Sutherland (Ex Officio) Library IU Northwest Faculty Organization Library Committee IU Libraries Common Core Library Databases Resolution Statement December 2010 Given that: 1. Each year the IU Northwest Library Collections Development budget is constrained; 2. Increasingly more IU online credit courses will be created and offered to IU students across different campuses (making a core list of databases across campuses more crucial); 3. IU Libraries universitywide already have some Library database subscriptions in common and those held in common often have better pricing because these are multi-campus subscriptions; 4. One other IU universitywide unit, UITS, successfully site licenses software for the entire university; 5. Subscriptions on a larger universitywide scale will provide better pricing for Library databases; 6. IU Northwest Library is assessing user rates of current Library databases (for better cost efficiency); 7. IU Northwest Library assesses on an ongoing basis its subscriptions in an effort to eliminate duplication of fulltext journals 1) in print, 2) online, or 3) available via Library databases (for better cost efficiency); and 8. IU Northwest Library is investigating group subscriptions to fulltext journals (e.g. ScienceDirect) rather than title by title subscription (for better cost efficiency) Therefore the Fac. Org. Library Committee proposes that the IU Northwest Director of Library Services work with other IU Libraries universitywide to significantly increase the percentage of common core Library databases that are available on all IU campuses (including IU Northwest).
