4th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CHILDHOOD AND EDUCATION: A VIEW FROM THE PAST hosted by The University of Nottingham and the Municipality of Sparti 17th -19th September 2010 Venue: The Central Public Library of Sparti, Greece ‘A rattle is suitable for children in their infancy and education is a rattle for older children’ (Aristotle Pol. 8.1340b26) The Fourth Annual Conference of the Society will bring together scholars from diverse disciplines to discuss childhood and education in the past. We call for a majority of papers on recent research on any aspect of childhood in the past as well as on the specific topic of the education of children in the past. Papers on girls’ education, immigrants’ education, the education of slave children and education in medieval times are particularly welcome. A session will be devoted to Spartan and ancient Greek education. The official language of the Conference is English.
