PREPARATION FOR COLON SURGERY PM PROCEDURE TWO DAYS BEFORE SURGERY Clear liquid diet all day (starting at breakfast) – tea, broth, apple juice, Jell-O Take 3 Dulcolax tablets (BISACODYL 5 mg) in the afternoon (between 2-4 PM) followed by 3 large glasses of water. ONE DAY BEFORE SURGERY CONTINUE CLEAR LIQUID DIET Take one Micro-K 10 tablet morning, afternoon, and evening Drink one bottle of Citrate of Magnesia at 3 pm Take (4) Dulcolax tablets (BISACODYL DR 5 mg) with three glasses of water at 8 pm Take (1) Compazine 10mg tablet at 9 PM *Take (2) Neomycin 500 mg tablets (1 gram) at 10 pm *Take (2) Erythromycin base 500 mg tablets (1 gram) at 10 pm *Take (2) Neomycin 500 mg tablets (1 gram) at 11 pm *Take (2) Erythromycin base 500 mg tablets (1 gram) at 11 pm Nothing by mouth after 12 midnight except medications as directed PLEASE CALL IF YOUR STOOLS ARE NOT CLEARING DAY OF SURGERY Nothing by mouth except medications as directed TAKE YOUR USUAL MEDICATIONS WITH A SIP OF WATER Take (1) 10mg tablet of Compazine at 6 AM *Take (2) Neomycin 500 mg tablets (1 gram) at 7 am *Take (2) Erythromycin base 500 mg tablets (1 gram) at 7am Take 1 saline Fleet enema rectally one hour before leaving home Arrive Hoag Hospital 3 HRS BEFORE SURGERY *When taking Neomycin and Erythromycin, take 1 pill every 5 to 10 minutes. Do not take all the pills at the same time. **Please remember do not take any aspirin or Ibuprofen type medication (Motrin, Aleve, Nuprin, Advil, Naprosyn, etc.) 10 days prior to your procedure.
