Fall 2016 Scholarship Application
Instructions
The attached application is for financial assistance available to students enrolled in VCU School of Education degree programs as
outlined online at http://www.soe.vcu.edu/prospective-students/scholarships/. It does not replace the FAFSA (Free Application for
Federal Student Aid), nor is there any exchange of information between the VCU School of Education and the VCU Office of Financial
Aid.
**Please carefully review the criteria for a scholarship before you apply to ensure that you qualify for the scholarship. Please
review the criteria for scholarships at: http://www.soe.vcu.edu/prospective-students/scholarships/and click on Table and
Description of Available Scholarships and Fellowships. Students must plan to be enrolled in a degree-seeking program at least
half-time in the upcoming fall semester in order to be eligible for a scholarship. Payment will be applied directly toward tuition
and fees for the fall semester.
Step 1: Fill Out the Application Form
1-6. Personal data as requested
7. Date (semester and year) accepted to VCU/SOE
8. Date (semester and year) of expected graduation
9. Check the box of the degree you will receive.
10. Check the box of your current status.
11. Indicate your program of study (i.e., Administration and
Supervision, Counselor Education, Secondary Teaching,
etc.)
12. Indicate whether or not you have been admitted into the
teacher preparation program.
13. Check box indicating setting in which you intend to work.
14. Current VCU cumulative GPA
15. Transfer students should indicate cumulative GPA from
institutions previously attended. New graduate students
should indicate undergraduate GPA.
16. Provide a semester/year, course number, course title, and
number of credit hours as indicated for courses in which
you plan to enroll during the next semester and/or year.
17-20. Provide information as requested.
21. Provide contact information for references. Two
recommendation letters are required to support your
application for scholarships. One letter must be from a
VCU School of Education Faculty member. New students
can substitute a faculty reference from an institution
previously attended. Reference forms used for admission
to graduate school are not acceptable.
22. Essay – please submit a typed narrative of approximately
500 words (two typed, double-spaced pages) that
addresses what you hope to accomplish as an educator.
Include attributes and aspirations you bring to the field for
which you are preparing. PLEASE NOTE: The scholarship
for which you are applying may have an alternate essay
question. Please see the scholarship information online
at http://www.soe.vcu.edu/prospectivestudents/scholarships/for clarification.
23. Financial information – Provide information as requested.
Please do not include specific dollar amounts, UNLESS you
feel it is a critical piece of information that enhances the
description of your financial need.
24. Your signature indicates that the information on your
application is current and accurate.
Step 2: Attachments
1. Transcripts – Please attach a copy of your unofficial undergraduate and/or graduate transcripts from VCU. Official sealed
transcripts are required from other institutions.
2. Essay – See number 22 above.
3. Letters of reference – (unless sent or delivered separately by the referrer).
4. Current resume/Vitae – Optional
Step 3: Copies
One original and five copies of each page: Application form, references, resume/vitae, essay, and transcripts.
Note: Only one original and one copy are needed for SCHEV scholarship applications.
Step 4: Confirm Reference Letters
Confirm with your references that letters are mailed in time to meet the scholarships deadline(s).
