BRITISH DESIGN EMBASSY IN MILAN Milan Design Week and International Furniture and Lighting Exhibitions Sector: Creative and Media Industries 22nd to 26th April, 2009 The Salone del Mobile has been running in Italy for nearly 50 years, confirming Milan’s fame as a design capital and major meeting point for creative professionals. With over 2,500 exhibitors from nearly 40 countries, this year’s expo is expected to attract around 250,000 visitors. Alongside the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, now in its 48th edition, together with the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition this year will be Euroluce, the eagerly-awaited International Lighting Exhibition that sets the sectorial benchmark with its wide range and broad spectrum of goods that go to make up a unique lighting sector scenario – from light sources to domestic lighting, from technical illumination to urban illumination - embracing both technological and formal innovation. Surrounding the official fair are numerous high profile fringe events taking place all over the city. Milan is a key focal point for design and future style trends and most international buyers, business contacts and visitors from all over the world will be in Milan during that week. Following the success of the London Design Embassy, this year UK Trade & Investment is hosting a "British Design Embassy" at the Modern Art Gallery, Villa Reale in the centre of Milan. The British Design Embassy is supported by Icon magazine. For international buyers, design VIPs connected with the Fair and members of the press, the British Design Embassy will be an exclusive, stylish and dynamic environment to organise meetings, relax, work and network. A ‘concierge’ service will be on hand to help visitors navigate their way through the wealth of destinations and activities offered by the Salone. The Villa Reale will also see the international launch of ‘Love & Money – 50 Years of Creative Britain’, a multi screen exhibition celebrating the successful marriage of creativity and commerce in the UK. This exciting exhibition will be open to the general public and takes place in the Ballroom next to the British Design Embassy.
