PRACTICAL – An Archaeological Dig Incursion
Students to do a dig with Archaeologists and recover items
of interest and record them on a site map.
They are to make a list of the objects found and make
observations on site.
In class, discuss findings. Students to use fieldwork notes
to speculate as to how old objects are , why they were
there and how they were used. Students to write up an
evaluation of their findings and Observations

Read “Life in the Roman Army” pg 78 – 79 SOSE Alive 1. Students are to
construct an A3 poster on The Roman Army. They need to describe the
structure, uniform, weapons and training of the army soldiers. This webpage

Students to read pg 86 – 87 SOSE Alive 1 “Daily Life in Ancient Rome”
and complete activities.
Watch documentary “Meet the Romans: Streetlife” available on Click View
and have students make notes in their workbooks.
Students to write a diary entry imagining they lived in Ancient Rome.
Divide class into groups so different social classes – patrician, plebeian,
slave, soldier and different ages and genders. Students to make a good copy
on a scroll by rolling up paper and attaching it to a stick. This website is a
