You will still need to view the lectures to gain all relevant course information and class announcements. Other required activities that substitute for video instruction during the fourth hour may include any of the following elements: web activity, homework or quizzes. REQUIRED TEXTBOOK: Operations Management; Sustainability and Supply Chain Management with MyOMLab, 11/e, 2014, by Jay Heizer and Barry Render, Pearson: ISBN: 978-0-13-313076-8 or 978-0-133408027 w/CD. Either one will work. **Please see additional textbook information on Webcourses Modules Page** SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL: Supplemental material is frequently placed on Webcourses on the Modules page. CLASS COMMUNCATIONS: Email: Email me using only the email tool in Webcourses. This ensures that I will get your email and it will not end up in junk mail or flagged as spam. ***It is very, very, very important that you follow this procedure to send email. Pay particular attention to items 4, 5 and 6. You must check both of these boxes or you run the risk of not getting a reply to your email*** 1. Choose Inbox in the upper right-hand corner of the screen when you log into Webcourses. 2. Choose the New Message icon (a pencil in a gray box) to open a new message. 3. Click on the To: Box and choose MAR 3203 4. Check the box next to "All Teachers" in the To Window. 5. Type your message in the Message window and indicate if you are a regional or main campus student. (Do not forget to attach or type your work) 6. Check the box next to "This is a group conversation. Participants will see everyone's replies." 7. Choose Send." Discussion Boards: I would encourage you to use the discussion board on Webcourses to ask your fellow classmates questions. Discussion boards will be included in each module on the modules page. Many times your classmates will have the answers to your questions. They are a great resource. This is a great way to communicate with each other to ask for help, study together, or whatever else is relevant to class. You may find that you will find answers to your questions already posted on the discussion board, plus your question will help others who have the same question. Please do not use the discussion board as your personal sounding board. No one cares to hear your gripes. Ask questions and provide answers to posted questions, but leave the rest off of the discussion board. If your behavior warrants, you may be removed from further access to the discussion boards and our class on Webcourses. Three before me rule: The syllabus and FAQs posted on Webcourses, as well as the class discussion board for students located on Webcourses will answer more than 95% of the questions we typically receive. Before emailing us with your questions, I ask that you first make an attempt to find the answer on your own by eliciting help from three references or sources. In other words, try to find the answer from three sources before emailing us. If you have not watched the corresponding videos, read the syllabus, read the announcements, you should first check these sources before blasting off an email or discussion post. If you are still stuck and need additional help, by all means contact us (me and our TAs) via email or come by our offices during office hours. I kindly ask that you provide the three sources when emailing your question. If you ask questions that are clearly on this syllabus, it is doubtful that you will get a response. When you email a question regarding the class content, especially the quantitative work, you must send your work along with your email. We cannot help you unless you send your work along to us first. If you do not send your work to us first, there will be a delay in answering your question and we don't want to delay getting answers to you. Our next response to you will be, 'please send your work'. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: 1. Exams: Main Campus students must take all exams in the Orlando main campus testing center BA2-First Floor-Room 104. Regional campus students must take all of the exams at their respective regional campus testing centers. Main campus testing center rules/policy/test dates and seat availability can be viewed at http://www.bus.ucf.edu/testingcenter. Select Student from the left hand column for more information. Students must provide a valid UCF student ID to be admitted into the Testing Center. You will be allowed to use a basic or business calculator-don’t forget to bring one with you for every exam. Absolutely no programmable or graphing calculators will be allowed in the testing centers. You’ll need to bring your own formulas to the exam. You’ll be allowed to bring a 3x5 index card (front and back) to the exam for notes and/or formulas, whatever you think you’ll need. Anything that is discussed in class as well as all assigned work, and material in the assigned book chapters is fair game for the exam. Exam scores will be released the day after the close of each exam. After taking the exam, any questions you may have regarding the exam will be answered after the exam closes. Regional Campus Testing Lab Hours Check the website or call your respective regional testing center. Each has its own schedule. Regional Campus Testing Centers are closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For more information for regional campus testing, go to http://www.bus.ucf.edu/testingcenter. Select Student from the left hand column, then select Regional Campus Help. Regional Campus Test Dates and Times: Regional campus students still need to follow the same policies, dates and times for the exams as the Orlando Main Campus except for the following difference: you must schedule your exam well in advance with your respective testing center and you must complete the exam within the date and time range stated in the test schedule table below. The testing center availability to take the exams is dictated by the personnel at your respective campuses. It is imperative that you coordinate taking your exam with the test center personnel. Make-up exam policy: There will be no make-up exams, except for the two following exceptions. 1. Officially sanctioned University activities (e.g. band, debate, student government, intercollegiate athletics, etc.) or personal religious obligations. 2. A medical emergency with documentation from a medical provider. To qualify for make-up exams under the above stated exceptions, a student must provide a written request for an excused absence and verifiable documentation of the anticipated absence in advance of the close of the exam. Test Times and Dates: The tests must be submitted no later than the end date and time stated in the table below and you must be finished with the Exam by the closing time of the testing center. For regional students only, we offer online web conferencing in which to review exams. The TAs will hook you up with and instructions at the time you make an appointment with them. 2. Homework assignments: All assignments are completed through MyOMLab. See the full login directions from the Modules Page in Webcourses. You can login at www.pearsonmylabandmastering.com. The due dates for the assignments can be found in the course schedule below and in Webcourses and in MyOMLab. There is no time limit to complete the assignment once you start, they just have to be submitted by the due date and time. You’ll have two chances to complete each assignment. Each homework assignment is worth 80 points. Any late assignments will be docked 15% for every day it is late up to two days (48 hours from due date and time). After two days late, assignments won’t be accepted. Most assignment questions are quantitative with some qualitative questions coming from videos and articles. The videos and articles are found in MyOMLab. As you start to complete the assignment questions, click on the link to start the video or display the article. 3. Routinely Check Webcourses: Often I will submit additional or supporting information on Webcourses either before or after a class in an attempt to clarify or further apply what we’re talking about in class or in response to questions from students. 4. Fair Warning: Don’t rely solely on my PowerPoint slides for all of your worldly knowledge for preparing for tests. In most instances there isn’t enough information written on the slides for you to study from. Reviewing the class lectures, your notes, the assigned chapters and completing the homework, along with reviewing the slides is what I’d recommend that you study in preparation for the tests. Additionally, you will want to learn the material beyond the definition level, you will want to know how to apply the material in business situations. ATTENDANCE POLICY: Attendance and participation in class activities are considered integral parts of a university education. Attendance will not be part of your final grade; however attending class is highly encouraged. DISABILITY STATEMENTS: If you need accommodations in this course because of disability, if you have emergency medical information to share with me, or if you need special arrangements in case the building must be evacuated, please make me aware of this as soon as possible. ACADEMIC HONESTY: All work in this course must be completed in a manner consistent with UCF Policy. Many incidents of plagiarism result from students’ lack of understanding about what constitutes plagiarism. However, you are expected to familiarize yourself with UCF’s policy on plagiarism. All work you submit must be your own scholarly and creative efforts. Academic dishonesty can result in a lower grade and/or a failing grade for the course. UCF’s Golden Rule defines plagiarism as follows: “whereby another’s work is used or appropriated without any indication of the source, thereby attempting to convey the impression that such work is the student’s own.” More at: (http://www.fctl.ucf.edu/TeachingAndLearningResources/ClassroomManagement/AcademicInteg rity/PlagiarismStatement.php) My expectations regarding academic honesty and testing: 1. Since the exams are open for more than one day, if you tip-off, give clues or state what to watch out for about any part of the exam to your classmates, you can expect to receive a zero for your exam. GRADING: Your performance in this course will be evaluated based on your cumulative achievement, as indicated in the tables below. I do not curve grades or round up to the next letter grade if you are “close”. Check the class schedule below for all due dates. It is your responsibility to check every grade for accuracy once it is posted online in your Grades tab on Webcourses. Once the final exam closes, the class is over. As of June 21, 2013, 9:30pm EST there will not be any additional grade conversations, extra credit or assignments to better your grade, we won’t negotiate to give you a grade you didn’t earn and we will not check to see if your grades are correct at this point. You will have one week from when each of your homework grades is posted to inquire about any inaccuracies regarding your grade, same for Exam 1. Any questions or concerns regarding Exam 2 grading are to be communicated to me no later than June 21st by 9:30pm. Please do not email us after this date asking us to adjust or check your grade or ask what else you can do to better your grade. Inappropriate behavior is a distraction and shows a lack of respect for your classmates and your instructor. Please refrain from making rude, offensive, or disrespectful remarks either in class, via email or on discussion boards. In addition using laptops, cell phones, tablets or other electronic devices for non-class related uses is extremely rude and disrespectful.
