Winter Festival Celebration

(Winter Festivals Around the World)
On Tuesday, December 22, we will be having a
Winter Festival celebration in class from 2:30 3:45pm. There will be crafts, games and a
special snack set up at tables around the room
supervised by parent volunteers. There are still
a few items we need for the party. If you are
interested in donating supplies or volunteering
at the party, please go to the Volunteer Spot

Look What We’re Learning!
Reading: We will begin our unit on winter
festivals around the world. This week, we will
“visit” the Netherlands for St Nicholas Day,
Sweden for St Lucy’s Day, India for Diwali, and
Senegal for Ramadan. Each day, we will create a
new page for our Winter Festival books that
students will take home for break.
Math: We will practice addition, compare
numbers, play number card games, level items on
a balance, and explore probability.
Language: We will be making a list of French
words that start with Ii.
Writing: We will work on finding I in texts,
naming & drawing Ii words, and writing Ii.
Social Studies: We will explore maps and globes
and talk about different countries and customs.

Winter Holiday “Travel” Schedule
During our winter festival unit, we will be
pretending to go to a country each day and
study a holidays celebrated there. Here is our
“travel” schedule in case you are interested:

Winter Wear for Recess
Please remember to send children to school
dressed in winter outdoor clothes. Also, please
LABEL snow pants and boots. Lastly, please have
your child practice getting their winter gear on
independently at home. A little practice at home
goes a long way at school! Merci!
