Housing and Residential Life
Welcome to the dormitory of Kyungpook National University. It is Student
Housing's mission to support the educational activity of KNU students by
providing them with a clean, safe, secure, and well-maintained residence.
The dormitory is composed of eight buildings and one dining commons,
separated women's dormitories from men's. Each House is fully equipped with
a reading room, laundry facilities, a computer room, and a gymnasium, etc.
Each room is fully furnished including Internet connection. All of these
facilities are available with no charge as long as you are resident students.
The cafeteria can hold 600 people at one time, and tries to plan a variety of
meals to taste. We are committed to providing complete customer satisfaction
through on-going assessments and continuous quality improvement. If you
have any questions about residential life and recommendations, you can list
on the board of the homepage or send e-mails.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What is Intranet?
A1. It is linked in the dormitory Internet homepage. ID is your student number, the secret number is the
back numbers of your foreign registration number. Within the Intranet, you can check your penalty
points, apply for staying out, submit fix-it requests, etc. Not knowing ID and foreign registration
number, you can ask the housing office.
Q2. What can I do if facilities(i.e. lamps in shower rooms, showers, or lamps in toilets) are out of order?
A2. The Fix-it request is available online at Intranet of the dormitory Internet site. If you list it on the
Q&A of the dormitory homepage, you can't get services. Changing lamps can be asked in the
building guardhouse.
Q3. Can I have a choice to eat out? Can I refund it?
A3. It is a fixed rule to have meals in the dining commons. Now food fees(1,600₩/meal) are calculated
reflecting skipping meals of the average year and are cheaper compared to the varieties of the
menu. If we can have a choice to eat out, food fee for a meal would increase too much. To offer
good food at cheaper cost having meals in the dining commons is a duty, and we keep this
according to the most of the students' opinion. However, when you are avoidable to skip meals
more than 5 days because of public things, you can have a refund applying for skipping meals 3
days before.(an official paper requested, ask the housing office)
Q4. When can we get toilet tissues?
A4. Toilet tissues are distributed every two months. March, May, June(summer session), September,
November, December(winter session) will be. 4 rolls of toilet tissues for one person will be.
Q5. When can we get the hubs?
A5. Hubs are distributed in the beginning every semester(March, September). Dorm Residents Council
names the day sharing hubs. Only one hub will be possible for a room. In addition, the lan cables
should be purchased individually.
Q6. Is It possible to change the hot-water time?
A6. Hot-water time is fixed towards making the most of the dorm residents' convenience. Preparing for
sudden cold days because of irregular weather, we set the time for hot-water and ensure extra
water. Please understand these situations. Correct time can be referred in the information about
hot-water time(p. 8), and hot-water time changes will be noticed separatedly.
Q7. Can I change my room in the course of the semester?
A7. Changing the rooms is impossible as a rule though, if there is serious discord with your roommates
because of extreme conditions, resulting in violence, we consider the ways which can help dorm
residents as much as possible. However, it is impossible to change the rooms if there is no empty
room or in the case of no permit of the director. You can ask the counseling room of your building.
Q8. What do I do if I have to leave the dormitory due to private situations?
A8. You should fill out the moving form on the Intranet 3 days before you move out. (If using Internet is
impossible, ask the housing office.) When you leave the dormitory, you should pack all the things
of your possession and clean up the room. You can get a refund based on the principal of the
dormitory after assistants of your building check the condition of your room and no damage is
found. You must fill your account number of your own account out correctly.
Q9. I heard that outsiders are forbidden on entering the dormitory. Is it also impossible for other
dormitory residents to enter our own building?
A9. Of course not. Other dormitory residents are also considered as outsiders and entrance of outsiders
are strictly banned. The crucial reason for ban on entrance of strangers is prevention of robbery.
In addition, there were many times that foreign male dorm residents entered the females'
buildings. It is banned and when this is violated there will be strong punishment. If you need to
enter other buildings, ask the housing office, take a pass for it, and enter. After that of course
you have to leave the places quickly.
Q10. Where can I get parcels?
A10. All of the parcels are taken from the parcel center in Jilligwan. Taken times are announced on the
bulletin board of each building.
Q11. Can I use a wire telephone?
A11. Every room has its own phone-line, but residents should supply their own phone. Phone service in
the rooms is free.
Q12. When is the selection for Hyangtogwan? Can foreigners live there?
A12. Hyangtogwan is a building which was built under the auspices of local autonomous entities and the
students of the cities which conclude contracts with Kyungpook University are selected first.
Therefore, All of the foreigners can't live in Hyangtogwan. For foreigners there are the buildings
Bongsagwan for male dorm residents, Hwamokgwan(FS) and Myunhakgwan for females.
Although the selection is carried out through students' wish, most of the females are arranged in
Myunhakgwan because there are too many dorm residents who want Hwamokgwan(FS).
Q13. Can I get batteries for the room door?
A13. You should buy batteries for the door individually. We would give them in former years, but now
we don't because there was some dorm residents who used the batteries we had given for their
private uses.
Please read the bulletin board of your building. Other information which was not stated in this
guide and subtle schedules will be announced there. Keep in mind that disadvantages from
not knowing the information on the bulletin well are all your responsibility.
