Facilitator Availability
I am available from 12am-12pm Eastern Time Tuesday– Saturday, and I attempt to
reserve Sunday and Monday for my family. I ask that we first communicate by email
prior to a phone call as I have a hearing disorder, and look for ways to communicate
utilizing the Individual Forum as the first step. I tend to be online in the early mornings
during the week. If you have questions about your assignment please ask before the
weekend to ensure a reasonable amount of time for discussion.
For emergencies, when you are not able to gain access to messages on the Online
Learning System (OLS), please send a message to my personal email address. In the
event a third party needs to contact me, please direct them to my contact information
listed under "facilitator information." No third party should use your login credentials
to gain access to the classroom.
Where to Go to Class
Main: This is the main forum for the class and is where discussion is conducted. It has
read-and-write access for everyone. Please do not post new threads in the Main
Forum, instead reply to the correct topic threads. Here you will find your DQ’s and
information on Weekly Assignments. If you have questions about your assignments,
please ask in the weekly assignment forum.
Chat-Room: This is a read-and-write access forum. It is designed as a place to discuss
issues not related to the course content. This is the forum to which we will send our
bios.
Course-Materials: This is a read-only forum, which means you can read messages
here but cannot send any. This is where I will post all of your handouts to include course
syllabus and materials.
Individual Forum: You will see one forum with your name on it. This is a private forum,
shared only by you and me, the facilitator. Your classmates will not have access to this
forum. You can ask questions here. However, if you have general questions about

Feedback
Each week, I will provide grades or scores and comments on your assignments. If you
feel there is an error, a nice note to review the information will quickly be honored.
Grading Formula ~ Matrix ~ Rubric
Please note that when grading any writing, I am looking for the following components:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Is the paper at College Level?
Is there a strong topic sentence that connects all of the supporting facts?
Is the assignment written in Standard English formation?
Did you support your main point by connecting back to the text?
Did you follow the UoPX Style Guide?
It is my firm belief that college is about your commitment to succeed, and I want to help
you succeed. I do not give out grades, but rather facilitate a path for you to learn the
information on your own, and give you the opportunities to earn the maximum points
possible.

IMPORTANT!! Grades for all assignments are evaluated using the following
formula:
1. 50% Content: Are you formulating a thought based on what you read from the
text? Did you cite your text book to support your opinion?
2. 30% Organization: Did you follow the assignment directions? Does the
information follow acceptable college level standard to include 5 sentences per
paragraph: a topic sentence, supportive facts from the text to support your topic
sentence, and a conclusion?
3. 20% Mechanics: Was the University of Phoenix Associate Style Guide followed?
Is there a Title and Reference page?
**There is a 50% reduction in points if you do not post your assignment as requested in the
syllabus. For example, if the request is to post in the Main Forum, and you post in your
Assignment Forum, your points will be graded but reduced by 50%. The purpose of this policy is
to reflect the importance of reading and following direction in the work place.

***PowerPoint is considered a writing assignment.
All work submitted through the Assignment Forum must include a title page that
includes your name, the title pages authenticates the work belongs to solely to you,
information that cited as someone else’s work, or your own previous work must be
documented as a reference.
Late Policy: Assignments and Checkpoints are due the last day of the week (Sunday),
giving ample time for completion. Late papers receive a 10pt deduction for every hour
late. If you have questions on the assignment, be sure to post your question before
Friday of that week.
DQ/Participation Substantive Posts
Your DQ’s will count as part of your participation. The participation requirement for
University of Phoenix, Online Campus students is that you must post two substantive
notes in the Main forum on 4 different days during the week, for a total of 8 substantial
discussion notes. In this class you are required to support all these discussion notes
with facts from your text book. See below regarding the 5 sentence rule.
On occasion you may see marks to include a Green S, Blue?, and Red U. I DO NOT
use these marks to count your posts, rather to communicate when your attention is
needed for a correction, or I am impressed with something you said but am not replying.
These tool are only used to help as a guide.
It is your responsibility to ensure you count and keep track of how many posts you make
during the week.
During the week you must respond at least 4 times in the Discussion Thread in the Main
Forum: 4/7 days at a minimum. Those 4 days must include a total of 8 posts replying to
the following:


3 posts are direct substantive replies to any of the 5 DQ questions
5 posts are substantive replies to classmate’s posts
For your post (assignment too) to count, it MUST be substantive. Substantive in this
class means the post includes 5 sentences to represent your thoughts on the topic
using the following format – affectionately called the 5 SENTENCE RULE:
1. Introduction of topic (one sentence)
2. Main point (three sentences)

College of Social Sciences
PSY/202 / Foundations of Psychology
a. Statement of point
b. Your thoughts on point
c. One fact from the textbook with a citation *see In-Text example below
3. Conclusion (summing up the topic)
** I am looking to see what you are actively learning and thinking after you have read
the text. Please do not repeat what you read, or what the author thinks. **
Hint** All posts, even responses to your classmates must include an in-text citation
from your book to support your opinion and conclude with the below reference:
Feldman, R.S. (2010). Psychology and Your Life. [University of Phoenix Custom
Edition e-Text]. : McGraw Hill. Retrieved from University of Phoenix College, PSY
202-Foundations of Psychology website.
Please be sure to read the Main Forum and reply about the topic of Academic Integrity.
If you receive a Red U for unintentional or intentional plagiarism following your first
warning, you will receive 0 DQ/Participation points for the entire week and a notice filed
regarding the academic violation. On occasion, I will return a paper asking that you
correct the error, in that situation you are granted 24 hours before the assignment must
be returned with the correction.
As we are not in a classroom, the only method I have for evaluating what you are
actively learning is by you LINKING back to your text. Communicating by showing you
read the text will go a long way in this class.
Assignments
You will have weekly assignments due on Sundays. All assignment must include a title
and reference page. All questions in your assignments must include the following
elements:
1. Introduction of topic (one sentence)
2. Main point (three sentences)
a) Statement of point
b) Your thoughts on point
c) One fact from the textbook with a citation *see In-Text example below
3. Conclusion (summing up the topic)
In-Text Example:
When providing a text, let’s say as an example (Feldman, 2010), it would have looked
like what you saw in the parentheses. Consider taking the APA Workshop as this will
be a common requirement in your up and coming classes.

Questions and Personal Responsibility
All information for the weeks are posted on Sunday. If you are unsure about something
posted, please ask. I want to see you succeed, but if you do not ask specific questions I
cannot help guide you in the right direction. When asking a question, make sure you
have read the syllabus directions, the weekly post, and your text. If you are unsure on
how to format, organize, or struggle with technical issues, then I will encourage you to
take one of the valuable FREE University of Phoenix workshops, to assist in your
learning.
