- HOW TO MEASURE CORRUGATED BOXES First carefully remove the tape, or
stitches, or separate the glue flap. Lay
the container flat with the inside liner
facing up. The unjoined container
should now appear as illustrated at the
right. >>>>>
The container panel measurement
should be taken on panels 2 and 3. Take
your pen and mark the exact center of
the scores enclosing the panel involved
and measure the distance between the
marks to the nearest sixteenth inch.
THIS MEASUREMENT IS NOT THE INSIDE
DIMENSION FOR THE CASE. Deduct
from this the "Score Allowances" as
follows:
RSC SCORE ALLOWANCES
Dimension

Length
3/16
Width
3/16
Depth
3/8
At right is an illustrated example of an
RSC container 12 x 6 x 8 measured by
the center of score to center of score
method.
To properly measure a corrugated box,
score to score measurements should be
taken for each dimensions. Since when
describing a corrugated box the inside
dimensions (or usuable carton capacity)
is considered, predetermined deductions
from score to score measurements must
be made to arrive a the true box size.
Board flute, being of variable thickness,
requires that each flute have their own
set of score to score measurement
deductions as follows:
ALLOWANCES FOR RSC BOXES

3/16"
1/4"
W

NOTE: Always measure panels not adjacent to the tape of glue
joint. Measure from the center of score to center of score.
