Concerning Airports:
As you may have heard in the news due to the delay in construction works the opening of the new
airport Berlin Brandenburg has been postponed to 2013. Currently the two airports Berlin
Schönefeld (SXF) and Berlin Tegel (TXL) are still in operation. Please check your ticket at
which airport you arrive and plan your trip to the hotel accordingly.
Location of the conference at Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin:
Conference hall: Simon-Bolivar-Saal in the building at Potsdamer Straße.

Please do not use the main entrance called “Haupteingang” on the map. The main entrance does
not open before 9.00 h! Please use the entrance called “Eingang Otto-Braun-Saal” on the map.
This entrance will be opened as following during the conference:
19 September: 8.45 h
20 September: 8.15 h
21 September: 8.15 h
22 September: 8.45 h
How to get to the library:
The building at Potsdamer Straße is located opposite of the famous concert hall “Philharmonie“.
The nearest train station is called Potsdamer Platz (Potsdam Square ポツダム広場).
The following lines of S-Bahn (各駅停車 urban train) and U-Bahn (地下鉄 subway) stop there:
S1, S2, S25, U2
The closest bus stations are:
Potsdamer Platz (Potsdam Square ポツダム広場): Bus 200, M41, M48, M85
Potsdamer Brücke (Potsdam Bridge ポツダム橋): Bus M29
Kulturforum (Cultural Forum 文化フォーラム): Bus M85, M48

Public transport:
Berlin has a good public transport system. The operating company is called BVG.

Please use the “journey planner” on the BVG website to find your way from the hotel to
Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin. You can either use the name of the station or simply the name of the
street plus number of the building for your search.
Tickets for public transport:
Berlin is divided into three zones:
A: city centre including the S-Bahn circle line
B: outside of the S-Bahn circle line up to the city limits including the airport Berlin Tegel.
C: surrounding of Berlin (ca. 15 km around the city) including the city of Potsdam (Castle
Sanssouci) and the airport Berlin Schönefeld
The price differs according to the number of zones you are travelling in.

In order to save the trouble of buying single tickets for each journey we strongly recommend buying
a multi-trip ticket or one of the passes.
Einzelfahrschein = single ticket AB: 2,40 Euro

Tageskarte = day ticket AB: 6,50 Euro
Tageskarte = day ticket ABC: 7,00 Euro
4-Fahrten-Karte = 4-trip-ticket AB: 8,40 Euro
Multi-day-pass only for travel:
7-Tage-Karte (VBB Umweltkarte) = 7-day-pass (VBB eco ticket) AB: 28,00 Euro

Don’t forget to validate the ticket!
All tickets purchased at vending machines on the platforms have to be validated at the little yellow
or red boxes at the entrance to the platforms before entering the trains of S-Bahn or U-Bahn
(local train or subway)! Tickets cannot be validated inside the trains.
Tickets bought on buses and trams are usually already validated. If you are not sure, better ask the
driver.
Concerning the registration:
We would be grateful, if you could keep at hand the conference fee of 30 Euro (unemployed/retired
persons/students: 15 Euro) and in case you attend the traditional dinner also the exact amount of 25
Euro. Your cooperation is much appreciated!
As you have seen in the conference programme, we offer a tour of Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin,
Potsdamer Straße building on Thursday and Friday morning (8.30-9.00 h). We apologize for the
early time, but the tour has to take place before the official opening hours in order to avoid
disturbing our readers. The designation of the group will take place at the registration.
Concerning the optional visit of the Mori Ogai Memorial Centre on Saturday afternoon the
designation of the group (group 1: 14.00-15.00 h, group 2: 15.30-16.30 h) will also take place at the
registration. We apologize that not all preferences as given on the application forms could be
accommodated, as too many persons were interested in attending group 1. Thank you for your
understanding!
