E. Entry Visa and Resident Certificate (ARC)
1. Please apply for “Resident Visa” for entering Taiwan before leaving for Taiwan. If you are a
student of Language Center transferring to a degree program, please change your status from
“Visitor Visa” to “Resident Visa”, and renew your present Resident Certificate (ARC). See
more details at http://www.boca.gov.tw/
2. Please submit your ARC application materials, along with NTD 2000 fee, to OIA staff
within 7 days after arriving in Taiwan.
3. ARC Extension: The ARC expires after one year of its application. Please submit the
extension materials, along with the NTD 1000 fee, 3 days after the school starts to OIA staff,
or go apply at the National Immigration Agency (NIA) on your own.
F. Tuition and Other Required Fees, Accommodation Fees, Insurance Premiums,
Possible Miscellaneous Fees and Tuition Calculation
I-Shou University adopts the semester system, enrolling students (including transfer students) of
fall and spring semesters. There is no course offered during summer vacations. However, some
summer courses are available for students to register when enough students sign up to the course
after surveying, and the fees will be charged individually based on the University’s announcement.
The 2014 Fall Semester begins on September 15th, 2014 and ends after the final exam in January,
2015. Students who enroll for the spring semester of 2015 will join the class with fall semester
students of 2014 without having separate courses offered.
ISU scholarship recipients should note that if the scholarship is awarded for one academic year,
it will be divided into two equal portions to be granted in two semesters, and the payment will be
received from the first enrollment semester. The scholarship will be canceled according to the
regulations if the recipient drops out or has been suspended for any reason.

$3,800 per month (July and August).
Remarks:
(a) Bedding (pillows, mattress, summer quilts, etc.) can be bought from suppliers at the dormitory
management office when you move in. The price range is between NT$1,200~NT$1,500.
(b) The dormitory will be able to deliver the housing items to students during the office hours from 8
am to 6 pm. For those who check in the dormitory after office hours, the dormitory management
office will provide free blankets for temporary use.
(c) Please hand in the housing check-in form to the dormitory administrator on duty when arrival at
ISU.

(d) All the scholarship recipients have to stay in the dormitory for the 1st year. Otherwise,
scholarships will be canceled according to the policy

going home during the summer vacation, students must pay attention
to the total days of the trip (not to exceed 30 days) in order to be
eligible to apply for the National Health Insurance program.
2. From the 2015 spring semester, students who are ineligible for the
National Health Insurance program should pay the Health Insurance
premiums according to the regulations.
3. The National Health Insurance premiums will be charged from the
2015 spring semester for a period of 6 months. The monthly premium
is about $749 and the total amount for one semester is about $4,494.
Remarks:
The University may collect the insurance premiums along with the tuition of the 2014 fall semester
and apply for the insurance for students. Please refer to the website for more details on the National
Health Insurance (http://www.nhi.gov.tw/english/index.aspx).

G. Scholarship, Work Permit and Service Education
1. Scholarship
(a) The total amount of scholarship per year will be divided by two and granted in two
respective semesters.
(b) All scholarship recipients are required to live on campus during the first year studying at
ISU, and participate in OIA organized activities. Scholarship will not be granted if you
decide not to live in the dormitory.
(c) The exemption of Tuition and Other Required Fees, Language Lab Fee, Computer Lab
Fee, Student Accident Insurance Premiums, and Health Insurance Premiums will be
automatically conducted. If your billing shows a balance, please pay upon registration. If
there is any remaining amount of money from your scholarship, it will be refunded to
you.
(d) Graduate Programs:
 If you are granted with 1st year scholarship only, you are not qualified to apply for the
International Student Scholarship from the second year on.
 For those who are granted two years or three years scholarship, you shall receive the
scholarship only when you complete your first academic year with an 85-point GPA.
The score on moral conduct shall be above 80 with no violation of ISU regulations
and policies.
(e) Undergraduate Programs:Scholarship recipients are responsible for re-applying the
scholarship from the second year on. Applicants MUST meet the following criteria:
 You must enroll as a 16-credit-hour full time student. GPAs of the previous academic
year must be top 20% in the class.
 Your score on moral conduct shall be above 80 with no violation of ISU regulations
and policies.
(f) Time and Dates for Scholarship Re-application:Students who enrolled in the fall
semester MUST re-apply through OIA in the first week of June; those who enrolled in
the spring semester MUST re-apply in the last week of December.
(g) The scholarship will be revoked if the recipient:
 fails to complete registration for the semester when scholarship is awarded;
 retains enrollment eligibility for later;
 or transfers to another university.
(h) The scholarship recipient will be requested to return the full amount of scholarship
awarded if he/she drops out or has been suspended from ISU for any reason.

(i) Scholarship will be discontinued for a student who returns to ISU after semester(s)- long
hiatus, or with moral conduct score less than 80, or with records of violating ISU
regulations and policies.

2. Work Permit
International students who wish to work in Taiwan (either on campus or off campus) are
required to apply for and obtain a work permit before starting a job. International students are
qualified to apply for work permit after registration. OIA will assist qualified students with
the application of work permit. Please note that if you hold a job without applying for a work
permit, you may be fined for NT$30,000 to NT$150,000. Please mind your own safety when
considering a job.
3. Service Education
Service education is a compulsory course and required for all the ISU students either native or
foreign students. Students have to take it for two semesters to graduate. Students should
report to Office of Student Affairs on the first floor of Administration Building at the
first week of semester to check the meeting points and the periods they have to do the
service. Students should meet up at the meeting points with the team leaders who will let
them know what to do.

I.
Course Registration
1. Students are expected to take 16-25 credits at the first three academic years. Students
enrolled at the School of Chinese Medicine for Post Baccalaureate may take 16-28 credits in
each semester. For graduate students, the maximum is 16 credits.
2. When students enter the information system of ISU, they will notice all required courses
for the 1st year students are already added. Please do not make any change.
3. For selective courses, please refer to the following instruction:
 The log-in ID and password are the same as those of a student’s ISU webmail. Please
change password after signing in for the 1st time. (ID and Password will be notified before
school starts.)

Airport Pick-up Services

(a) You are advised to arrive at I-Shou University (ISU) between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, from
September 9th (Tue.) to September 10th (Wed.), 2014. If you cannot arrive at ISU
during the above time, please also notify us so that your housing could be arranged
accordingly.
(b) Airport Pick-Up Services are only available from September 9th (Tue.) to 10th (Wed.),
2014. Other than these dates, please come to ISU on your own. Taxis and public
transportations are available at the Kaohsiung International Airport and Taiwan High
Speed Rail Zuoying Station (please refer to Appendix 3).
(c) Meeting Points (please refer to Appendix 3):
(1)Kaohsiung International Airport: Arrival Lobby. You shall see OIA Volunteers with
yellow jacket and welcome sign.

K. Currency Exchange and SIM Card Application
1.
It is recommended that you exchange New Taiwan Dollars (NTD) in the banks at the airport.
Or you can exchange currency at the E-Da Mall service counter located on Zone A. Please
notice that the rates might be different from the banks.
2.
After obtaining your ARC or ROC Uniform ID No., you can open a savings account in the
post office on campus.
The post office only accept NTD cash. No foreign currencies
accepted.
3.
ISU provides temporary safe deposit box before you open a savings account.
4.
You may also withdraw cash from ATM machines on campus or near campus with your credit
cards or ATM cards.

Accommodation
ISU dormitories are fully equipped. Access is monitored and controlled by security guards. Fees
are subjected to minor adjustments yearly or bi-yearly.
 Environment
1.
Dormitory 1:Facilities include recreation area, laundry room, periodical room, study room,
indoor exercise room, and coin-operated laundry machines and dryers. Each room has
internet access and air conditioner, in addition to the basic necessities. Four students share
one room of approximately 288 sq. ft. (total number of beds for male students: 1616; for
female students: 1756)

Dormitory 3:Facilities include large common indoor area for reading, small-group
gathering, and meeting visitors;. Each room has internet access and air conditioner, in

 Dormitory Allotment
Foreign students who apply for on-campus living are given priority.
 Dormitory Management
1.
Student dormitory management regulations are enumerated at the website of the Office of
Student Affairs.
2.
Male and female dormitories are physically separated and have separate entrances. Services
are provided by the personnel who include an administrator, security guards and work-study
students.
3.
Male students are not allowed to enter female students’ dormitories or floors. Female
students cannot enter male students’ dormitories or floors, either. Students who break
the rules will be punished.
4.
The curfew period is from 23:30 to 06:00. Students who plan to stay overnight outside or
come back late must formally notify the administrator in advance.
 Apartment Rental:
Some apartments or rooms are available for rent in nearby residential communities. Students
with off-campus living in mind should pay close attention to the terms specified in the contract
before signing, particularly with regard to (a) reasonableness of rent, (b) length of rental period, (c)
amount of deposit, (d) time and method of payment, (e) penalties for contract violation, (f) options to
extend rental period. Personal identification document(s) of the landlord should be examined and
recorded, preferably with the help of an accompanying Taiwanese friend.

1, go to Platform 5 for E-Da Bus, which costs about NT$50-70. And the ride is about 30

II. Flights to Taoyuan International Airport (TPE):
Ideally, you should fly to Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH). However, if you are unable to
do so, please follow the information below to get to ISU:

Step 1:Arrive at Taoyan International Airport→ THSR Taoyuan Station
When arriving at the airport, please take the shuttle bus to THSR Taoyuan Station. There is a
bus stop outside Terminal 1(B1) and Terminal 2(1F) respectively. It takes about 15 minutes to
travel from the airport to THSR Taoyuan Station. The fare is NT$30 per person.

Step 2:THSR Taoyuan Station → THSR Zuoying Station
It takes about 90 minutes to travel from Taoyuan to Zuoying. The fare is approximately $1,500
per person.

Step 3:THSR Zuoying Station →ISU main campus or Yan Chao campus
1. By Taxi:The fare is about NT$500.
2. By Bus:Take E-Da Bus (Route 8501) (Route RED 52) to main or Yan Chao campus, which
cost about NT$50-70. And the ride is about 30 minutes. Please refer to above instructions.

[Appendix 4] Housing Regulations (Summarized)
1.
During their stay at the dormitory, residents are banned from exchanging or transferring the
dorm vacancy with others or moving into other dorm rooms unless with prior consent from the
University. Violators will be punished in accordance with relevant regulations and rules.
2.
Residents shall check dormitory properties and supplies distributed to them after moving in and
before moving out. They are held liable for compensation in case of any damage to or loss of
dormitory properties.
3.
Residents shall clean the dormitory area under the guidance and supervision of dormitory cadre
members. Those who refuse to do the cleaning will be punished in accordance with relevant
regulations and rules.
4.
Dormitory Curfews: Residents shall make registration or file an application at the dormitory
management office if they want to enter or leave the dormitory during dormitory curfews (11:30
p.m. ~ 06:00 a.m.). Those who refuse to do so will be banned from entering or leaving the
dormitory and punished in accordance with relevant regulations and rules.
5.
Nighttime Roll Call: Nighttime roll calls are made once or twice every month. Residents shall
file an application for leave of absence in advance if they want leave the dormitory or stay
elsewhere overnight.
6.
Those who miss the roll call and haven’t filed an application in advance will be punished in
accordance with relevant regulations and rules. Moreover, those who have missed the roll call
for three times within one semester or five times within one academic year will be disqualified
from reapplying for dormitory accommodation or drawing lots for dormitory vacancies for a
period of one year.
7.
Residents who have been registered as returning late for three times will be punished in
accordance with relevant regulations and rules. Moreover, those who have been registered as
returning late for six times within one semester will be disqualified from reapplying for
dormitory accommodation or drawing lots for dormitory vacancies for a period of one year.
8.
Meeting Guests: Residents are allowed to meet guests from 08:00 a.m. through 08:00 p.m.
Guests are required to complete due procedures before entering the dormitory.
9.
Residents must not bring guests of the opposite sex into the dormitory, enter areas where
residents of the opposite sex live, or allow non-residents, relatives or friends to stay overnight.
10. Dormitory Security: It is strictly prohibited to:
 use personal electrical appliances which may endanger fellow residents;

 keep illegal or dangerous substances, explosives, firecrackers or fireworks;
 smoke, drink, cook or gamble (including possessing mahjong tiles or other gambling
paraphernalia); and
 keep pets (such as cats, dogs, fishes, snakes, guinea pigs and lizards).
11. Residents who repeatedly violate relevant regulations and rules and show no sign of
improvement will receive severer punishment or even be evicted from the dormitory.
12. Dormitory Cleanliness: Residents who have failed the dormitory cleanliness inspection for three
times will be punished in accordance with relevant regulations and rules. Moreover, those who
show no sign of improvement after being notified or fail the recheck of the dormitory cleanness
competition will be banned from reapplying for dormitory accommodation.
13. Residents must dispose of waste according to relevant rules and must not place waste in public
spaces (such as hallways, bathrooms, stairways or drinking fountains) to create a healthy and
clean living environment. Those who show no sign of improvement after being reported or
exhorted will be punished in accordance with relevant regulations and rules. Repeated offenders
or those involved in a serious violation will be evicted from the dormitory, and at the same time
be banned from reapplying for dormitory accommodation or drawing lots for dormitory
vacancies.
14. Residents who are found to have violated any provision of the Housing Regulations or
dormitory-related rules will be punished depending on severity. Those involved in a serious
violation will be evicted from the dormitory or become disqualified from reapplying for
dormitory accommodation for the coming academic year.
 gambling or playing mahjong at the dormitory;
 bringing guests of the opposite sex into the dormitory without prior consent or
 sneaking into the dormitory where residents of the opposite sex live;
 transferring a dorm vacancy to a third party without prior consent;
 seriously violating government or university regulations regarding garbage disposal;
 having been found to commit theft, or be involved in activities which are illegal or
jeopardous to public security and order at the dormitory; or
 having received warnings and demerits which constitute one major demerit.
