Dear Parents,
Welcome back to Term 2. We hope both you and your children had a restful holiday. Below is an outline of
this term. If you have any questions relating to the classroom program do not hesitate to contact your

ASSESSMENT
During reading lessons students will study texts that involve
them in reading for meaning and understanding. Please
encourage your children to read daily for 10-15 minutes at
home.
Writing and Talking lessons will focus on recording information ,
including imaginative, informative and persuasive texts – with
diagrams, charts and procedures.
We will continue to study the whole school Ants in the Apple
Spelling program.
Year 3 students will be encouraged to use flicks when writing in
all books from Term 2 onwards.
In Library lessons the students will be developing information
skills using the internet and learning to locate resources using
oasis.
All students are expected to borrow books of interest from the
library that they can read.
This year students will be grouped based on assessment results
and teacher observation.
Students will be assessed regularly and moved according to their
needs.
All strands of the Mathematics syllabus will be taught this term
and all classes will follow the same Mathematics overview
teaching the same concepts across the grade. The focus is on
students building on their current understanding.
Maths homework will be set by their teacher using Mathletics.
Passwords have been sent home.
In Term 2, Yr 3 will be studying two units of work called Eating
Out and A Look Inside. Eating out looks at changes that occur in
food preparation and cooking. Takeaway food and why we buy
it. Preparing food for large numbers of people. A Look Inside
studies the systems in the human body and what affects good
health.
In technology each class will be following the Narellan Vale
Technology scope and sequence.
This term Year 3 will be focussing on the Science area.

In Personal Development the topics are ‘Personal Health choices
including Drug Education- Keeping Myself Safe’.
‘Crunch and Sip’ will be 10.00am daily and children are
encouraged to bring in fruit and vegetables.
Stage 2 Sport will be on Fridays 10.00 am to 11.00am
Winter Gala Days are held in Week 6 June 6, Week 9 June 27
and Term 3 Week 2 July 25. Training for these teams will be held



Creative Arts
during sport time. Students are expected to have the
appropriate gear with them for these sessions.
Various sport clinics such as AFL will be offered throughout the
year.
Visual Arts, Dance, Drama and Music will be integrated into class
programs.
There will be various extra curricular activities that children will be
invited to participate in.



Homework will be set weekly by the classroom teacher. It will include Mathletics, Reading Eggs and home
reading.
The Computer Lab is open Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch to assist with research tasks for those students
who need access to computers.
