VODCAST 6 - Exams [Presenters walk and talk through Caulfield Racecourse] Kumar: At the end of each semester, you will be a part of this group of students: the sense of stress and anxiety palpable in the air... Hilary: It really is. We're following this bunch over the Caulfield Racecourse, where exams are held at the end of each semester. Now while this place is famous for the fillies and the fascinators for most of the year, at this time of year, for you guys, it's more important to bring your books and your brains to the Racecourse. Kumar: Now, as you can see, the Caulfield Racecourse is crazy close to both the Caulfield campus and to the station [gestures to the station in the background]. So what this means is you hop off a train, go across the road, and here you are, right at the venue. Hilary: It's that easy. Now, while lots of people do like to drive to their exams, parking and traffic are always really unpredictable. So, why not take the green option, catch a train, jump off at the station, it's that close, and you can get some last-minute cramming in on the way here. Let's go check it out! [Presenters look into an exam room full of students and make a shushing gesture. They walk away from the door and across the Racecourse grounds.] Kumar: You gotta be really quiet – the exam supervisors have announced that everything has just begun. Hilary: Now while this exam is running smoothly, you might get here with a few questions. Once you get to the Racecourse, if there's anything you need to know, just head over, across the way, to the Exam Help Desk [clip of exterior of Exam Help Desk]. They're really friendly folk, and it's run for students, by students. You've got access to your seat number and the exact building you're meant to be in, all on the Web Enrolment System (otherwise known as WES). But, if you've forgotten, don't stress! All you need to do is show them your student card [clip of staff at Exam Help Desk] and they'll give you all the information that you need. They've even got spare pens and pencils if for some reason you've forgotten yours. [screen cuts to clip of students completing a written exam] Kumar: The exam venue is large; there's a lot of people around. It could be intimidating, but the important things to remember are that everyone is in the same boat, so just relax, make sure you're prepared, and the best of luck! [screen cuts to Monash website, Exams page. Mouse arrow clicks on “Venues, starting time and seating”. Page changes to “Venues and allocated seating”.] Hilary: You'll find out details about exam venues and how to get there on the website. For off-campus students, there's a network of exam venues in each Australian state, and overseas. [screen scrolls to show more of the page. Mouse arrow clicks on “off-campus exam locations”, and screen changes to a list of interstate exam venues.] Again, it's all on the Monash website. [Screen cuts to clip of student checking their mobile phone] Kumar: Results are posted in July, and again in December. [sms sound] You can access them in WES, or arrange to have an SMS sent to you. The date your exam results will come out is [screen cuts to my.monash portal. Mouse arrow clicks on “Exam timetable”] published on the exam page of your my.monash portal. [screen cuts to Hilary and a statue of a jockey, outside in the grounds of Caulfield Racecourse] Hilary: (to the statue) So buddy, reckon you nailed your exam? Kumar (off screen, pretending to be statue of jockey): Oh yeah, pretty rough, I got through it, question 3 threw me... [screen cuts to five presenters sitting in the Banquet Room on Clayton Campus] Hilary: So, that's it for this series of vodcasts. Hopefully the information we've provided can really help you. Grace: When you're starting out in your academic career, the main thing to remember is you're not alone. Jen: Monash has the people and services in place to assist you. So, relax, enjoy and make the most out of your experience! Kumar: We hope your uni career goes well, and brings you everything you're looking for. So, best of luck! Brendan: Yeah, good luck, everyone! [Presenters laugh/woop, throw their hands into the air and tickle the presenter in the middle. Screen cuts to Monash University logo.]
