Huge crowds for weekend Cutting action as Futurity finalists determined
Hundreds of local, interstate and international spectators have gathered in Tamworth for the first weekend of the
2013 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Imax Gold Tamarang Futurity with the finalists of the Open
Futurity determined.
The second go-round of the prestigious Imax Gold and Tamarang Open Futurity wrapped up today with 135
riders taking to the arena with Todd Graham leading the charge into next Sunday’s 25 horse Final with three
horses in the top four.
Graham of Oakey, Queensland has finished on top of the leaderboard after two go-rounds on No Moore One
Moore.
Graham also finished the go-rounds as the second and fourth highest rider on First Timen Hell and Blinham Ellie
Again respectively.
Going into the Final with the third highest score was Lindsey Wheatley of Kaarimba, Victoria riding Dara TR
Cocoas Preview.
Wheatley, just one of three women qualifying for the Final, equalled the top score of the Futurity with a 146 point
run in the second go-round.
“It’s everyone’s dream to win the Futurity so it’s a really exciting time for me,” Wheatley said.
“I had some better cattle in my second run and after you get that first run under your belt you pick up a few
things,” Wheatley said.
The Open Futurity Final next Sunday will be Wheatley’s third appearance in the Final after qualifying on the halfsister of Dara TR Cocoas Preview in 2011.
“We’ve done really well on this bloodline and I’m competing on Reyving Reviews in the Non Pro Classic
Challenge, as well two horses in the Non Pro Futurity,” Wheatley said.
“Preparations for the Futurity on Dara TR Cocoas Preview have been solid and fairly easy for me. We’ve been to
lots of pre-works but she is a really smart and honest horse,” Wheatley said.
Wheatley is married to Australian professional cutting horse trainer Aaron Wheatley and moved to Australia three
and a half years ago.
Wheatley will be competing against husband Aaron who has qualified in fifth and sixth positions for the Futurity
Final on Yulgilbar Crystalandsweet and Reys N Hell respectively.
“Aaron and I are both very competitive. He helps me strive to be better and we’re always there to cheer eachother on,” Wheatley said.
The NCHA Imax Gold Tamarang Futurity continues tomorrow as the Non Professionals take to the arena for the
Non Pro Futurity and the Non Pro Classic Challenge.
Tickets for the event are available at the venue.
