Public Service Announcement
The Independent Electoral Commission is holding its first voter registration weekend on the 5th and 6th of March
2016. The voting stations will be open from 08:00 to 17:00 on both these days.

Any residents who have moved into the area in the last few years should register at a voting station close to
their home. Voting district and stations locations can be checked on the IEC website.
To find which voting district you live in and the allocated voting station please use the following:
You can check on http://maps.elections.org.za/vsfinder/, if you actual house address does not come up then
check the street you live in (make sure the suburb is correct) for the voting station you should register at and
the voting district that you live in.
The first registration weekends are the 5th and 6th of March at all the voting stations from 08:00-17:00. A
second weekend is planned for the 9th and 10th of April.
It is important to try and register or check you registration on any of these two weekends as the voters roll with
probably close soon afterwards.
You will have to attend in person and bring along your ID document (book or card) to verify that you are a
citizen and entitled to vote. A sticker will be placed in your ID book and a receipt issued for residents with new
ID cards.

In addition the IEC may ask residents to indicate on a map where they live to ascertain that they are in the
correct VD.
Appendix 2 is a request for the IEC to visit you at home and facilitate the registration- main use is for the infirm
or residents that are unable to attend the voting station physically – please contact the ward councillor for the
document if you require it.
You can check if you are registered or what your current voting station is by smsing your ID number to 32810,
downloading the IEC app – called the IEC South Africa
