Syllabus

This phase will introduce the student to

Electrocardiography (ECG). The basic principles of the Cardiovascular System will be taught in this course. The student will learn how to set up and operate ECG equipment. Patient instruction and procedural considerations will be addressed.

The student will also be instructed on the lead systems and placement, and identifying rhythms. The student will learn the importance of quality assurance and continual quality improvement. CPR and

First Aid is given during this course.

Various diagnostic imaging modalities and x-ray studies as well as Spirometry will be taught during this phase.

140 clock hours (65 hours lec, 75 hours lab)

6.5 Semester Credit Hours

1. Perform ECG.

2. Identify normal and abnormal heart rhythms.

3. Detect and distinguish arrhythmias.

4. Receive CPR and First Aid training and card through the American Heart

Association.

5. Recognize the use of various diagnostic imaging modalities and describe the responsibility of the medical/clinical assistant when preparing patient’s for x-rays studies.

6. Perform spirametry

7. Utilize library for research project.

8. Perform warranties, City wide training and typing tutor.
