p.m. at Stockbridge High School. The lists of participating colleges/universities are included in
this newsletter. This is the perfect opportunity for you to start completing the college
admissions process.

Online registration is recommended for the SAT and ACT because we have very few paper registration packets in
the counseling office. You can register for the SAT at www.collegeboard.com. You can register for the ACT at
www.actstudent.org. A major credit card is required for you to register online. All colleges/universities require
you to have an SAT or an ACT score when you complete college applications, so you need to go ahead and register
to take the test soon!!!!! Do not procrastinate!!!! The cost of taking the SAT I: Reasoning Test is $43.00. The cost
of the taking the ACT is $44.50 (includes the Writing Test). The Henry County High School code is 112040.
Remember, there is a substantial fee for registering late.
SAT PREPARATION
If you are planning to take the SAT, you really need to take advantage of the online SAT preparation course to get ready
for the test. The Official SAT Online Course is available to students free of charge. Please remember that you must
prepare for the SAT. The SAT is not a test that you can take without some type of preparation. To register for the official
SAT Online course, (1) go to collegeboard.com/satonlinecourseschool, (2) In the “Students” box click “Register Now.”
Then enter HCHS’s school code 112040. Sign in with your collegeboard.com account or create a new one.
EVENTS OF INTEREST
The ASVAB will be given on Thursday, October 25, 2007. Please visit the counseling center to sign up.
Griffin Resa, in collaboration with the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC), is pleased to announce College
Goal Sunday on Sunday, February 10, 2008. The purpose of this program is to assist potential college students

throughout Georgia in completing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to receive consideration for
federal and/or state aid. The program will run from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. There is no cost to participate in this program.
The Devry University Young Women in Science and Technology is a program that is designed to attract female
students into non-traditional careers. This year’s half-day event is designed to inform and excite young women about
careers in business and how these careers rely on technology. The program will take place on Tuesday, November 13,
2007. Please see Ms. Davis or Dr. Turner. The deadline to submit the registration form is October 26, 2007.
The Georgia Game Developers Association (GGDA) (www.ggda.org), a non-profit trade association for the video
game industry, in cooperation with Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Public Broadcasting, and a
throng of sponsors will host SIEGE, Southern Interactive Entertainment & Game Expo (http://www.siegecon.net), on
October 5-7. The GGDA would like to invite ALL high school students and faculty to attend a FREE college fair on
Saturday, October 6. Full information is on the website. Space is limited. FREE reservations can be made by e-mailing
your name, school name, and e-mail address to info@siegecon.net with a subject of COLLEGE FAIR RESERVATION.
The Henry County Probe Fair will be held on October 2, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. at Stockbridge High School. The PROBE
fair provides an excellent opportunity to talk with college representatives about your educational plans and pick up
application materials. Mark your calendar and plan to attend!!!!!!!

Albany State University will host its campus visitation days on Sat., September 29; Sat. February 16, and Sat. March 22.
The registration deadline is seven days prior to the event. For more information, contact: Office of Recruitment &

Alabama A & M University will host its annual high school senior day program on Saturday, November 3, 2007,
beginning at 7:30 a.m., in conjunction with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). If you are
interested in attending, please see Ms. Davis in the counseling office.
Armstrong Atlantic State University will host campus preview days on October 20, February 2, and April 5. You can
register to attend these preview days at www.es.armstrong.edu/admissions/openhouse.htm.
Dartmouth College will be visiting the Atlanta area on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Powell Goldstein,
LLP; One Atlantic Center, 14th Floor, 1201 West Peachtree Street, NW; Atlanta, GA.
The Office of Admissions at Fort Valley State University will host its annual Fall Preview Days on Saturday, September
29 and October 27, 2007. The program will be held from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. You may make your reservations for this

A representative from Georgia Perimeter College will be here on October 10, 2007 during all lunch periods to speak to

Georgia Southern University will hold its open house days on November 17, February 2, and April 5. GSU

New York University will be holding several admissions receptions throughout the country. Visit

The director of cadet admissions at North Georgia College & State University is inviting high school juniors and seniors
and their parents who are interested in attending North Georgia and participating in the Army ROTC Program/Corps of
Cadets to a presentation on the Clarkston campus of Georgia Perimeter College in the Learning Resource Center Lecture
Hall (CL-1100). The one-hour presentation will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. For additional

SCHOLARSHIP TIPS
As you search for scholarships, which usually entails some online searching, be certain to avoid some very common
scholarship scams. Some scam warning signs are: (1) you have to pay a fee, (2) money-back guarantee, (3) credit
card/bank account information required, (4) offers exclusive information. Scholarship searches are free, but it requires
you to spend some time and to do some searching! Try these websites:

HOPE SCHOLARSHIP
There are several steps that you must follow to apply for the HOPE Scholarship. Those steps include the following: (1) the general
form to complete is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which becomes available in January 2007 or, if applicable
the HOPE Application. These forms are available at all eligible public and private Georgia colleges, public technical colleges, and
most high schools. Remember, you must use the FAFSA rather than the HOPE Application or e-HOPE if you are applying for federal
student aid, such as the need based Pell Grant, or student loans. Some institutions still may require you to complete a FAFSA form if
you are receiving any other scholarships. All HOPE applicants attending private colleges or universities must complete the Georgia
Tuition Equalization Grant Application. You can access the e-TEG online application at www.gsfc.org. Furthermore, some
institutions also require the student to complete the school’s financial aid application. Contact the financial aid office at the school
you plan to attend for a student financial aid packet. Your final un-weighted GPA will determine if you are eligible to receive the
HOPE scholarship. The final HOPE scholar list is usually available at the end of June 2008. The Georgia Student Finance
Commission is responsible for determining HOPE eligible applicants. The schools no longer determine HOPE eligibility. For

ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS
If you want to be considered for athletic scholarships, you must be registered with the NCAA Clearinghouse. You may
register on-line at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. Click on “Prospective Student-Athletes” from the home page, which will
link you to the necessary information. Print off both forms and bring one copy to the counseling center.
ANY SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS TO CONGRATULATE?
I know that some of you are receiving scholarship offers already…let us know and we will send you a “shout out” in the senior
newsletter. Let’s get a little class spirit going and celebrate your accomplishments! You don’t need to accept every scholarship, but if
you have been offered an award, you can certainly be proud of the honor associated with being selected. Drop by Ms. Davis’s office
to share your accomplishments. Don’t be shy….gloat a little and maybe your friends will try harder to get their piece of the
scholarship pie!!!! Also, if you have been accepted to any college/university or you have joined a branch of the military, please take a
moment to let us know in the counseling office. We will need a copy of the official acceptance or scholarship award letter. We would
love to share your accomplishments!!!!!!!

AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP: The AXA Achievement Scholarship is awarding $670,000 to AXA Achievers. Are you
an AXA Achiever? To qualify, you must demonstrate: (1) Ambition and drive, (2) determination to set and reach goals, (3) respect
for self, family, and community, and (4) the ability to succeed in college. Go to www.axa-achievement.com to learn more about the
scholarship program. Download an application. Read the inspiring stories of some AXA Achievers. Apply by December 15, 2007.
COCA-COLA SCHOLARS: If you are a truly motivated, dedicated, involved high school senior, the Coca-Cola Scholars
Foundation is awarding $3 million a year in scholarships to 250 deserving students just like you. Apply online today. A few minutes
of your time could help get you through college and beyond. The deadline to receive completed applications is October 31, 2007. For

CONSTITUTIONAL OFFICER’S ASSC. OF GA (COAG): Any Georgia high school senior who is a U.S. citizen graduating in
the spring of 2008 is eligible to apply for a 2008 COAG Scholarship. The criteria for the award includes: (1) presenting a letter of
acceptance from a school of accredited higher education within GA (4-year, 2-year, or technical college); (2) presenting a copy of
their application to provide verification of degree field related to government/law enforcement; (3) submit a 1,000 word essay; and (4)
presenting a COAG scholarship application. A COAG scholarship application may be downloaded from www.coag.info. All
applications must be postmarked or hand delivered no later than March 21, 2008 or they will be deemed ineligible.
GEORGIA FIREFIGHTER’S BURN FOUNDATION: The Georgia Firefighter’s Burn Foundation is now offering a scholarship
to burn survivors here in Georgia. The details of the scholarship are as follows: (1) applicant must be a survivor of a severe burn
injury and spent a minimum of seven days in a burn unit, (2) applicant must be a legal Georgia resident for at least one year or have
attended Camp Oo-U-La, (3) applicant must be between the ages of 16 and 26 and must currently be a high school senior, have earned
a GED or high school diploma, or currently be enrolled in a university, college, or technical college, (4) applicant must have
demonstrated academic achievement as shown by grades and standardized test scores or must demonstrate ability in a trade or craft,
and (5) applicant must be accepted to an accredited university, college, or technical college. For additional information visit

GEORGIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: There are several scholarship opportunities
available for students who are interested in attending GA Southern University.
 Southern Scholars Showcase: An opportunity for students to interview for valuable academic scholarships, including the
1906 Scholars Program (the highest tier of the University Honors Program). The application deadline is November 5. The
requirements are 1300 SAT (Critical Reading & Math)/29 ACT and a strong grade point average.
 Scholar’s Day: For students interested in competing for academic scholarships and/or entrance into the University Honors
Program. The application deadline is February 1. The requirements are 1200 SAT (Critical Reading & Math)/27 ACT and a
strong grade point average.
 Leadership Conference: For students interested in competing for leadership scholarships. The application deadline is
February 1. The requirements are 1100 SAT (Critical Reading & Math)/24 ACT and a strong grade point average.

OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL CONTEST: This essay contest is open to all college-bound
high school seniors. The essay must be original. The essay topic is “What is the number one issue that would make the biggest
difference in the lives of black people and if you were President, how would you address it?” The deadline to submit the essay is
