Language Futures was a one-off event held on 24 th February 2010 and brought together students from the School of Languages, Careers and Employability Service and employers and organisations who have an interest in recruiting linguists and/or can share information about careers using languages. http://www.careers.salford.ac.uk/sol - for further information
The event built on existing links that both the School and the Careers and Employability Service had and was able to capitalise of the School’s role in the National Network for Translating and Interpreting.
The event comprised of a small exhibition as well as a series of interactive presentations.

The event was preluded by workshops to prepare both UG and PG students for the event.
Short talking head film clips were taken of most of the visitors which will be made available online for anyone to watch.
The event aimed to inspire students about the range of opportunities using languages that there are.
It allowed for students to meet real recruiters and people in established careers using languages.
It took the Careers Fair model and adapted a bespoke approach for linguists.

Employer Feedback:
The event was very worthwhile. Not only to promote JTI as an employer brand within Manchester but to talk first hand with the students and have the opportunity to discuss the company and opportunities with them

We timed our latest recruitment campaign to co-inside with the Language Futures event at Salford to gain maximum publicity within our target candidates. The event was exceptionally well organised and
I was very impressed by the calibre of the students I spoke to. All the Salford staff were very professional, helpful and friendly throughout the day.
