Diploma of Business & Enterprise (3113C0207) Business Law Examination Preparation Guide Exam overview: Time Allocated time is 3 hours plus 10 minutes reading time Writing is not allowed during the reading time. Marks Exam is 60% of your final grade for this subject Paper has a total of 60 marks. Minimum of 30 marks are required to achieve a pass grade for the exam. If you do not pass this exam (i.e. if you do not achieve a mark of 30) and the overall mark for the unit is over 45% then you will be able to do a resit but you will only be able to achieve a mark of 30 or a pass for this second attempt if you pass. Resit paper If the student fails the resit paper or does not attend the resit exam, a FAIL grade will be awarded. Resources in the examination venue This is a CLOSED BOOK exam. No papers, books or notes of any kind are permitted into the examination room. Phones, iPads and similar devices must be switched off and left inside the student's bag. Phones are not to be placed on, or inside student desks. Note that dictionaries and electronic translators are also NOT permitted. Exam supervisors will provide instructions about where students should store bags for the duration of the examination. Cheating The examination will be closely supervised. Any student who has in their possession any written materials - notes, books, papers, etc (including notes written directly onto skin or clothing) will be immediately removed from the examination room. A FAIL grade will be recorded and a resit is NOT available to any student in these circumstances. The exam format is comprised five sections as follows: Section 1: 10 marks 20 multiple choice questions. [1/2 mark awarded for each correct answer) Section 2: 5 marks 10 true/false questions. [1/2 mark awarded for each correct answer) Section 3: 5 marks 5 legal definition/explanation questions. [1 mark awarded for each correct answer) Section 4: 24 marks 6 short answer questions. Which comprise of short cases relating to various legal issues [maximum possible 4 marks for each answer) Section 5: 16 marks 2 case study questions. [maximum possible 8 marks for each answer) o 1 Contract Law case study o 1 tort Law Case study Note: An information sheet "A summary of the law of negligence" will be attached to the back of the exam paper.
