The Great Tax Cut Debate
Robert Weiner and Varun Saxena, Truthout: "President Obama and most
Congressional Democrats want to extend the Bush tax cuts for 98 percent of
Americans, everyone making under $250,000. Republicans want to extend the tax cuts for everybody despite Bush's tax bill enacted in June 2001 to suspend the tax cuts at the end of 2010 in order to restore needed revenue. If nothing is done, everyone's taxes will rise."

What Landslide?: A Closer Look at the Midterm Election Results
John Kane, Truthout: "I would strongly suggest that, while the election results are certainly a political setback for Democrats, this 'Tea Party triumph' interpretation is wildly misleading once we look more closely at the actual election results.... It must be understood that referring to a substantial change in institutional power relations between the two parties as a substantial change in the mood of 'The
American People' is political sleight of hand at its worst. However, my position should not be interpreted as a defense of the Democratic Party, but rather as a condemnation of nonsensical media 'analysis'."

Much Needed Justice for Victims of Crime
H.P. Albarelli, Jr., Truthout: "Simply put, parallel justice is a comprehensive
effort to provide real and necessary services to victims of crime that address their physical, financial, and emotional needs and enhance their inclusion in the justice system, that often ignores or excludes them, to ensure that they are treated with respect and are notified, present and heard at any formal proceeding they wish to participate in."

Let's Build the New Economy
Joe Brewer, Cognitive Policy Works: "We need to build a new economy, one that promotes widespread prosperity while protecting us against ecological disaster.
The problem is that the current economy has been structured explicitly to extract wealth from the global commons and accumulate it in the coffers of an extremely powerful elite. And it is standing in our way."
