Changes in the Practices of WWI and WWII Your group will choose one of the practices of war, and follow it through WWI and WWII. Your presentation will include three sections A – The practice in WWI B – The practice in WWII C – The nature of and reasons for the changes Topics include: The use of non-conventional weapons, ie. gas, nuclear Guns (Big and Small) Communication on and off the battlefield Propaganda at home and abroad War at Sea: Battleships,Convoys and submarines . Tanks War in the Air War on the Home front Espionage Role and contribution of women Role of minorities Specific types of warfare ie. trench, blitzkrieg Sections A (for WWI) and B (for WWII) should include: 1. A thematic timeline of the 10 most significant events that highlight your practice (divide into 10 slides with a visual, date and location for each) Be creative! (10 points) 2. A detailed description of the practice (or role) (5 points) 3. Focus on one specific battle or incident where your practice or role was crucial in the outcome. Include a few slides identifying the specifics and explaining how your practice or role affected the outcome. (5 points) Section C should include: 1. A short section on how the practice or role changed between WWI and WWII – the nature of the change.(5 marks) 2. Reasons why the changes took place – (cover several areas – possibly using something like the SPERM model) (5 marks) 3. What were the effects of the changes. Did they make a significant difference in the outcome of WWII? Did they affect the post WWII period? (5 marks) 4. Your group’s statement on the overall importance of the topic in the study of the wars. (5 marks) A detailed rubric will be provided after March Break.
