After I finish intern for half a year, I pass the exam and get the teaching license for one year until now. Shan Keng Junior High School(深坑國中) is my first school of teaching English. At the first time, I’d like to teach in my town (I was born in Taichung), but I have already got a job in Taipei before the school which releases the information of teaching job in Taichung. At last, I decide to stay in Taipei. Q2: When did you learn English? Why do you like to be a teacher, even being an English teacher? A2: I’ve learned English since I was a 12-year- old girl, and I was a child who curious about everything I learn, “English is quite funny,” I thought. And I think I have talent in learning English. I thought being a teacher was good. First of all, in my childhood, we usually play a game which is called” the teacher says...” (老師說) and I usually play a role in being a teacher. At that time I think”Wow, if I am a teacher, many people have to obey my instruction (but the cruel situation is NOT REALLY.) I was so proud of being a teacher, and the other one is that because I have met a good teacher who always takes care to us. Two of these are why I am here to have a interview with you. Q3: Why did you choose to study in Hua Fan University in majoring in English? A3: During the three years in senior high school I usually got good grades. However, my grades in JCEE(大學聯考)were no good. As I was going to choose a subject for majoring in, my mother suggested me to choose Hua Fan University, I had two reasons of choosing the university, one is my grades match the university, the other one is that Hua Fan University, it supplies educational programs of high school. Because of the two reasons, my English learning and training of teaching” starts. Q4: How do you have a good interaction with your students in class? A4: Actually, many of my students like to learn English in class. But some of them think English is too easy to learn. So, I ask them if they won’t bother the other students in class, they can do anything they want to do, such as read the textbook in his/her own. I have to pay attention to most of the students in class. For most students’ benefits, I usually ignore some of the students who do not like to pay attention to in class if they won’t bother other students. At beginning of learning to be a teacher, I can not spend too much time in such students who do not like to be absorbed in class. A5: About the barriers...... I’ve met some student who did not like to study, and they always does English assignment in bad situation, and their attitude usually bad. When I ask them to try their best and they ignore what I said and I think, I try my best to help them in learning English, but they always do what they like to do, such as—sleeping in class, not doing homework...etc. Although sitting in the classroom, the students with bad situation always make day dreaming. “If they do not bother other in class, it is would be good” I think. Before being a teacher, I always think that the students listen to you and they have good manners and get good grades in their study. “Actuality is cruel!” Although I can not ask them to get high grade in English, I hope them never bother others other students is the job they have to base on. About the support...... You know, not everyone can learn English well; even get a good grade in English. I usually think language learning need talents. Before I was a “real teacher”, I usually think I will be a perfect teacher not only in teaching, but I can be a good friend with my students as possible as I can. But, “actuality is cruel!”, as what I said, not everyone can get good grade in English. One day, a student gave me a teacher’s day card and she wrote” Dear teacher, I think my English will not be good in moment, but because of you, I like English at last. The girl’s English is really not good, but when I read these words and inspired me it is not important to force them to get good grades. Let the students “love” is the most important job I have to do. Q6: You belong to a “ new teacher” in educational circle, and are you nerves in teaching and how do you prepare the teaching materials? A6: When I stand in front of these students I did feel very nerves because in my intern half a year. My instructor helps me a lot and my students and I had a good friendship. So, when I am a real teacher, I did not feel nerves. I just had a little worry in prepare the materials. In the beginning, if I did not prepare the materials for the next class last night, I could not sleep all the night. But now, I think I have some experience in teaching, sometimes I do not need prepare the materials in spending so much time, and I can stand in front of the students and teaching activity starts. Interview--Miss Tsai Irene Tsao B9007026 Q7: You are a home-room teacher, have you met a student with some problems, such as home-violence or skip class... etc? A7: Not yet, I think a student who does not like to study with a big problem in his/her family. I have met a student who really did not like to study in every course. I ask the student counseling to help him to learn how to use multi-media in computer. And we find out that he loves it, now he can design many creations in using computer and he is really determined on learning multi- media of PC. If I can not solve the student’s problem, I always ask the student counseling to help me. I know not everyone like to study and at that time, you can use the resources of school to help the students. Q8: What’s your belief and philosophy in teaching English? A8: I think at different level, me belief and philosophy will be different. My belief and philosophy now is I hope my students who have good manners and know how to respect others. When you visit my class, you can see a student sits in the front of the classroom but he usually turns back and talks to the other one. Nowadays, I think the students’ manners are really bad. Shan Kang is a small town and the family education is different from the students in city. Students in Shan Kang, their parents usually work day and night and they almost can not spend time to teach their children. If they did not have a good educational environment during childhood, it would be difficult to correct their bad attitude and habit during teenager. Q9: What’s your plan in the future? A9: I will go abroad and study TESOL in the USA. I’ve applied the Indiana University and when I finfish this term, I will go to there for a new start. Actually, I am studying a mandarin- teaching programs, I hope I can teach the foreigners to speak Chinese. It is going to be a global village, English and Chinese would be very important and I find out that I have more and more interests in teaching. I hope I can teach two languages in the future. My Feedback of the Interview: Miss Tsai is my mate during the four years in the university; both of us studied the educational programs of high school. When I ask her to have an interview she told me” I have done many interviews with some students”. And I think, although she is a new teacher in teaching, I have never seen a ‘new teaching situation”, so, I decide to ask her doing an interview. Before the interview, I ask her to have a visit in her class. I hope realize more Interview--Miss Tsai Irene Tsao B9007026 and more about the teaching situation of junior high school. I visit her classroom and I saw a “cruel situation before I go to Li Shan junior high school”. All the students are 7th grade and they are still child-like. Some of them are talking with each other and some are listening to what the teacher said. Perhaps I am still a student teacher; sometimes I think the students are different from ten years ago. I appreciate Miss Tsai helps me to see the” cruel class”. I think some of the students are out of control but if they do not bother others, so what? During the class, it’s amazing that I saw Miss Tsai’s teaching procedure. She taught the students how to write the date, her clear logic and when she used chalk to write down some words, I think her words not only big but very beautiful. It seems not she is a teacher with one year experience only. Although we are mates in the university, I think in the interview I learn many things from her. I find out that prepare well, do well.
