UT Tyler Office of Academic Success myUTTyler Patriot Advisement Report Updated 8-11-09 Student Instructions for Running and Reading Your Patriot Advisement Report 1. Log into myUTTyler Portal http://my.uttyler.edu. 2. Click the Student Home Page tab on the top left of the screen. 3. Click the Student Center link under the System Access heading on the right of the screen. 4. Click the My Academics link under the Academics. 5. Click the View My Advisement Report. The PAR may take a few moments to load. If you see the word PROCESSING flashing in the top right corner it means the PAR is being generated. 6. The PAR that is generated is based on your official records that are housed in the Registrar’s Office. If your PAR lists the wrong major, minor or catalog year you must declare each change in the Registrar’s Office. Your records, and in turn your PAR, will be updated after these changes are declared. The PAR is broken down into at least three sections; Core Curriculum, Courses Not Allocated, and Degree Requirements. If you have declared a minor in the Registrar’s Office those requirements will be listed at the end of the PAR. 7a. Section 1 – Core Curriculum The University Core Curriculum is always the first section listed and is assigned to every student. Overall Core Curriculum units and the catalog year the student entered under can be viewed at the top of this section. In the example listed below, the student is under the 2008-Present catalog and has completed 35 of the required 44 units. (NOTE: Units are the myUTTyler term for credit hours.) The Core Curriculum is broken down into 8-9 subsections depending on what catalog year a student is under: 1. English Composition/Rhetoric 2. Humanities 3. Social/Behavioral Sciences 4. Fine and Performing Arts 5. US History 6. American Government and Texas Politics 7. Laboratory Science 8. Mathematics 9. Institutional Option (only shown for students who are pursuing degrees under the 2002, 2004, or 2006 catalogs) 1 UT Tyler Office of Academic Success myUTTyler Patriot Advisement Report Updated 8-11-09 7b . Section 1 – Core Curriculum (Continued) Each subsection lists the total number of units required for completion and a course grid which shows the courses which are allowed to satisfy the requirement. This course grid will automatically populate when you enroll for or drop a course as well as when grades are posted. When a subsection is fulfilled, the course grid will collapse and the subsection will change from Not Satisfied to Satisfied as shown in the example below. (Note: A subsection will show as Satisfied with an course. If, when grades are posted, your grade is below the minimum acceptable grade the subsection will return to Not Satisfied until you complete the course with the minimum acceptable grade.) In the following example, the student must complete six units of US History and the requirement is currently Not Satisfied. Three units of US History have been taken and the US History II line has been collapsed, a sign that the course has been completed or is In Progress. You can reveal the US History II information by clicking the green arrow next to it. This will expand the course grid and allow you to see what grade you made and the semester the course was taken. (NOTE: For transfer students the When field is populated with the semester your transfer work was posted at UT Tyler, not the semester in which you completed the course. The Grade field will also include a “T” before the letter grade which identifies it as a transfer course.) In the example below, US History II is expanded which shows the student completed HIST 1302 in the spring 2009 semester with a grade of “C”. 2 UT Tyler Office of Academic Success myUTTyler Patriot Advisement Report Updated 8-11-09 7c. Section 1 – Core Curriculum (Continued) Some subsections allow you to choose from a list of approved courses in order to fulfill the requirement. In these cases a larger course grid will be displayed like the example below. Please keep in mind that the myUTTyler System will only allow 10 rows in a course grid to display when first viewing the PAR. If there are more than 10 courses offered that will satisfy a requirement, click the View All button at the bottom of the course grid and the course grid will expand to reveal all approved courses. Once you have successfully completed all requirements of the Core Curriculum the section will collapse. You can click the green arrow next to Core Curriculum (see below) to expand the section and view all completed coursework. If there are Core Curriculum courses that you have taken which do not appear in the Core Curriculum Section, please contact the Registrar’s Office. 3 UT Tyler Office of Academic Success myUTTyler Patriot Advisement Report Updated 8-11-09 8 Section 2 – Courses Not Allocated This section is a listing of all courses that have not been applied to a particular requirement either for the Core Curriculum or for specific major/minor requirements. This section will always remain collapsed but you can expand it at any time to view which courses have been listed. If UT Tyler does not have an equivalent subject for a course the student has transferred in, it is assigned as TRAN1000, TRAN2000, TRAN3000, or TRAN4000 depending on the level at which the course was taken. If UT Tyler has an equivalent subject, but not an equivalent course then it will be assigned as a SUBJECTTRAN1000, 2000, 3000, or 4000. In the example below the student took a 1000 level Biology course at another institution. UT Tyler does not offer a direct equivalent for the course so it has been coded as BIOLTRAN1000. If there are courses listed in the Courses Not Allocated section that should be matching in another area, please discuss it with your advisor during your next advising appointment. 9 Section 3 – Degree Specific Requirements This section displays the requirements for the major/minor that you have declared. This could be a major only; major and a minor; double majors, etc. The setup for this section mirrors the setup for the Core Curriculum which includes subsections with associated course grids. If there are degree-specific courses that you have taken which do not appear up in this section, please discuss it with your advisor during your next advising appointment. If you have any questions after viewing your PAR report, print out a copy and take it to your next advising appointment.
