Accessing the full-text of journals The aim of this guide is to demonstrate how to access a journal (or article) from each of the suppliers that support Athens authentication through Social Services Knowledge Scotland (SSKS) at http://www.ssks.org.uk . Please note that OVID, BMJ and EBSCOhost titles can be accessed on NHS premises without the requirement to login. The suppliers we will focus on are: 1. BMJ Journals 2. CSA PsycARTICLES 3. EBSCOhost 4. EBSCO EJS 5. Emerald 6. Informahealthcare 7. Informaworld Taylor & Francis 8. Ingenta See part 2 of this guide for no.s 9-16 below 9. Karger 10. Metapress 11. OVID 12. Wiley You can also access individual guidance on each supplier hosted on The Knowledge Network help and training pages by clicking here. http://www.ssks.org.uk Introduction For ease of use it is recommended that you login to SSKS with your Athens username and password first. If you have not yet registered, click the link in the top left of the home page and follow the on-screen instructions. Login / Register To register, select the “Login / Register” option at the top of the homepage and follow the onscreen instructions. http://www.ssks.org.uk To search for known journal titles and articles click on Library in the menu bar. Journals You can find a journal title using the search box or the A to Z journal finder. http://www.ssks.org.uk Articles - Search for journal articles. Enter information about the article in to the relevant fields (title, keyword, author, etc.) From your search results, click on the title of the journal or article to link through to the supplier website. The screenshots below provides an example of the search results page which links through to the SFX holdings page, providing details of the reference and link through to full-text options. http://www.ssks.org.uk Export article reference in to the reference management tool Refworks Click on the supplier link to be directed through to access the full-text. If the resource is not available from SSKS you will be presented with alternative options for requesting the full-text. http://www.ssks.org.uk 1. BMJ Journals After clicking through from the SFX menu you will be taken to the BMJ Journals interface (in this example it is for the journal Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry). If you are using a computer on NHS premises you will not need to login. http://www.ssks.org.uk Select ‘Login via Athens’. Select ‘Login via Athens’. Select the Athens login button. If you have not already logged in to SSKS you will be asked to enter your Athens username and password to access the full-text (see screenshot below). If you have logged in you will be taken straight through to the full-text http://www.ssks.org.uk Full-text options are now available. You will be identified as part of the NHS Scotland consortia. As well as HTML you can also view the full-text of the article in PDF (this is a better format if you are printing it off). 2. CSA PsycARTICLES http://www.ssks.org.uk If you have not already logged in to SSKS you will be asked to enter your Athens username and password to access the full-text. If you have already logged in you will be taken straight through to the full-text. 3. EBSCOhost http://www.ssks.org.uk If you have not already logged in to SSKS you will be asked to enter your Athens username and password to access the full-text. (If you are using a computer on NHS premises you will not need to login). or http://www.ssks.org.uk Select the ATHENS Loin link. If you have already logged in you will be taken straight through to the full-text. Link back to SSKS View the full-text of the article in PDF http://www.ssks.org.uk 4. EBSCO EJS If you are not logged in you will be taken to the login screen below. Select the ATHENS Login link at the top of the page. Enter your Athens password at the login page below. If you have already logged in to SSKS you should not need to re-enter your login details. http://www.ssks.org.uk Link through to view the full-text. In some instances you will be directed to the journal publisher’s own website and in some instances you will require an additional publisher username and password. Please contact knowledge@nes.scot.nhs.uk for the login details. View the full-text of the article in PDF http://www.ssks.org.uk 5. Emerald You will be taken to Emerald interface. You are not taken directly to the article only the issue the article is in. http://www.ssks.org.uk Select the Athens login link. On the next screen select the Athens Login link. http://www.ssks.org.uk If you have already logged in to SSKS with your Athens username and password you will be taken straight through to access full-text, if not you will be asked to login at this point. http://www.ssks.org.uk At this point you may be taken back to Emerald’s homepage – see below. Recognised as logged in Browse for the journal of interest. At this point you can browse for the relevant journal and locate the specific article. My advice would be to use the SFX page again to link through to the article or title you are trying to access and you should be taken through to the relevant content now as a logged in user. Once logged in locate the article click on the Full Text or PDF link to access the full-text. http://www.ssks.org.uk 6. Informahealthcare You will be taken to informahealthcare interface. You are not taken directly to the article only the issue the article is in. http://www.ssks.org.uk At this point you can click on the Athens login link. Find the article you are looking for and click on the Full Text or PDF link to access the full-text. http://www.ssks.org.uk Select the Athens login link. If you have already logged in to SSKS with your Athens username and password you will be taken straight through to the full-text, if not you will be asked to login at this point – see below. 7. Informaworld Taylor & Francis http://www.ssks.org.uk You will be taken to infromaworld Taylor & Franics interface. You are not taken directly to the article only the issue the article is in. At this point you can login http://www.ssks.org.uk On the next page select Sign in via Athens If you have already logged in to SSKS with your Athens username and password you will be taken straight through, if not you will be asked to login. http://www.ssks.org.uk Once logged in locate the article click on the Full Text or PDF link to access the fulltext. http://www.ssks.org.uk 8. Ingenta You will be taken to Ingenta interface. You are not taken directly to the article only the issue the article is in. http://www.ssks.org.uk Click on the Athens login link. If you have already logged in to SSKS with your Athens username and password you will be taken straight through to the full-text, if not you will be asked to login at this point – see below. Find the article you are looking for and click the title of the article. http://www.ssks.org.uk Indicates that you have successfully logged in. The ‘S’ indicates that it is subscribed content. Click on the title of the article to access the full-text. You can view the article in PDF or HTML formats. http://www.ssks.org.uk
