Local author draws on Dayton history in time travel novels and holiday story where “Christmas can be
Murder”
“Time’s Holiday” by Jennette Marie Powell features an unwitting time traveler who must escape 1992’s
“Christmas Killings,” or become the gang’s next victim
Dayton, Ohio – Twenty years ago, a street gang called The Downtown Posse terrorized Dayton and killed
six people during a murder spree called The Christmas Killings. In “Time’s Holiday,” a short story by local
author Jennette Marie Powell, seventeen-year-old Taylor Gressman’s having a bad day on Christmas
Eve, and it’s about to get worse when she takes an unexpected trip back in time to 1992. Taylor’s never
heard of the Posse, but she knows she’s in trouble when she wakes up in a crack house and learns she’s
the captive of gang members who have killed three people. It’s up to Taylor to ensure that she and a
newfound friend don’t become the gang’s next victims, and in the process, learn that giving is the best
gift of all.
“An interesting concept, likeable characters, and a nice morale to the story, especially appropriate at
Christmas.” – Amazon reader review
“Time’s Holiday” is a prequel to Ms. Powell’s Saturn Society series, about a secret society of psychic time
travelers with a chapter in Dayton. Book One is Time’s Enemy, the story of an unwilling initiate who’s
wanted by the Society for a crime he hasn’t yet committed. He seeks help from the woman whose life
he saved in the Great Flood of 1913, decades before he was born. But she’s loyal to the Society, and
when her rescuer returns to the past, she faces a terrible choice—condemn the man she loves and to
whom she owes her life, or deny her deepest convictions by helping him escape and risk sharing his
sentence.
“I could not put it down. The characters were clear and well-drawn. The popping in and out of eras and
changes in Dayton, Ohio, a place I have lived, failed to confuse me. That says a lot for the skill of the
author.” – Maggie, reviewer for CoffeeTime Romance and More, on Time’s Enemy
Time’s Fugitive goes back even further, to prehistoric times, where a time traveler framed for murder
and the woman he doesn’t want to love flee to save their unborn child from killers from the future,
unaware their progeny could destroy them all.
“Book two of the Saturn Society series does not disappoint! The fast paced action, warping in and out of
different time periods, and the twists throughout amazed me.” – Amazon reader review
“Time’s Holiday” is currently available for free as an ebook on Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, the
Apple iTunes store, and other major ebook retailers. For those who prefer print, it’s also part of Home
for the Holidays, an anthology of holiday stories by members of the Ohio Valley chapter of Romance
Writers of America. Home for the Holidays is available on Amazon.com.
