from which we learn lessons, best practices, tips and tricks, and recommendations
that can be generalized to serve us in many future occasions. These, unfortunately,

In developing the TiP-ToP we took into consideration:
The knowledge worker is always busy and does not have the time to search the
knowledge, no matter how valuable it is to their work.
There are existing gaps in the knowledge the various knowledge workers hold. A
BP trivial to one can be valuable to another.
Different BP’s have different lifecycles. Some will be valid forever, others should
be rechecked after a defined period to see if yet current.
Effective knowledge is presented to the user using drill-down method. Give him a
book, he won’t have time to read it; Give her a highlight and if it is interesting
she’ll seek for more.
In many cases there is literal related to the BP.
In most cases there is an overflow in information. The challenge is to choose the
right and relevant items from with the large amounts offered.
These facts brought us to develop a Knowledge Management based tool,
assisting the management of lessons learned and best practices (BP's).

TiP-ToP’s functionality
TiP-ToP supports the debriefing process, developing effective and generalized
lessons learned.
TiP-ToP enables easy and consistent retrieval of lessons learned and best
practices. System based intuitive attributes are combined providing the most
relevant knowledge for the single user.
TiP-ToP enables a focused well defined “push” of the lessons learned and best
practices in MS Word© documents, based on the user reading or writing the
document, based on the document itself and on its context. How? While working
in the MS Word© a narrow window opens beside the document offering the user
to view the relevant knowledge offered to him/her by the system in a drill down
manner.
TiP-ToP enables connection of relevant information pieces (documents,
presentations, diagrams etc.) to the lessons learned and best practices. This
eases the drill down operation into the knowledge and is one of the most critical
success parameters for promising the user will actually read the documented
knowledge.
TiP-ToP eases the connection between the knowledge user and the knowledge
contributor. From each lesson learned or best practice, one can access the
writer, opening an E-mail to him/her.
TiP-ToP is sensitive to the user operating the software. An un-experienced user
will be offered with all relevant lessons learned and best practices, while a more
experienced user will receive less. There are 5 levels of user sensitivity.
TiP-ToP differentiates old lessons learned and best practices, from regular and
new ones (by color and shape); Furthermore, the Knowledgebase manager is
advised to recheck the currency of old lessons learned and best practices.
TiP-ToP differentiates offered lessons learned and best practices depending on
context of the document in use.
TiP-ToP produces reports on existing lessons learned and best practices.
