannot continue to train and coach so many
girls when there are so few of us. We certainly need some parents to take a more direct
involvement as it is far from ideal and not permissible to continue without a woman or
older girl involved. It would be remit of us not to mention Ursula Gillespie who rarely
43
missed a session when it would have been easier to stay at home by the fire. Also, Nuala
McGuinness, Caitriona O’Leary and Edel Tevlin for their assistance during the year. I
never before met people so keen to wash jerseys.
U 10
This was the girls first year in competitive football. They also finished third in their
league winning 4 games, losing 3 and drawing 1. This was a great result as we rarely
fielded the same team for consecutive games as a result of the combination with the under
11 Div 3 team. This team made it to the championship final after some great performance
against Clontarf and St Sylvester’s. Last Saturday they came up against a superb Foxrock/
Cabinteely team in the final when after a great game in atrocious conditions they were
beaten by 4-10 to 1-1. A scoreline that did not do justice to a great bunch of girls. They
are a credit to their parents and the club. Roll on the future.
U 11 Div 3.
Played 10 games winning 5 and losing 5 to finish third in the league. This was a
marvellous performance when one considers how many of this team were actually under
10’s.
This team is in the shield quarter final replay next Saturday 22th November against Scoil
Ui Chonaill after a very exciting draw after extra time in Clontarf last Saturday.
U 11
Thomas Finnegan Sean McGinn & Orla Scollard
2008 has been a good year for the u11 Team. We started of the year with a squad of 30
players which was too many players for 1 team but not enough to make up a full 2nd team.
We amalgamated 8 of our squad with a similar amount from u10 team to form a B team
which played in division 3. This arrangement proved relatively successful, however for
next season we are hoping to recruit some extra players to field a full u11 B team.
We started playing friendly games in early February to insure all girls got plenty of game
time. Although we lost our first league game to the eventual winners Foxrock/Cab we
won the rest of our games to finish runners up.
In the championship we beat Fox/Cab in the first round and progressed to the final at the
expense of St Anne’s in the semi final. The girls but up a brave display to Kilmacud in
the final despite losing our star player Grace Walsh to injury and lost by 4 points in the
end.
We have some more friendly games organized for the coming weeks and are continuing
to add players to the squad. We welcome Orla Scollard from the Senior Team to the
coaching staff who joined us in September. She has proved to be a great asset and has
many years of experience playing senior football. We would welcome some of the
proposed changes proposed at board level if it will facilitate players to get more game
time without the pressure of winning. On behalf of Sean and myself I would like to thank
the Parents who have helped with Lifts to games, setting up pitches and provided
refreshments for visiting teams from Kildare and Wicklow.
44
U 12
Mick Aylmer, Ciaran Colclough, Fergus Lowe, Michael Gillen, Dave McFetridge,
Martin McGlynn
First things first; the reason we have such a large team of mentors is that we have, on
average, 50 girls training every Thursday night (hail, rain, sleet and snow!) and so we ran
two teams for the 2008 season.
The remainder of this part will concern the u12A’s, but it is important to recognise that
they are all one large panel.
The season started out with two outstanding league games from the 2007 season having to
be played in February 2008 against Na Fianna. Up until we played them, Na Fianna was
the only unbeaten team in Dublin but we managed to beat them home and away, thus
securing a share of the league.
The league itself started in April and we had victories over Foxrock-Cabinteely,
Templogue Synge St, Naomh Barrog and Kilmacud Crokes. The latter game was played
out in Kilmacud and stands out as being the game of the season so far. Despite being
down by 5 points with 7 minutes to go, the girls won on a scoreline of 4-11 to 3-13. Two
terrific teams!
Our only defeat in the league was against Na Fianna.
Indeed against Na Fianna, we noticed something that has followed on to the second half
of the season. Some of the girls on other teams are growing much faster than our girls!
While we have a few tall players, there have been times when it likes playing against an
u14 team. This has been the case particularly against Na Fianna, Templogue Synge St.
and Kilmacud Crokes. Next year, when our girls catch up, we will be fairly confident of
correcting things!
The championship started on 5th October – which was a big pity because here we are,
half through November and we still haven’t finished either the championship or the
league. Not a single competitive u12 match was scheduled for the month of September.
When it did start we were beaten by KMC on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-7. We finished our
season on a positive note last Sunday with a great win over Skerries Harps in the Shield.
They won the U12 League final against Na Fianna.
One of the great rules introduced this year has been unlimited subs. We have used this to
play as many girls as possible, and indeed if the management are to be criticised, it is our
primary objective was to give as many girls as possible a taste of division one football. A
feature of the teams that we have put out all year has been the two or three different girls
that have been brought up, every time, from the u12B team. Without exception, they have
performed as well as anyone. For this we are very grateful to the B team management.
Finally huge thanks to Aileen Ryan and Antoinette Murphy for managing the dressing
rooms!
45
U 12 Div 3
Ciaran Colclough, Fergus Lowe and Martin McGlynn
This team was put together in March 08 by Michael Gillan, Michael Alymers and Ciaran
Colclough. Parents Fergus Lowe and Martin McGlynn joined Ciaran to form the
mentoring team.
Our Aim from day one was that everyone who turned up got to play, while supporting the
A team when required and Vice Versa.
The Girls on this team carried forward the excellent mentoring received by Michael G,
Michael E and Ciaran C and remained part of the one squad in all but Division status.
Training has been excellent. Fun and friendship in the squad has been the highlight of the
season, and the Girls had a great 1st season on the field of competition. Parent support
steadily grew throughout the season.
Our adventure began on 6.4.08 against Foxrock/Cabinteely B and after a close first half
our girls had a 5-9 to 1-1 victory.
We won our next 4 games and clinched the league title with a great win over Lucan
Sarsfields by 2-10 to 0-2. Children got a great boost in confidence and were delighted.
We commenced the Championship on 5.10.8 with a good win over Cuala B. Next up was
the league runners-up Thomas Davis and we won 2-4 to 0-1. Next was the semi final V
Fingallians. Game played during mid term break. Had a few key players missing. Game
was competitive and we gave it our all. Lost 5-7 to 4-4.
We had 9 girls on the line that day (some only joined recently) but everyone got to play a
part.
U 13
The U/13 team played 7 games in this year’s league winning all of them, many thanks to
Bernard, Philip and Rita for their help over the last 2 years.
Murial Falconer
Last Sunday we completed the double in a keenly contested final against Kilmacud
Crokes. We would like to thank all the parents and the executive committee who have
given help through the season and wish all the teams the very best for the future.

Robbie Murphy, Eugene Duffy, Sean Crowley and Sorcha Farrelly.
It has been a fantastic year for the ladies under 14A team having just last Sunday
achieved the treble of Feile, Division 1 League and Championship.
A lot of hard work went into Feile preparation and they were rewarded with qualification
for Leinster and All Ireland Feile participation.
Both proved great experience, with the girls winning a number of games but being pipped
at the quarter final stages.
Every panel player got to play full Feile games in all 3 Feile competitions. This helped us
achieve the whole purpose of Feile which is participation.
46
The experience of the Feile competition was fantastic and our host team, Donaghmoyne
were really great. The management team would like to express our thanks to the members
of our Ladies Football Committee, in particular Pat and the U13 team management for all
their help and co-operation. We had great support from all areas of the club and would
like to take this opportunity to express our thanks.
We gained two new members of the management team with Sean Crowley coming back
to us and Sorcha Farrelly joining us despite a hectic schedule of her own. They have been
very welcome and proven to be a great addition to the team. It has also been a very busy
year on the fund raising side. We would like to particularly mention Ger Keane and her
team as well as Yvonne Murphy, all of whom took a considerable amount of work away
from Eugene and I. The parents came up trumps as well with a lot of personal and
corporate sponsorship. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them all.
We have had a number of successful Inter County players Maeve Scully, Sally Jones,
Sarah Burns and of course the Dublin captain, Clare King. The team has grown in many
ways and they have learned the importance of being able to win and loose. The girls have
been magnificent in both and I know I speak for all of the management and parents in
saying we really proud of them.
We have been together as a team a long time now and we have gained new members
along the way as well a losing a few. It is our aim to bring these girls all the way to adult
football so they can continue the proud tradition of the club. We hope continue building
on the success and traditions of Ballyboden St Endas.

Well done to a large panel of girls who have shown outstanding dedication to training and
preparation in recent months. Victories since September over Croi Ró Naofa, St. Brigids,
Na Fianna (twice) and Scoil Uí Chonail in league and championship have brought the
girls to the championship final V. St. Brigids. Result: they lost the final by a goal.
The benefits of mixing training and having competitive challenges with the minor panel
have improved confidence and skill levels.
A number of the girls have made a significant impact at minor club level namely Alice
Gillen, Elaine McGrath, Ciara Ruddy, Jenny Ward, Megan Carney, Sarah O Brien,
Michelle O Reilly, Aisling Keane and Ciara Donovan.
Thanks to the Ladies Football Committee for all their hard work this year to Declan O
Reilly, Seamie O Neill, and Vincent Carney for their support in team preparation. Thanks
also to parents Joe Clancy, Brendan O Brien, Emer Donovan and Michael Gillen during
matches. Thanks to Finan Hyland, Ger Basquel, Pat McGrath (Minor Mentors). Thanks to
Robbie Murphy and Eugene Duffy (U.14 Mentors) for their support. Thanks and
congratulations to the parents and especially the players.

Training started last February in preparation for the league with a panel of 21 players, not
including any of the under 16 players, we now finish with a panel of 14 players. Going
forward we will loose 5 players who will be all outside the age and so we wish them the
best of luck as they are now concentrating on adult football. In competition we finished
second in the league to Foxrock/Cabinteely and we will meet them again in the
championship final in mid November. Four of our girls played with the Dublin minor
team this season Natalie Hyland, Rachel Nugent, Paula McGrath and Rosin Ryan with
both Rachel and Natalie on the successful all Ireland winning team, congratulations to
you all on bringing this honour to our club. Thanks to Pat and Gerry for all there help and
encouragement through out the year also to Louise Kelly, Karl Young and Declan O
Reilly who helped out when asked. Thanks for all the cooperation throughout the year to
the under 16 management team of Derek Ward, Seamus O Neill and Pat McGrath whose
girls are such an important part of the minor squad and best of luck to you in your
championship. They played and drew with Foxrock-Cabinteely and are awaiting the date
of the replay. Best of Luck.
Senior B
Mark Magahran Liam Walsh
The year got off to a great start when we won the Tracey Staunton Shield competition
held in Clann na Gael in February.
This season we played in Division 3 and the Junior championship.
We finished the season in 4th place in the league and cup and were knocked out of the
Championship by the eventual winners of the competition St. Marks.
Many thanks to Management of the Senior A team Martin Masterson and Brain O’Regan
and Finnan Hyland and Pat McGrath of the minor management team for their help during
the season with regards to players and training seasons as there were a number of changes
to the squad with some players from last year being promoted onto the senior A panel.
It was encouraging to see the talent of the younger players playing at adult level this
season.
A special thanks to Liam Walsh who came on board this year as a mentor and coach.
Thanks also to Fearghal Brennan, Pat Mc Grath and Kevin Cahill for their help on match
days and to Noel Sheridan and the other club officials for their help and support
We would like to the committee for all its efforts this season and wish all our girls and
teams the very best for the 2009 season.

Senior A
Martin Masterson, Brian O’Regan, Bobby O’Sullivan, Declan O’Reilly and Vevian
Ruddy,
It was a mixed year for this team. After qualifying top of our group in the Dublin
Championship we beat Fingallians in the semi-final to set up a County Final appearance
against Na Fianna. In what was a great display by the team and probably the team’s best
performance all year, we ran out winners by a score line of 3-14 to 11pts to claim the
clubs 9th Championship victory in a row.
The Leinster championship started with a comprehensive win over St. Forchairns of
Carlow. Unfortunately we lost on our next outing to Laoise champions Mountmellick
Sarsfields down in Mountmellick. At the time of writing we have one game remaining in
the League and have already won the Cup competition.
I would like to thank Bobby, Declan and Brian for their help throughout the year. I’d also
like to thank our backroom team of Hammy, Vivian Ruddy, Pat Nash, Lily Farrelly and
Tonya Allen.
Also thanks to Pat Mc Grath and the Ladies Football Committee for their huge support
during the year.
One of our concerns for the year was the late cancellation of a lot of our cup and league
matches which mostly happened to be home games for us.

It is coming to the end of another successful year in the Ladies Football Section.
We have 94 girls in the new Academy, 185 juvenile players registered an 43 adult players
Teams
Our U10’s and U11’s went down to Fox/Cab and Kilmacud Crokes respectively in their
Finals last weekend.
49
Our second U11 team are still in the Shield with a replay with Scoil Ui Chonaill this
weekend.
The U12’s with about 50 girls on the books, won the U12 Shield last weekend and a
fantastic achievement by our second team being unbeaten to win the League.
We had our U13 girls winning the Championship and League at this age group for the
first time and our U14 Team won the treble for the second year in a row.
Feile
We applied for and were given the opportunity to host Feile for the 2nd year running. This
was to give our U14 team the best opportunity to qualify for National Feile and they duly
obliged with a great win over Ballinteer (by 3 points) in the semi-final and St Brigids in
the final. We had a great weekend at National feile where Donaghmoyne were excellent
hosts. After 2 good wins against the Hosts and Dromgoon. we went down by the
narrowest of margins to a very good Mountmellick team. Both parents and the girls had
and an unforgettable weekend making many new friends in the process.
Our U16 team is in the Final next weekend against St. Brigids and our U18 Team is to
play a replayed Final on Sunday week after a great drawn game against Fox/Cab. 1 -14
each.
Our Senior B team finished 4th in the League and at group stage in the Championship.
It is a measure of the achievements of our Senior A team that winning our 9 th County title
in a now seen as a disappointment as we lost at the Leinster Semi Final stage.
It would not be possible to be as successful without the help and support of a great many
people. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to everyone who
helps to make this section the success it is today. We are building on what Bill Daly
founded in 1993 and continued by Barry Coll until last year.
Managers
I would like to thank all Managers and Mentors for all their work during the year
None of the success would be possible without the commitment, time and dedication of to
managers, selectors, coaches both past and current.
Coaching
It s very important to develop the skill levels from a young age and build on them year on
year. We are very fortunate to have Brian O Regan and Paul McLouglin available to us.
Their work with the Nursery and now the Academy are the building blocks of the future.
We are very fortunate to have some of the best coaches coaching our children and are
indeed the envy of other sections of the club. We appreciate these talented people. The
skill level in some of the games we participated in over the weekend was a pleasure to
watch?
I would like to thank once again all the coaches past and present for their contribution to
the development of players
I would like to wish PJ O Donoghue, Brian and Paul continued success with the Summer
Camps as these are often the children’s first introduction to the club.
50
Thanks too to the co-operation on the other sections, in particular at Feile, where other
sections moved their games to free up Cherryfield and Pairc Ui Murchu. Thanks also to
Sinead who cancelled a weekend away for her U16 camogie to facilitate our U16
Championship bid. It is this sort of co-operation which engenders club spirit as mentioned
in the recent club strategic review.
The co-operation between our own Managers and Mentors at all levels has ensured we
fulfilled all our fixtures and gives up the best possible chance of Championship success at
the older age groups.
Fund Raising
Running teams and associated facilities cost money. Many thanks to all who helped
during the year, selling tickets for the raffle, Claire Butterly and her team for the quiz
night and all the sponsors of whom we are eternally grateful.
The Christmas Raffle made
€4,900
The Quiz night
€2,700
F Hyland
€4,000
I would also like to thank the U13 and U14 feile fund raising committees for their great
work.
Schools
Thanks to Brian and Paul for the work they do in the schools and to Bill Daly St Pats, and
Barry Coll in Loretto for their coaching expertise and the huge no of girls they supply to
the club. The very best of luck to St Colmcilles in their Cumann Na mBun Scoil final in
the 1st week in Dec in Croke Park.
Thanks to Santa Maria and St Colmcilles Community School for promoting Ladies
Football, as 1st Year is a big fall off time in schools that don’t promote Ladies Football.
To the new Co Board executive, well done on transforming the fixture schedule and the
excellent new web site which keeps us all up to date on the Leagues and Championships.
Well done to all our girls who represented us at Inter Co. level
Congratulations to Natalia Hyland and Rachel Nugent on All-Ireland and Leinster Minor
medals. Congratulations also to Noelle Conym, Natalia, Hyland, Karen Hopkins and
Edel Drury for their Leinster success.
Well done to Clare King on captaining the U14 Dublin team.
To Ned and the bar staff for all their help, Mark and Declan O Brien for photo’s at
matches and the presentation night. To Gerry our PRO for his excellent work on the
website, which is always up to date.
To Paddy and his executive for the great help during the year and to Noel who is always
so helpful. And finally to our own committee, thanks very much for all your help, its been
a pleasure to work with you.

ACADEMY FOOTBALL/HURLING (Pairc Ui Mhurchu & Hermitage&
Ballycullen) Boys Born 2002/2001/ 2000.
Head Coaches:- Paul McLoughlin, Brian O’Regan
The new Academy structure started in September. So far it has been running very well
and the new structure sees all the boys taking part in both football and hurling.
Boy’s Gaelic football/hurling at Pairc Ui Mhurchu is progressing well. The beginners
group born in 2002 has approx 90 children registered and 20 Coaches. We have had a
great response from the parents of this new group, who have come together to organize
and take on the running of the U7 boys. Their help is very much appreciated. The 2001
group have 70 children registered with 12 coaches who are very experienced and continue
to give excellent support every week. The 2000 group have approx 70 children registered
and are based in Sancta Maria. Most of the boys are dual players with approx 40 boys
playing hurling (with approx 9 coaches) and approx 60 playing football (with approx 10
coaches). They are preparing for the start of matches next year and are currently shaping
together a very promising panel of players in both codes.
The Hermitage academy has consistently 50-60 boys playing football every Saturday with
on average 6 coaches who keep the Academy running. The hurling Academy has approx
25 to 30 boys participating each Saturday. The Hermitage Academy is run very well by a
number of main coaches every year, many of whom can often be ignored and are not
properly recognised for the contribution they make to the club and the development of our
young players. Their work is very much appreciated by those who know.
We started a new Academy up in Knocklyon Park (Ballycullen) in September.
The Academy is also being assisted greatly by a number of current juvenile and minor
players.
52
The format of the coaching involves 7 stations set up, which the boys who are in groups
of 10-12, with 2 coaches per group, rotate around every 10 mins. The stations incorporate
Fundamentals stations, Skill Stations, Fun Game stations, Skill Games stations and Match
stations.
Thanks to the juvenile committee and to John Ryan for their support and encouragement
in 2008. They are regulars at the Academy every weekend and are of huge assistance
whenever required.
The mentors night was a great success, enjoyed by all and is an invaluable date in the club
calendar. Thanks to all involved in its organization.
Notes
 The running of a Registration Night for the parents of all Academy players this
year was a great success and an opportunity to meet parents, introduce them to the
club and deal with any queries.

It has become an unwritten policy that all Academy Coaches must complete the
Foundation Level Course before they leave the Academy and out of our 90-100
current academy coaches, approx 80% of them have completed the course.

Equipment for there the Academy is fine at the moment, and we have been helped
out with sponsorship from a couple of the coaches.

Again space is an issue every Saturday morning, but the main problem is the lack
of use of a hall or the all- weather facilities. If these facilities were available we
would not have to cancel the academy when the pitches are closed.
A special thank you goes to Eoin O’Riordan, U9 Football mentor & coach. Eoin through
his employer, Leahy & Co Chartered Accountants, very generously sponsored the
purchase of coaches tops for our 100 or so coaches, as means of recognising them when
training is on. We are very grateful to Eoin for this support.
Overall the Academy is doing very well with over 300 Boys registered to play both
football & hurling and approx 60 coaches helping out with the boy’s academy, but most
of all the players are receiving quality coaching and the feedback is that Clubs Academies
are very enjoyable and well run.

This was an interesting and successful year, being our first year of formal fixtures.
The experience of playing different clubs together with large turn out at training has
improved the standard of football across the board. We have large number of players,
who would further improve if we had use of the full pitch for training on Monday nights.
53
The children are showing a positive attitude and overall numbers increased over the year.
We hosted a successful blitz and travelled to Fingallians for a friendly over the summer.
The number of parents involved has improved over the year and we are actively
encouraging more parental involvement next year.
Thanks to everyone for their involvement, particularily Tom McGrath for stepping in
when needed.

We are coming to the end of another football season. Our success
continues to be measured in terms of playing numbers with 5 Go-Games
teams compared to 4 when we were U-9. This is a credit to the various mentors
involved who give their time and enthusiasm each week.
The only difficulty encountered during the year was in the area of
our mixed ability teams (which was Club policy) playing streamed teams (per
Board policy) in other clubs. We have just had to manage the situation
on a match by match basis.
We defended the Golly Murray Cup (won by last year's U10s) in Lurgan
in September. Against 15 other clubs, all from the North, we
finished a very credible third. I would like to thank the U11 Mentors, in
particular Donal Monaghan and Martin Murphy, for their considerable
help in our participation in this competition. Thanks also to the
U10 hurling mentors with whom we have worked very well during the year
to ensure that players get as many games as possible in both codes.

General
The under 11 football group continues to operate with approximately 70 players with
about 55 regularly playing on Saturday morning. The other boys are generally available
when competing activities are idle! Training on the astro or on grass is well attended by in
excess of 60 players. This year there is one double team playing in Division 1(BBSE1A
& 1B) and two single teams (BBSE 2 and 3) playing in Division 1 for single teams. The
teams are graded with 1A being the strongest and 1B the weakest and BBSE 2 and BBSE
54
3 in between. Despite some reservations earlier by the mentors, the grading has worked
well with all teams participating in competitive games. More importantly all of the
players are playing competitively. In June with the help of a few parents approximately
70 players were brought to Croke Park for a Leinster championship match featuring
Dublin. Surprisingly it was the first visit to Croker for a few boys! Since the summer
break a number of the teams have experienced unavailability of players due to fixture
clashes with soccer matches. Despite this, the group has a good working relationship with
Knocklyon United.
BBSE U11 – 1A Team Report
Initially for the 2008 season we were not streaming players. As the season progressed we
streamed all players, thus providing a good solid squad to work with. Although we have 4
players whose first playing choice is soccer (Knocklyon United), they still train with us
and are eager to make matches. This is not possible at the moment due to timing of both.
We played very well in the cup (2 Team) - which we went on to win. We are playing
very well in the league, having only lost one match to date with 2 matches remaining. The
squad has 3 players who have competed at Leinster and All Ireland level in the 100m
sprint relay.
BBSE U11 – 1B Team Report
The Ballyboden 1B team has had a very competitive season winning many games and
supplying promising talent to other teams in the group. We had 19 players at the start of
the season but lost 5 players due to them being upgraded. We didn’t loose any due to
soccer. The standard varies quite a bit between players, but over all the standard has
improved. Our results have varied, we won about 50% of our matches, and even in the
ones we lost there was only 1 or 2 points in it.
For training we get about 11/12 per training night, for matches we usually get between
12/14 which is very good for our small group. Consistent performers include Seán Ó
Cremín, John Byrne and David Leach.
On the training front we as mentors should look at new ways of training, perhaps using
the close season to look at new methods and get some expertise in to assist with this. Also
would like to see more focus on the weaker end of things.
Overall it has being a very successful year with the player’s football skills coming on
greatly. Above all participation and enjoyment are key to the team's spirit.
BBSE U11 – 2 Team Report
By any standards we had a very successful year, unbeaten in first half of the year and
contributing greatly to BBSE U11 winning the two team cup. There were many changes
in the second half of the season to the set up of the team. Many players were
upgraded and moved on. The Soccer season started depriving the team on average of 4-5
players. The training sessions were very well attended with on average of 16 players
attending pre and post summer. We had a number of new additions to the team and they
have blended in nicely.
In the second half of the season, the team competed at a high level playing against first
team outfits from the other clubs. This provided the current squad of players with an
insight into skills and effort required to move up to the next level. A number of players
continue to make great strides year on year.
Overall, a big thank you to the parents and children for their continued dedication. We
particularly appreciate the help of the parents, Martin Durkin, Tony Walshe, Eoin
Sweeney, Jimmy Mc Donnell and Paddy Barton.

Suggestions:
1. A universal, standardised training schedule for all U11 teams, which
would allow all mentors and all players to read off the same sheet in terms
of the football skills and strategies to be employed by all BBSE U11
teams. This would allow players to move freely between teams without
major disruption.
2. Advance notice to all mentors if any players are leaving or coming onto
their team
3. A need for an ongoing basic skills session particularly for new players
4. Policy:- No play without gum shield
BBSE U11 – 3 Team Report
The Ballyboden U11 #3 team have had a very good 2008 season so far. We started with a
squad of 19. Attendance for training and games has been very good with more than 15
players attending on a regular basis. There are currently 17 players in the squad as some
players have moved up to higher teams.
The team reached the cup semi-final, where we lost to Ballinteer St Johns #1 team. We
have won the majority of our matches; we do struggle against some #1 team’s from other
clubs that play in our league.
On the day of the Dublin Westmeath match in Croke Park (combined with BBSE #2) we
hosted a challenge at the club against Caulry from Westmeath. Caulry had a combined
U11/U12 squad, while we lost out in the match a great time was had and lessons were
learned.
We entered the summer league and won 3 out of 4 games. In the main, the summer league
team was based on the #3 team, and players from all four U11 teams were used in this
league, which was very worthwhile. We plan to enter a team in the U12 summer league
for next year.
The #3 team has a great team spirit and there are a number of players that should be
pushing for the A and B squads next year.
Final Note.
The group would like to thank other club volunteers who have assisted us during 2008,
namely Pat Drohan, John Archbold, Vincent Carney and Noel Sheridan.

Ballyboden under 12 A footballers won the South Dublin Cup in June beating
Kilmacud Crokes in the final. We are currently unbeaten in the league with
one game to play (against Crokes. They were runners up to Newbridge Sarsfields in
the May Bank holiday Glen Keegan Cup final. They contested the under 13 Kerry Lea
Strand tournament in Tralee going down narrowly to the winners An Ghaeltacht
in the semi-final.
We appreciate the great support and help from all the parents especially: David Bobbett,

This was an encouraging year for the 12B Footballers. We had a panel of between 18/20
boys. The players have a great attitude and were facing down the "Barrel of Defeat" on
many occasions but dug deep to bounce back and get a result. Their is great Camaraderie
amongst the lads.
Our highlight of the Year was the winning of the U12 B Cup Vs Ballyfermot, the Final of
which was played out in Ballyfermot. As everyone knows, nothing comes easy out there.
Though being 4pts down with only 5 minutes to go, we won by 2pts -One of the best
whole-hearted performances ever witnessed.
We have a great relationship with Knocklyon United, who through Niall Lynch has
helped us on numerous occasions by bringing matches forward and changing times of
their games.
We are approx 3rd in the League ,the only heavy defeat occurred was against Cuala
whom are a Div 1 Team. I am confident that the majority of the boys will continue to play
football Next Year. We have a Near 100% turnout for training each week, and along with
that we receive great support from the parents also.
I would also like to acknowledge the assistance given to us by Ger Flaherty on Coaching
and Donal Monaghan on Assistance.

The season started in February. We have a panel of 22 players. A great bunch
of lads involved in a number of sports, 13 playing soccer and 8 hurling.
We have a good working relationship with Peter Fullerton, Knocklyon Utd,
who has moved training times and match times to accommodate, where
possible, our timelines.
The team won the initial grading league and last Saturday beat Kilmacud Crokes
to win a very competitive U13A league. This Saturday, we are going for
the double as we play in the Div.1 championship final in Kiltipper
against a tough Na Fianna side. Result: they won the Championship
Thanks to Brian O Regan and Vivian Ruddy for taking some training
sessions.

The year started of with a restructuring of the U13 teams to facilitate several new joiners
as well as lads coming back from last years U13 squad to play at their own age level. As a
result this years U13B team was made up of a squad many of whom had not played
together before.
Any concerns which we had about this quickly evaporated after our first competitive
outing in the U13 grading leagues in February where we beat St Finians (Swords)
57
comprehensively, amassing a score of 9 goals and 6 points in the process. Subsequent
wins against St Peregrines, Cuala & Thomas Davis, offset by one disappointing defeat to
St Maurs, saw us finish runners up in the Div 6 grading league table.
Promotion to Div 4 followed for the league campaign and the strong performances
continued. We had wins against Na Fianna , Trinity Gaels , St Annes and St Maurs with
only one defeat to St Finians (Swords). We finished top the Div 4 league table.
Championship came along after the summer break and the strong performances were still
there with wins against St Finians (Swords), Na Fianna and Schoil Ui Chonaill to take us
through to the U13B Championship final. At time of writing we are waiting to hear who
our opponents will be in the final on 8th November.
We played several challenge games during the year against Boden U12A’s and U14B’s as
well as Crokes U13B’s.
It has been a great year so far with lots of good football played. Many thanks to the boys
who give their all in every match and training session. Many thanks also to all our parents
who have been wonderfully supportive throughout the year.

There are three teams at U13 level this year and the Juvenile Committee
decided to enter an A team and two equal B teams. This team were promoted
from Div 8 (2nd place) to Div 5 after the gradings. Div 5 proved too strong
however and we could only manage one win and one draw finishing 2nd from
bottom. As a result we entered the U13"D" championship and were beaten by
Div 7 champions Na Dubh Gall in the first round. At time of writing we have
beaten St Brigid's (Div 7) by a point in the shield 1/4 final and the lads
are now eagerly awaiting their semi-final opponents. Despite the league
results, there has always been a high turn-out for training and matches.
Under 14 A Football
Mentors: Jimmy Walsh, Neil Buckingham, Ger Flaherty and Tony McKeown
The team enjoyed a very successful year and have developed very well as a team playing
an attractive brand of football. Eight players are involved in the Dublin Development
Squad this year.

It’s hard to believe that the U14B's are a newly formed team this year, made up of B's and
C's from last year. The lads have gelled well and have shown great commitment since
January 2008. Attendance at both training and matches is excellent. We have had a great
year so far, having won many matches, lost a few and very unfortunate not to make it to
the Feile final. A sincere thanks to the lads for all their hard work and to the parents
showing up at matches in particular. The support has been great. We look forward to
many more years enjoying the game as we do.
U-15A Football
Mentors: Paul Waters, Dave Ryan, Tom Mulany, Pat Murphy
2007–2008 has been a challenging season for the U 15 football “A” team. Our efforts to
regain the Division 1 status we lost last year have been hampered by an inability to
consistently assemble a complete panel due to study commitments and pressure from
other sports. On occasions, we would not have been able to field a team without the help
we received from the U-14 football team who have made players available to us when
needs be. A special thanks must go to Ger Flaherty and Jimmy Walsh.
Our long time coach, Ned Flood, who has guided our team from its earliest days, retired
from the position mid season and the position was taken over by David Ryan. We would
like to take this opportunity to thank Ned and his wife, Nollaig, for their huge
contribution towards the development of this group of players.
In the league, we have managed to maintain a mid table position in Division 2, but face a
challenging series of games in November in our efforts to retain our status. We won our
last 2 games against Clontarf and Erin’s Isle to finish in the top half of the table.
In the Championship, we had a fine away victory over the Division 2 leaders, Erin’s Isle,
only to lose a titanic battle, after extra time, to Clontarf in the quarter final.
Although our season has been up and down a great credit must go to Dave Ryan senior
who co-coaches with Mark Lacey the South Dublin Development Squad.
The players who represented the club on the South Dublin Development squad were
Robbie Mc Daid, Dave Ryan, Alan Flood, Lorcan Mullany, Mark Hiney, Daniel Mc
Guinness and Thomas Mc Grath.
The team would like to thank the parents for all their support and help during the year.

This has proved to be a difficult year for this panel. Despite having had 3 players
promoted to the U15A team at the beginning of the year and a further 1 during the first
half of the season, the team performed admirably in the initial league games in Division
5, winning 6 out of 8 games. There then followed a period of uncertainty in early May
when the Juvenile Committee instructed us to concede the remaining league games
scheduled to the summer break. This action was required in order to provide the U15A
panel with additional members to address what was then envisaged as a ‘temporary’
shortage of player personnel.
Approximately 6 further members of the B squad have played with the A team over the
period to date.
The resumption of the season post summer break has improved our situation somewhat. A
league defeat in the initial game was followed by a quarter final defeat in the “C”
championship. Performances have improved since then and despite the ‘start-stop-start
again’ aspect to the season we are happy to report that we have qualified for the “C”
Shield final to be played on 9th November 2008.
Additionally we accepted an invitation from Thomas Davis GAA club to participate in an
8 team memorial tournament being run over the two weeks either side of the October
bank holiday weekend, losing at the semi final stage.
The mentors and players of the U15B squad would specially like to acknowledge and
thank the mentors and players of the U14 A & B teams who supplemented our numbers
during the season since May and without whom we would have struggled to complete
many of our fixtures.
In addition a special word of thanks is due to John Archbold for his support and
assistance during the season.
U-16 Football team:
Mentors: Noel Basquel, Sean Crowley, Finnian Hyland
This team reached the semi-final of the Championship and lost to St. Vincent’s by 2
points. The team is currently third in a very competitive league. One of the highlights of
the year was a trip to Kerry where 25 members of the panel were hosted by the famous Dr
Crokes club of Killarney on St. Patricks weekend. The team had a very enjoyable time
and had great victories over Dr. Crokes and Austin Stacks of Tralee. Many thanks to Sean
and Katherine Crowley for arranging the trip and Donie Sheahan (Katherine’s father ) for
organising Seamus Moynihan to talk to the players.
U-9 Hurling
Mentors: Tom McGrath, Garrett Delaney, Denis Kelly, Paul Kelly, Gavin
Duff, Ken Creed, Martin Garvey and Fergal Ryan.
After a slow start with recruiting players/mentors......we are slowly
60
gathering momentum following the summer break. Our player numbers are in
the early 40's and we have recruited 3 x new mentors in the last 2 months.
Our player numbers increased due to a) school summer blitz organised by
Brian O’Regan and Paul McLoughlin; and, b) hurling being 'added to the curriculum' in
*St Colmcille's twice a week for the 3rd classes; and, c) 'canvassing'
parents and players during the football training sessions.
As you would expect we have a very mixed bag - ability wise - but
we've got the players to work on.
On the matches front ....Na Fianna and Kilmacud would be ahead of
us.......not a lot between ourselves Cuala and Lucan. We have yet to
play Castleknock. We have played challenges against Portlaoise an Naas
and were found wanting....just not ' tough enough'.
Both the mentors and players have some improving to do!
*
If all Schools were as proactive re hurling as St
Colmcilles....our job would be a lot easier!
U-10 Hurling
Mentors: Des O'Reilly, Mick Kennedy, Tony Mealy, Paul Kelly, Jerry Corcoran,
Andrew Coffey.
Ballyboden had three teams participating in the U10 leagues this year. Leagues at this age
group do not publish league tables. The teams took part in a number of tournaments
during the year including our own Feile in June, and Feiles in Carlow Town and Belfast
(St. Johns). They also played a number of friendly matches away against teams from Naas
and Oilgate Glenbrien in Wexford.
U-11 HURLING
Mentors: Ultan Mac Mathúna, Alyn Deane, Mick Garry and Mark Mellett.
This year saw the Under 11 hurlers enter 3 teams in the Go-Games leagues. The leagues
have gone very well for the teams with the B’s topping the table and looking set to take
honours this year. Unfortunately CCC1 have decided that there is not enough time to play
the Top 4 and Bottom 4 play offs. We had hoped that our A and C teams would be able to
step up in the finishing rounds of the competition. However the A’s are still in with a
chance of medals and we will wait and see.
Training this year took place each Thursday as usual and a good turnout ensured good
sessions each week. The boys who did not show up regularly for training are now
showing the lack of practice and many have fallen behind the lads who have benefitted
from the sessions.
The summer holidays were an enjoyable time as we entered into the Camáint competition
(losing out to eventual winners Fingallians in the semi-final) as well as our summer
61
training along with the Under 10’s. Again, the boys who put it in during July and August
are showing a marked improvement in both skill and application.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Juvenile committee for all of their
work throughout the year. Games administration is not an easy task and the committee is
to be commended for the efficient and effective manner in which they do that most
important work.
U-12 Hurling
Mentors: Declan O’Brien, John Crowley, Paddy MacNamee, Peter Lyons and James
Murray.
Ballyboden under 12 Hurling ran two teams through the year – one playing in Division 1,
the other in Division 3. Both teams performed well in the league in general, but
occasional under par performances yielded mid-table positions.
Trophy success came with victory in Parnell Park on Camaint Finals day when the lads
went one better than their semi-final exit last year. Castleknock and Na Fianna were the
opposition on the day. A tense win against Callan in the final of the club Feile Iomana in
June meant that the under 12’s retained the Kevin Cardiff Cup for the club.
Again very strong parent support this year, with a number of parents regularly umpiring
and doing linesman. This support is very much appreciated.
U-13 Hurling
In 2008 the U-13 Hurlers fielded two teams of equal ability in Division 1 of the league.
The decision not to stream the teams in a league where all other teams were streamed,
meant that all games would be difficult. Nevertheless, both teams acquitted themselves
well, with some really fantastic games against Na Fianna, St.Vincent's and Croke's.
During the summer, in the final of the prestigious P.J. Troy Tournament, the Boden Boys
emerged as winners with a sweet victory over a tough Na Fianna Team.
In the championship the teams, for the first time, were streamed into A and B. The A
Team were unlucky to be beaten in the semi final by Kilmacud Croke's. The B Team,
who played in Division 2, were well beaten by St.Brigid's. It was felt that Division 3 or
Division 4 would have been the more appropriate level for this team.
We finished off the year with tournaments in Kilkenny and Belfast. In Kilkenny we
captured the shield title with a victory over a formidable St.John's Team and in Belfast we
played three great games of hurling.
Thanks to the club and to all the parents of the hurlers who supported us throughout the
year.

U-14 Hurling
Mentors: Ray McKenna, Darragh Spain, John Keegan, Eugene Ronan, Joe Roche
Under 14 hurlers started the year well by winning a tournament which was run over a
number of weekends in Carigeen, Co. Kilkenny. They went on to top their Féile group,
but, unfortunately, were beaten in the Dublin Féile final by Kilmacud Crokes. They are
currently second on the League table, Crokes being on top. Three of the under 14's made
the Dublin Tony Forristal Team i.e. Conor McKeown, Donal Butler and Ben McEntee,
which was a huge achievement. The panel is small, at this stage only 16 actual under 14's,
but it is strengthened hugely by the under 13 hurlers. Many thanks to these guys for their
support. We would be lost without them. The fundraising for the Féile was a huge
success. Many thanks to the committee for all the hard work, in particular Joe Roche.
Also a word of thanks to John Keegan, Eugene McGee and Darragh Spain for their
assistance in organizing everything. And of course the best of luck to Darragh and the
lads on Saturday.
U-15 Hurling
Mentors: Niall Desmond, Paudie O'Neill and Paddy Corrigan
2008 was a frustrating year for this committed group of hurlers. Injuries to several key
players meant that we had to field under strength teams for a number of important games.
A highlight of the year was the 2nd annual Cian Durkin tournament on the May Bank
Holiday weekend. There were noteworthy wins against Mallow and James Stephens
before we were beaten in the final by Douglas of Cork. Many thanks again to the Durkin
family for their generous sponsorship of this great event. In the inaugural Naas U-15
tournament, we reached the semi-finals. We finished in the top four of Div. 1 league.
The season concluded with an overnight stay with our good friends in Douglas where we
were treated to exceptional hospitality. Despite the inclement weather, we played our
best hurling of the year and drew with Douglas in a high scoring game, and a one point
win against Blackrock who are current Cork champions. Special thanks to John
Cummins for all his hard work throughout the year repairing hurleys.
U-16 Hurling
Mentors: John Small, John Ryan, Eoghan Carroll, Mick Garry
First Aid: Mick Ryan
The Highlight of our year was undoubtedly the winning of the U16A hurling
championship beating our local rivals St Judes by 4pts in a thrilling final hosted by St
Maurs in Rush. Feile was our last success against them which made this victory all the
sweeter. Parish rivalry alive and healthy! A substantial factor in the success was the
excellent support we received on the day from all sections in the club.
Over the years this team has travelled the four corners of the country to continually
improve their skills and try to compete against the best. Earlier in the year we participated
in tournaments in James Stephens, Na Piarsaigh and Mallow. We would like to
particularly thank Mallow for the very special welcome extended to us. Over their short
playing career the lads have also benefited from coaching sessions from various high
profile coaches. This year we would like to particularly thank Eamon Ryan (present Cork
63
Ladies football coach) for an excellent session in Mallow and Damien Young (Tipp) for a
focussed goalkeeper session in Ballycullen.
As we pull down the curtains on their juvenile career we have one more big ask of them.
Shortly we will play in the final of the U16A league final and hopefully begin their adult
hurling career having won the double. They won the double. Many of the players are
presently subbing up to Minor A & B and has been very beneficial to their development.
Best of luck to both teams in chasing championship honours.
None of the above would not have been possible without the full support of all parents
and a tireless finance committee chaired by Kevin Geogeghan. The U15 mgt have also
been very supportive of us and of course without John Cummins ( hurley repair) we
would not function.
Thanks one and all for all the support over the last 8 yrs.
Juvenile Board
The Comhairle na nÓg, administers juvenile football and hurling in Dublin through it’s
full-time secretary, Kathleen McPoland, who is based in Parnell Park. Kathleen’s work
has added greatly to the profile of juvenile games. The ‘teething problems’ of the first few
seasons, most notably the difficulty of fielding teams in peak school holiday time, have
arisen again, exacerbated by the terrible weather that followed through from summer to
the present. Many competitions are not complete with very few weeks of playing season
remaining. We would like to thank all of the officers of the Board for their courtesy and
efficiency during the year.
Presentations.
For the last several years, the format of juvenile presentations has been altered to smaller
events for individual teams or particular age groups. We feel that this gives the event
more meaning for all those involved: parents, mentors and, especially, the players. A
sincere word of thanks to all our adult players who have assisted with these presentations.
Discipline.
Once again, it is gratifying and indeed it is a compliment to our mentors, coaches and
players that we can report that there has been very few citings of our players or mentors
for unsporting behaviour at matches during the season. I would ask you all to be
especially vigilant in this area and continue to maintain the very high standards of
behaviour in the coming season.
Board Delegates.
64
Our Board Delegates are our contact between the teams, the Club and the Boards. They
perform one of the most important tasks on behalf of the club. It is essential that they are
kept fully informed at all times of results of matches and any other incidents that may
occur. It is essential that we respect the role of Board Officers who run the leagues to the
best of their abilities and for the good of the players and the games in general. At the
insistence of the Boards, contact between the club and the Boards should only happen
through the Board delegates; otherwise, it can prove very difficult for the Boards or the
club to know what exactly is happening in any particular situation. I would like to thank
most sincerely our Board delegates: Pat Drohan, Dave Harford and John Lennon for their
attendance at the Board meetings during the past 12 months and for their representation of
the interests of the club at those meetings.
Appreciations.
The work of the Juvenile Committee would not be possible without the help of many
people and we extend our thanks to:
Paddy Walsh and the Executive Committee for their superb support,
Brian O’Regan, Paul McLoughlin, P.J. Donohoe et al
Noel Sheridan,
All juvenile mentors,
Ned Slattery and the bar staff,

Our thanks is also extended to Scoil Treasa, St. Mary’s BNS, Colaiste Eanna and St.
Colmcille’s Community School for providing the use of their pitches and to all our local
schools and their teachers for promoting and fostering our national games and for their
assistance in the running of our club.

General Manager/Development Committee Report
In addition to his work on the development front, Noel also performs a myriad of other
tasks for the Club such as compiling the fixtures lists each week, allocated pitches as
needed, assisted Ned Slattery and Tony Wallace in the Bar area. He was also a tower of
strength and wisdom when needed in all other areas of the Club when difficulties arise.
His courtesy, availability and helpfulness were commented on at each of the section

Ballycullen
We have received planning permission to build 5 dressing rooms. We have been allocated
a Grant from the Department of Arts, Sports and Tourism for €250,000.00.
Negotiations are currently taking place with the South Dublin County Council
Engineering Department re the Bothar Bye pipeline which will run adjacent to the
dressing rooms. Buildings will not commence until agreement has been reached
Sancta Maria All Weather Pitch (140x81metres)
Major works are now completed at the time of writing this. Dug-outs, uprights and terrace
fencing will be installed next week.
66
Sancta Maria Prunty Pitch (138x86 metres)
The pitch will be playable from March 09. It is at present used by the Juvenile Section
saturday mornings using temporary goal-posts. A new palisade fence will be erected on
the school side of the pitch which will clearly define our border with Sancta Maria
College. An alankey type of fence will be erected on road side of pitch and along the
new entrance road side. A palisade fence will be erected inside the entrance gate defining
our right of way area from the Glen housing estate.
Sancta Maria Dressing Rooms:
Whilst we await the decision of the members to build dressing rooms, we have received a
provisional Lotto grant from the Dept of Arts, Sports and Tourism of €350,000.00. We
have also received planning permission to build 3 changing rooms,2 referees rooms with
ancillary toilets, showers and storage together with converting the single storey building
into 3 changing rooms with showers and toilets.
We have also received projected costs in the amount of €380,000.00 inclusive of VAT but
not including Fee charges and other costs which may be incurred as a result of
archaeological testing requested as part of the planning permission conditional.
We are currently making available dressing rooms and toilets in present buildings until
the new ones are built.
Pairc Ui Mhurchu
We are currently looking to extend an area behind the Ladies dressing rooms to include 2
new dressing rooms. We have requested costs from builders interested in developing this
area.
Saplings School and other premises at Sancta Maria:
Negotiations are currently taking place to
(1) To increase the rent per year for the convent house.
(2) To rent /lease 2 rooms opposite the gym.
Allocation of pitches-Noel Sheridan
Once again the arrangements for the allocation of pitches worked very well with very few
disagreements between sections or teams. Noel organised a weekly list showing all the
matches due to be played each week so that members knew at a glance where all teams
were playing. Noel drew up a schedule for the use of the all-weather hockey pitch.
67
Céilithe
This was a good year for the ceili’s. They are held on the first Saturday of the month and
the set dancing classes are held every Wednesday, except for the summer months. Many
thanks, to Ann O’Donnell for calling the sets and taking the classes in her usual efficient
and professional manner. Many thanks to all our team who helped during the year,
Tommy O Brien, Dan Browne, Joe Purcell, Gerry Hogan, Barry Hynes and also to all the
ladies who helped in the kitchen with the teas, Eileen O’Brien, Anne Hogan, Alice Burke
and lastly to Ned and all the bar staff who helped in the hall. The Ceili’s as we all know
are very sociable enjoyed by all ages so thanks to all who contribute to these occasions.
Senior Citizens Christmas Party
Held in December 07, it was a super day. The attendance was up. It is a special day for
the Club as it brings together past and present members and local people from around our
area. Special Guests were Bobby Grace, Sean Connors and our very own John Doyle and
friend. Many thanks, to all who supported the various fund raising events and gave
donations. Compliments to Paddy Brady and staff for the high standard of food and
service on the day.A special thank you to all the lads on our committee, Dan Brown and
John Fair and to all those members who have helped throughout the events. To Tommy
Clinton and the Committee, a big thank you, to you all for this wonderful occasion and
many other events.

Music
Pat Garrett is booked for the last Saturday of each month for 2008. An informal music
session takes place every Wednesday night. It is extremely popular. Thanks to John
Doyle, his colleagues in Mulligan, Mary Cleary and all the other musicians and singers
who joined in to make this an event to be looked forward to each week.
South Dublin County Council
We thank Mr Tommy Cowzer and his staff in South Dublin County Council for the use of
their pitches again over the last 12 months. I emphasise again the need to comply with
Council directives relating to the unplayability of pitches.
Hermitage :
I wish to thank the OPW for the use of the pitches. I wish to thank Mr Brian Crowley for
all his help throughout the year.
Cards
The cards continue each Friday night and are organised by Betty O’Neill. The numbers
are dwindling and if you are interested in joining, just turn up on Friday night. Please
also spread the word to your friends.
Communications
The main organ of communication is now becoming the Club’s website
(www.bodengaa.ie). Sincere thanks to Gerry O’Sullivan for his work in keeping the
website up-to-date and interesting. Also a note of thanks to Paddy Bates who is always
very obliging in Gerry’s absence. However, the information on the site is only as good as
the information given to Gerry by members. Please continue to give him information on
your team, including photographs.
Gerry also keeps members informed through the Club Notes in the Evening Herald and
the Echo and, again, it is up to yourselves to keep him informed. Similarly with the Club
Newsletter; if you do not supply information about your team or section to Gerry, do not
complain when other teams or sections get coverage.
The Club Directory was published again this year and is proving to be a very valuable
document.
Player Injury Scheme
The GAA Player Injury Scheme is there to assist football and hurling players who may
get injured in the course of a game or training. It is administered by Coyle Hamilton Ltd.
(The Camogie and Ladies Footballers have a separate scheme.) It does not cover all
medical expenses and, accordingly, since 1997 a Supplementary Player Injury Scheme
has been in operation.
Premier Physiotherapy and Paulette Kilkenny continue to provide physiotherapy services
to our players. Players may attend either one and are not required to pay directly for the
service if they are members of the Supplementary Injury Scheme. The Club covers the
69
cost in those cases. Some players also use other physiotherapists and this is their right.
Thanks to Jodie Moran for all his work in keeping up to date with the player injury
scheme.
Lotto
The Lotto is in its ninth year and continues to be a valuable source of revenue for the
Club. However, over the past few years the number of subscribers has declined and now
stands at 765.This is well down on previous years. We have now reached a critical stage
and should the downward trend continue we will be close to a situation where the lotto
will no longer be a money earner.
The Lotto is a key fundraising source and the funds raised are spent on coaching and
facilities which benefits all members of the Club. The changed economic situation will
put pressure on all the revenue resources. It is therefore very important that the Lotto
continues to play a central role in our fundraising activities. An examination of the list of
Lotto subscribers shows that the take up by members is poor. I would therefore ask
members who do not participate in the Lotto to become involved. If it is not possible to
commit for a year as a registered subscriber, members can contribute through the weekly
€2 envelope or through the online service. This can be accessed through
www.bodengaa.ie or through www.lotto.ie . A drive for new subscribers will be
undertaken in the New Year and we look forward to a positive response from everybody.
Over €90,000 is distributed in prizes which is a substantial sum. The odds of winning are
also very good with over 300 winners throughout the year, To date in Lotto 2008 which
commenced in April there have been 190 winners.
Monday night is Lotto night. So why not drop in to the Clubhouse and enjoy the relaxed
atmosphere which surrounds the Lotto draw. The draw takes place at 11.00p.m. Thanks to
Michael Dillon and Greg Heraty for their support in the selling of the €2 envelopes. As
the Lotto is such an important source of revenue to the Club I ask all members to support
it. On behalf of the Executive Committee I wish to thank Padraig Cullinane-Chairman of
the Lotto and his Committee for all their hard work and commitment to making the Lotto
such a success to date
Gaelic Telecom
This is another fund-raising opportunity that will help generate funds for the Club. By
transferring your telephone service to Gaelic Telecom, 15% of your call charges will be
paid to the Club on an ongoing basis and at the same time you will achieve considerable
savings for yourself. We urge you to consider this seriously. You may contact Ciarán
Doyle – 1890 929 422 for further information.
Strategic Review Committee:
. Challenge 2020
The Strategic Review Group set up to review all aspects of Club affairs
continued it's work during the year. It has made a presentation on it's
recommendations to the Club Executive. It also held a very well
attended information night on 11 November 2008 where it gave an
overview presentation to Club Members. Key Goals in Challenge 2020
include All Ireland success in all four codes and step up achievement
70
targets for all teams with particular emphasis on the need to cater for
players of all abilities. Achieving these goals will be underpinned by
implementing a detailed action plan for Games Development and Coaching
within the Club. Prioritising the allocation of Club funds to
support the Games Developmenmt and Coaching plan will be critical to
it's success .
Following the presentations and feedback received, the Review Group is
now finalising it's report to the Club Executive which will also be made
available to Club Members.
I would like to thank everyone who has assisted in the review during the
course of the year.
Punchestown
This year saw the third annual Punchestown Festival Ballyboden Fundraiser. The event
was ably organised by Catherine Lane Siobhan Earley Tony Basquel Liam Deane
Malachy Daly Tom Mullen Donie Kerin John Archbold and was very well supported by
club members and the corporate community. We had over 750 guests at the event. As in
2007, the feature event (the purchase at auction of a sponsorship national hunt race) was
purchased by Mr. Jim Redmond of Green Energy Recycling. We are very grateful to Jim
and his executive Mr. John Brown for their support. We are sure that the organising
committee is joined by every Ballyboden St Enda's member in expressing heartfelt thanks
to Green Energy Recycling and all the other participants on the day.
Tickets for All-Ireland Championship matches
Dublin played a number of games in this year’s All-Ireland championship series.
Demand for tickets exceeded supply in all cases, especially Hill 16 tickets. Rationing was
difficult but I think our decisions were fair in trying to ensure that all members got at least
one ticket.
Bar
In his capacity as General Manager, Noel Sheridan worked closely with Bar Manager
Ned Slattery and Treasurer Tony Wallace and Aiden McGovern to ensure that the Bar is
run in a smooth and efficient manner.
Golf Society
The Captain was Dave Coffey and the Committee comprised Ned Slattery
(Treasurer/Secretary), Gerry Keane, Pat McGrath, Tom O’Mahony, Mick Glynn
(handicap secretary) and John Cummins. Paddy Walsh, in his capacity of Club
Chairman, was President of the Society.

The Society had 36 members this year and they took part in 7 outings. For the first time,
there was an outing for the Presidents Prize. The Society had a wonderful year with an
average of 36 players for each outing. They are already looking forward to next year.
The AGM will be held in January 2009. The Player of the Year award went to Sean
Jennings.
We thank the Committee for all its hard work during the year. All Members are welcome
to join and the Committee would welcome new members.
Thanks also to Ned Slattery who organised the fundraising Golf Classic for the Juvenile
Section.
Drama Group
The Drama Group has been running for a number of years. There has been increased
interest in the past 2/3 years. The Group stage a play in March of each year with
workshops running the previous November in preparation for the auditions.
Staged the play in 2008 and an extra night for the retired/older members of the Club and
it is scheduled to do the same in 2009.
Auditions have taken place for the 2009 production of ‘Drama at Inis’ with a big turn out
for parts. It will be staged the first week of April 2009.
Thank you to all concerned for the great production of ‘Playboy of the Western World ’
and the wonderful social evenings that it brought to the Club. We are looking forward to
next year already.

The art society was set up this year. The Chairperson is Katie Daly. The first exhibition is
this weekend the 29th /30th November in aid of the Cancer Society and the Arthritis
Society. Exhibitors include Katie Daly, Dave Sweeney, Neil Brennan and Conor

All Managers should ensure that membership fees for players are paid as early as
possible. This year quite a number of players from various adult teams paid their
membership as late as October. This should not be tolerated next year. Some members
seem to wait for a reminder letter before they pay. My sincere appreciation to Fiona Kelly
for all her help.
I would like to thank Mary Hyland, Helen McGuinness and Mona Ui Shuilleabhain for
their co-operation throughout the year.
As a Club we are required to have a member on door duty during opening times. As a
member you have a responsibility to ensure that the Club complies with the law. During
the past year, having decided at the last AGM to have a lottery for door duty, it went a lot
better than previous years. In the coming year it will be expected that anyone who is
asked to do door duty will co-operate.
Shop Report
There are many people who I would like to acknowledge for all their hard work and
involvement with this project –Rita, Nuala O’Sullivan, Anne O’Regan, Tom and Mary
Phelan, Muriel Falconer, Mary Cummins, Maureen Walsh, Dave Harford, Theresa
Harford, Noel Sheridan, Sinead McNeela and Lebby Galvin. A big “Thank You” to all
those who staffed the shop and give of their time voluntarily week after week. I would
like to thank all the club members for their patience and support during this time and
would ask for your continued support.
The current opening hours for the shop are Thursdays 8.00 p.m. – 9.00 p.m. and
Saturdays 9.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. The shop opening hours will increase in the coming
year and if anyone interested in becoming involved please let us know.
Defibrillator
Defibrillator training is ongoing and thanks to all both involved in training and to all our
trainers.
Again, we thank Niall Sudway for his sponsorship. A big“Thank You” to Anne Marie
Sudway for her continous involvement in the training.
We welcome more volunteers on board
Health and Safety

The Club has a comprehensive Safety Statement covering all aspects of Club activities to
ensure that members, staff, players, visitors, etc., can use our facilities without risk of
injury. Noel Sheridan has been overseeing the implementation of the safety provisions of
the Statement and ensuring that everything is in order.
Na Mairbh
Five Club members passed away during the year. We extend our sincere sympathies to
the families of Tomas O Riordain, Seamus Brennan, Tom Kirwan, Pat Ledwidge and
Frank Quinn.

Finally, without our players the Club would not exist. Accordingly, I want to

level. To those players who were lucky enough to represent their county and
indeed their province, I say, we are proud of you. Finally, finally, I’m sure I have
left out someone from the above list, so I want to thank everyone who contributed
in any way to the success of the Club during the year. Our Club would not exist
without the army of voluntary workers who give freely of their time day in day
out.
