French Level 4
Course Description: The main objective of this course is to enhance the reading,
writing, listening and speaking skills of upper level students to prepare them for success
on the Advanced Placement Exam and college-level courses. French will be spoken
exclusively by the instructor and the students will be encouraged to speak French as
much as possible as well.

 Supplemental:
o Listening: Listen to a cassette/CD of music or speaking for dictation for 5
minutes on the first class of the week.
o Speaking: Students will look at pictures chosen by the teacher and will
describe in French what is occurring/has occurred in the picture once a
week.
o Reading: Outside reading assigned by teacher. Students will take a
comprehension test at the end of the 3 weeks.
o Writing: Students will write a composition using Inquiry-based Research
and Heuristic Procedures about a topic of the student’s choice to be due at
the end of the 9 Weeks grading period.
o Journal Entry to be written during the first 15 minutes of the first class of
the week focusing on research/thoughts/questions students encountered
during the break regarding the topic for their 9 Weeks Composition.

 Mini-conferences with individual students regarding the 9 Weeks Composition
each week.

o Listening: Listen to a cassette/CD of music or speaking for dictation for 5
minutes on the first class of the week.
o Speaking: Students will look at pictures chosen by the teacher and will
describe in French what is occurring/has occurred in the picture once a
week.
o Reading: Outside reading assigned by teacher. Students will take a
comprehension test at the end of the 3 weeks.
o Students will write an essay about a topic of the student’s choice to be due
at the end of the 9 Weeks. The essay will be at least one page in length,
skipping lines.
o Writing: Students will write a composition using Inquiry-based Research
and Heuristic Procedures about a topic of the student’s choice to be due at
the end of the 9 Weeks grading period.
o Journal Entry to be written during the first 15 minutes of the first class of
the week focusing on research/thoughts/questions students encountered
during the break regarding the topic for their 9 Weeks Composition.
