1) The various types of biometric devices are a fingerprint scanner, a face recognition system, hand
geometry system, a voice verification system, a signature verification system, and an iris
recognition system.
2) The term OCR (optical character recognition) is a technology that involves reading typewritten,
computer-printed, or hand-printed characters from ordinary documents and translating the
images into a form that the computer can process.
OMR (optical mark recognition is a technology that reads hand-drawn marks such as small
circles or rectangles. This is used frequently on tests.
RFID (radio frequency identification) is a technology that uses radio signals to communicate with
a tag placed in or attached to an object, an animal, or a person.
MICR (magnetic-ink character recognition) devices read text printed with magnetized ink. A
MICR reader converts MICR characters into a form the computer can process.
3) PC Video cams are used to capture video and still images, send e-mail messages with video
attachments, add live images to instant messages, broadcast live images over the Internet, and
make video telephone calls.
A Web cam is any video camera that displays its output on a Web page.
Video Conferencing is a meeting between two or more geographically separated people who
use a network or the Internet to transmit audio and video data.
4) Voice recognition works by a voice recognition program that recognizes a vocabulary of
preprogrammed words, which can range from two words to millions of words. Many products
today include a built-in set of words that grows as the software learns your words.
5) The different mouse types are mouse pointer. As you more a mouse the pointer on the screen
also moves.
A mechanical mouse has a rubber or metal ball on its underside. It works by the electronic
circuits in the mouse translating the movement of the mouse into signals the computer can
process.
An optical mouse uses devices that emit and sense light to detect the mouses movement. The
latter type often is referred to as a laser mouse.
An air mouse is a newer type of motion sensing mouse that in addition to the typical buttons
allows you to control objects, media players, and slide shows by moving the mouse in
predetermined directions through the air.
A wireless Mouse or cordless mouse is a battery powered device that tramsmits data using
wireless technology such as radio waves or infrared light waves.
6) The various types of terminals are dumb terminals, smart terminals, and special-purpose
terminals.
7) An ATM (automated teller machine) is used for convenient self-service banking. With an ATM
people can withdraw cash, deposit money, transfer funds, or inquire about account balances.
8) As you click on the on-screen keyboard, they appear in the document at the location of the
insertion point.
Hovering is moving over an object with automatic clicking.
