Distribute blank paper for brain storming. The students will write what they know about the endocrine system, without using any resources. Where are the endocrine glands? Distribute butcher paper to each group of students. Students will trace someone in each group on the butcher paper. Using text book as a resource, have students draw the endocrine glands on the image. Do not put any words on the image. Lead the discussion to determine what students already know about the endocrine system. Correct any misconceptions. Note: Save the posters for use later in this objective. Structures of the Endocrine System Distribute the handout. Present PowerPoint Presentation, slides # 1-13. Facilitate discussion by asking students what they already know about the endocrine structures as the slides are presented. Correct any misconceptions. 7240 Health Science I RELEVANCY TO OBJECTIVE RESOURCES Students will REMEMBER. (A1) the structures of the endocrine system. Markers Students will REMEMBER. Flash Cards Distribute the paper for flash cards. Students will make flash cards with the names of the endocrine structures. Students will use the flash cards to label the endocrine glands on the previously traced image. Using one of the groups’ body images and set of flash cards, teacher should call on students at random and ask them to place the name of the gland on the image. Discuss the location of the gland and correct misconceptions. Simon Says Teacher leads by saying “Simon says. .” asking students to put their hands on a particular gland’s location (ie “put your hand on your thymus etc.). Discuss the location of the gland and correct misconceptions. Medical Terminology Distribute the handout. Review the terms with the students. Use the handout as a resource when discussing functions of the endocrine system and as a study tool. 4.04 Understand the 7240 Health Science I Students will REMEMBER. Students should be given an assignment to complete to facilitate learning. Note: This could be an assignment from the materials provided or as provided by the teacher.) Review and return these materials to students prior to beginning the next objective. All items have been written to match the cognitive process of the remember verb in the objective. Questions require students to recall terms or words related to job seeking and keeping. These exact questions will not be used on the secured test, but questions in similar formats will be used. These assessment items may be used as prototypes by teachers and students to generate similar items to comprise formative assessments for you classroom. This strategy is especially helpful during the field test year when classroom item banks are not available. Results of formative assessment should be used to diagnose levels of mastery, determine if re-teaching is needed, and guide further instruction. 1.
