The Moisture Festival's Varietè shows feature a rapid succession of acts showcasing comedy alongside awe-inspiring physical and mental dexterity, with poignant moments of strength and delicate beauty to make you laugh, wonder, shake your head in disbelief and truly appreciate what live entertainment can do to exhilarate and bring some real joy. A live show band propels each show. Varietè has its roots in the Music Halls of 19th century England. It evolved into Cabaret in Europe, and Vaudeville in America. Because of the talented artists currently working in this genre, it is still fresh, exciting and tremendous fun for the audience. Word of this springtime event’s amenable audiences and the artist’s camaraderie has spread around the USA and beyond, enhancing the festival's reputation as the major event for this lasting form of entertainment. Ninety percent of The Moisture Festival shows are all ages/family friendly, not to say puritanical. Some late night adult varietè and burlesque shows flirt with more spice. Fifty-five shows, March 17 through April 10! All fun. WHAT'S NEW AT THE MOISTURE FESTIVAL Part of the mission of The Moisture Festival is to bring world-class varietè entertainment to Seattle neighborhoods and to the surrounding areas. The Moisture Festival began in Fremont. That neighborhood's creative heartbeat continues to provide the strong pulse for the festivals expansion. Performances at Hale’s Palladium in Fremont will run the length of the festival, opening on St. Patty’s day and continuing through April 10. The atmosphere at The Palladium creates a chemistry between audience and performer that is an absolute joy to behold. Bringing the festival to Vashon Island and Georgetown was inevitable. These communities have long been extremely supportive of art and live performance. Georgetown is home to Seattle Academy of New Circus Arts/SANCA, now the country’s largest circus school. The Georgetown Ballroom is one of Seattle’s hidden treasures and a perfect venue for varietè shows, (For adults in Georgetown we are adding a late night Burlesque show, April 2, 10:30pm). Slightly off the beaten path on Vashon Island is Open Space for Arts and Community, a spacious warehouse that is both elegant and funky with plenty of parking and plenty of room for fun. This space was created by Janet McAlpin and David Godsey of The UMO Ensemble. The Festival is further enriched by its continued collaboration with ACT - A Contemporary Theatre. Festival organizers were familiar with ACT’s tremendous reputation for modern theatrical experimentation and an energy for artistic collaboration. Moisture Festival’s eight world-class Libertease Burlesque shows are presented at ACT March 25 & 26 and April 1 & 2. The festival also presents its all ages Grand Varietè shows at ACT on March 27 and April 3. Most unique and exciting for 2011 is that all shows are "in the round" in ACT's exquisite Allen Theatre. Collaboration with the Seattle International Film Festival continues at SIFF Cinema. Historic animation film, The Adventures of Prince Achmed (only 2 copies of the film exist in the world) screens one night only, with live score composed and performed by Nova Devonie and Dave Keenan, aka Miles and Karina, two fantastic Moisture Festival performers. This is a not to be missed chance of a lifetime!
